A couple things I've noticed when chaining:
-When starting a brand new chain, walking into any type of grass is perfectly fine(except the ones with no pokemon) When you do find a pokemon you want, then you want to only walk into the violently shaking grass.
-You also don't want to go into grass that is shaking more violently than your second patch. I had my chain broken multiple times for going into stronger shaking grass. You want to stick with the same sound and movement.
-Also, there is a chance that you will find your pokemon in the wrong kind of grass, but that is pure luck.
-Lastly, there will never be shiny grass before you find your first pokemon in a chain, but there still is a 1 in 4000 chance of encountering one.
I found most of this out before while chaining for an Eevee. I got lucky and found one randomly when starting a brand new chain without the shiny grass.
Thanks for the video Justin, this helped me get multiple chains of 20, but I still need practice.
Pokeradar chaining: The few times you'll ever get excited about fucking _grass_. ;)
Lmao
I hate the Pokeradar. It's so hard to actually chain with, but apart from that it has the greatest range and speed. But it's so god damn hard and I hate it arrrrgh
I would agree, but I've mastered it
Its frustrating I'll give you that
Thunder Squeak For me its easy I got 3 shinies
yea I don't like it either its hard I always find the wrong pkmn before the 5th pkmn in the chain
No it is soooooooo easy
Does anyone else think the tall grass in X and Y looks like pot?
Yes XD!!
Yessss it does !!!!!!!! 🌿
This video helps me A LOT!! The difference between shaking grasses and the sound of the grasses were things I had some doubts, but now I kinda get it! You replaying it really helped. Thanks!
I've been breaking chains for the last week attempting to get a shiny Furfrou. You just debunked a bunch of rumors I was following (not leaving the grass, not going to the vigorously shaking patch beside me, etc). After watching this, I am forever grateful. I had NO clue about the music ... I did know it sped up if there was a shiny Pokémon, but I didn't know the sped up music could occur prior to a 40 chain. Thank you thank you thank you!!! Wish me luck! :o)
I haven't watched your content in a while and I was on TH-cam today when I found this video and I was like hey I wonder if he got 25k subs yet; I look at your subs and I see 65k subs... I don't even know what to say atm other then a huge Congratz
I was chaning for a shiny Zoruark, I saw a shiny patch of grass, got too exited and ran into a patch that said "Hm, There don't seem to be any Pokemon around" I was pissed. xD
Niki Minay omg itts niki minay.
Josh McDonnell if i was you i would of broke my 3ds
Son Gotenks xD
Josh McDonnell no joke
Son Gotenks xD again
I miss this man
What happened to him?
This is my brother's Shiny count in Pokémon Y:
Wonder Trade:0
Random Encounter: 1
PokéRadar: 0
Chain Fishing: 1
Wireless Trade: 0
Total: 2 (Trapinch and Skrelp)
This is MY Shiny Count in Pokémon X:
Wonder Trade: 1
Random Encounter: 2
PokéRadar: 0
Chain Fishing: 0
Wireless Trade: 1
Total: 3 (Wobbuffet, Diggersby, Swampert and Zangoose)
Diggersby was a Bunnelby and Swampert was a Mudkip
Thanks Justin. This definitely answered a lot of the questions I had about chaining.
I am so glad someone explained the purpose of the music. I had gotten fast music on a flabebe chain really early into the chain. I had not ever heard it and was caught off guard so I reset the radar to pay more attention to the grass. After the reset I got the shiny grass. Twice in a row! One orange flower and one white. Now I know why I had good luck. Thank you for explaining this. :)
The wearing headphones to listen to the grass is 1,000,000 times more important than I thought it was! Thanks so much! My chains are finally working out!
Now I just found a shiny scatterbug, and while I was chaining pikachu, I broke my chain to find a different shiny pokemon that I caught a few days before.
Thank you for making this tutorial! I suck at this and really needed the help! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I found a shiny Croagunk after a chain of 40 thanks to your tutorial.
I found out that it seems more likely to get fast music after several attempts. I've been trying to get Skiddo for a while now and I broke my chain a lot of times. I got the fast music 3(!) times within a chain of 8.
I only watch your tutorial videos so keep them coming.
I was just watching this video while I set out to chain... before my chain even started, didn't get a shiny patch and walked into a random shake which had a shiny Skiddo!!!! so happy and cheers heaps for the help learning this method.. i'm new sub but I always try to watch your streams when they're on. Thanks again man :)
This explains so much I didn't know before, thank you so much! May finally give Chaining another go in X
I can't even get my chain pass 5. I always go into the grass that shakes the most and end up breaking the chain with some damned amoongus.
Been hunting for a shiny zoroark for ages...hell I haven't even seen one shiny the entire time I've been playing XY and I usually see at least one or two in every game
Dunno maybe the rules are different for the tall grass in pokemon village.
I never do that, besides the grass in the pokemon village is huge enough that I never even come close to an edge at any time.
Got my chain to 40...and the shiny grass was surrounded by killzone grass and on the edge of the patch.... It's official the devil is responsible for making the pokeradar.
funnily enough when i got to pokemon villiage i found a shiny zoroark without even trying, i went crazy flipping out xD
To get my shinys I use the horde method is soooo much easier
I only hunt for shinys I want, I'm not a collector like most people. So the horde shinies are worthless to me.
Tutorial videos are good, thx for doing them
Best advanced tutorial yet! Answered all my questions & my doubts! Keep going with those tutorials bro!!
Thanks so much for the tutorial. I actually just tried out chaining today and on my second grass shake, I got the sparkles for my shiny Liepard. :D So lucky! Again, thanks so much for the tutorial!
Tried out the radar for the first time, failed my chain about 4 times then got on a chain of three and fast music went on. Got a fast music scatterBug!
for grass noise comparison:
9:11 = good
9:37 = bad
Update: Go figure! I try out your tips in the patch of grass on route 2 (chaining Scatterbug) and I go into what I think is a patch of grass to continue my chain. Wrong!......... but I was shocked to find, instead, a shiny Fletching. Grass didn't sparkle either. Wild! Still no luck with Furfrou in the purple flowers, I keep breaking the chain at about 25 or so by encountering Skiddo. Man do I ever hate those things about now.... >.
To me, the good grass shake sounds faster than the bad grass shake but it could just be me.
You are the best person for pokemon tips thank you!!! 😙
Hey sup :)
Finding this video just made me go on a 4 hour shiny hunt on route 2. I broke my chain at 30 after going in a violent patch close to me, so I followed the four step rule. Just found my first shiny via the chain method. :)
Fantastic guide, I tried using pokeradar for the first time as I was used in dexnav and horde encounters in ORAS. I have broken multiple chains but after a few more attempts I was able to get a hang of it. I caught a shiny skiddo on a chain of 37. You are right, it is the happiest feeling ever. 😄😀😄
Hey Justin great work with these tutorials, helped me alot already, also nice band you got there! Been following for some weeks and its really nice! GL w/ everything!
@james HL pabon Fast music only means that the chain increased the chance of finding a shiny during that moment ,it does not mean that there is a shiny when the up beat music plays.
I have gotten a shiny but I no longer own it. It was a shiny trapinch and I had no clue what this green thing was. I gave it to my friend because it looked weird. A week later she shows me her shiny Flygon.
I'm crying for you.
I'm so bad at Shiny Chaining. I can never get past 10 without breaking the chain. It usually ends around 6. SERIOUSLY WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! IT'S MAKING ME SO MAD!!!
You're not alone.
I managed at least past 40, but I never found a shiny before it broke. TT^TT
There's not really a trick to it except that SERIOUS concentration is involved, and even then it's still hard (it's easier in hordes though, but it's different pokemon.). :
Why did you go past 40?? You only need forty then you're garaunteed a shiny, just reset your radar untill you get shiny grass
jamesrocks9060 Lol, I never got a shiny patch until I ran out of max repels (and met a furfrou instead of a skiddo). xD
well i lost 5 fast musics so...
Hey Justin. With the Chaining method so far I've caught a lv.48 shiny Ditto, lv.5 shiny Skiddo and lv.4 shiny Furfrou. There is something else that I find helps a lot. First is to know what you are trying to chain and get a poke that is super effective against it. Then narrow those types down to those who are at least lv.30. After that look at the moveset and see which moves have a PP of 20 therefore when you go into battle, by using one PP from the move with 20 each time, it works as a counter for your chain. So after the 20PP has depleted, you know your on a chain of 20 and you use a max PP restore. Oh, thanks for all the epic vids
Don't waste PP items just use a Leppa Berry or O-Power
It doesn't make a difference for me as I can easily go and find them by using Rock Smash in Ambrette Town and Route 8
Jordan Kelly But this way you don't have to take that time lol
Emily Zou Yeah I know but this way I can also make money by collecting and selling rare items and slightly boost shiny encounters as there are only two pokemon that can appear instead of Route 5s 6+
Adding on to the previous comment, in half an hour I once made around 50,000 PokeDollars, collected 15 Max Ethers and all this was done whilst watching 'The Big Bang Theory' on E4
I caught a shiny Miltank with the Radar in X a while ago, and am currently trying to get a Liepard in Y. This video is helping me so far, thank you!
This video really helped me get a shiny! When I got mine, I didn’t even see the patch that shook because it was at the corner of my screen and I noticed that the sparkle is a patch below where the shiny is at so I went to the patch at the corner and it was shiny!
Thank you, Justin!
I recently just got into shiny hunting and was just PokèRadaring without a clue what to do. :)
This was very helpful! Shiny Zoroark here I come! xx
Thanks mate ! I never understood this huntingmethod, but you explained it very nice and helpful. You got my thumbs up. Thanks !
Another good tip about chaining is regarding the pokemon killer (lol). I always use Greninja or Doublade because they can learn quite a lot of tm moves and whenever I'm done with pps I can just reteach them (and not use leppa berries for example) aaand cool thing about Doublade is that it is ghost type meaning that most recoil moves won't ruin your 1 hp pokemon after the false swipe! Hope this helps ;)
I found a shiny Amoongas last night on a 5 chain. Thank you based JFlynn.
I got a golett on a 3 chain on my first try of pokeradar.
It's a great feeling, isn't it? When you see the shiny grass and your heart jumps.
358thorn i wasnt even looking lawl i just saw that grass that shook and im like oh cool :D
Dood, I found a shiny ralts without even trying, I walked into grass and found it lawlcatz
I once fond two random shinies on one day. One was a Throh and the other was my 2nd shiny Growlithe.
Just started to radar chain a few days ago never ever done it before. Just found a shiny psyduck :) thank you Jflynn!
This is really helpful! I've just gotten my Pokeradar on X and am currently trying to work out how exactly it works through experience/messing up. I know not to expect results soon, but I can't help but hope.
I did!! I was just starting a chain. It was for a different Pokémon for the first chain but I had no idea that the grass I went into to continue my chain- it was a shiny jigglypuff!!! It was my first wild shiny capture and my second Pokémon chain that I was just trying out!
I ended up catching a shiny slowpoke today because of you!!! :D
I ended up getting the fast music 3 times too.
I'm mostly having a problem when I'm trying to chain Pokemon I'm always running into pacthes of grass that almost violently shaking and I always encounter a different pokemon and it's driving nuts! Help me out please!
Okay i'll try that out soon. Thanks :)
+cypress cat really....? They never say that.
Jerry Peters I
This video helped me out so much. I have been chaining for about a week without any luck. After seeing your video, though, I managed to find a shiny Skiddo after chaining for about 45 minutes. Thanks!
YESH I HAVE BEEN WAITIN ILY
thanks a lot for this tutorial. I caught my first shiny in Pokemon X on Route 7. its really cute Swirlix. awe. Big thumbs up
Thanks a Million JFlynn! Just chained to a shiny Slowpoke. My first ever shiny with the Pokeradar.
I have a question. Is there a different process when chaining in a patch of flowers? It seems harder to tell between which patch I should go into.
I wasn't chaining at the time, mainly because i was in Victory Road, but in Soul Silver i stumbled across a Shiny Graveler, I think I set a new world record for the fastest time to get to the quickball option in my bag.
I once found a wild ponyta in pokemon diamond while getting off the bus from school.I shouted at my friend way up ahead and she came booking it to where a was.And I was not even looking for a shiny that day.
Thank you so much this video helped me get a shiny Eevee in 7 chains after using the Mesuda method for 2 years. I know this is an old video so Flynn probably wont see this, but I wanted to thank him anyway because this means so much to me.
I envy you so much...
Took me five days to chain a shiny Eevee.
awesome I never knew about the sound of grass thing, thanks man!
watched vid for 10 mins got to a chain of 22 (i rushed it xD) got shiny skiddo chain broke at 28 because i rushed it i went into all the corners and close ones which by theorys "Break it" but it didnt for me till 28 aka my highest chain because im insanely unlucky and unpatient. my best shiny is 7 chain shellos aka my first also ive caught 3 REs 2 pokeradar the res i didtn hunt tho
do you think it would be possible for you to make a grass shaking compilation? like do 5 snippets of each type of grass based on sounds. I'm having a lot of trouble being able to tell the difference between the hardest shaking grass noise and the almost hardest shaking grass noise. Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was extremely helpful! Also thank you for making the compilation video if you do decide to make it. :)
I love your tutorials Justin !! You have my support fully !
Hi Flynn, I really appreciate your video and this is very Helpfull, but I have a question for you: When are you chaining with Pokeradar and Find the shiny Pokemon, if you continue the chain, if it's not broken, could you find another Shiny?
I'm really struggling to see the fastest shaking in the flowers, I'll hear the rustling crispy sound but I often can't see which one is shaking the fastest. Is it at all possible you could either show off the rustling in the flowers or link to a video that shows it really well? Thanks for the guide, I'm getting a bit better at the chaining but I'm still breaking a LOT.
Cool! (Cartman's voice) Thanks bro!
Looking forward to today's shoiny hunt
I remember when you the dark lord chatot appeared shiny, it was so funny yet ironic too! :D
I've caught a shiny riolu on route 22 on a chain of 40! Thanks Justin :D
you have a really good commentator voice and you speak really well.
Omg i just got a shiny relicanth from ur video man i love how u explain everything man ur the best man keep up the good work
Never tried to chain before, probably gonna fail, but I need to try! Wish me luck.
amazing vid helped me find 3 shinies :D luv your streams justing XD
Sinnoh Gym Battle 8: Ash vs Volkner
when its good grass you can actually hear what sounds like mario using his fluffy tail, its feint but its there in every single good grass shake he says
This video help so much! I was able to nab a shiny Pikachu for my first radar shiny. :D
Thanks for the video,I'm chaining at the moment for altaria shiny xD thinks for the crisp grass talk lolz.
Thanks man you da real MVP. I never tried Pokéradar, followed your tips, put on headphones, failed 6 times and then wadaya know shiny Skiddo after EXACTLEY 40 chains. Brave nature though =/
THANK YOU, gotta go check IVS now
Edit: max IV in Sp. Def, so I got that going for me, wich is nice.
"by choke someone I mean bunnelby. By bunnelby I mean I would never hurt a pokemon" ROFL!
ikr?
and I NEVER got a SINGLE shiny from pokeradar chaining
The only successful 40 chains I've had were Starly in Diamond and Slowpoke in Y. I lost Starly when I ran out of 120 repels, but shiny Slowpoke is the only radar chained Pokemon I've ever gotten. Shiny mega Slowbro is a beast.
Thanks for this video Justin ,I'm having a hard time hunting like this ,gonna use this to train myself :)
Thanks for your help! You helped me get my first shiny!! 😁😁😁
There are few rumors on what's the right grass to walk into: 1) The most shaking one as presented in this video; 2) the furthest grass shaking; 3) The grass that's shaking the same way as the previous grass you walked into... I'm getting confused now. :/ Can someone tell me what's the best of these 3?
1 question though how many eggs did it take you to get shiny eevee justin?
Justin! I love your tutorials. D:
Hey, thejustinflynn!!! I don't know if you know this, but I got to shiny hunting right after I beat the champion and I learned something neat! You know how the legendary birds can be found roaming while you're just wandering through the grass? Well, in the middle of my chain, Zapdos popped up. I was so mad! But after he fled, the music kept going, and I was able to reset my radar and keep my chain going!
tl;dr, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres appearing in the middle of your chain WILL NOT break the chain!!!
hope this was useful information
I've been looking forward to this!
oh snap this is so helpful :D i might go chain something awesome for myself soonish :3
This tutorial is awesome and so is your band!
quick question does the shiny charm affect chaining?
I love tutorial videos!
it works but another way to hear the grass better is to be in a quiet room in your house and turn the volume up all the way
Congrats Justin! Because you are the only popular Pokemon Tuber to finally bring us this video!!!! You rock, people are going to love you even, HARDER, for this video. Rock on, and thank you. There is a reason you look like Jesus ; )
Did I mention you are the, ONLY, person to finally have this specific video that I've seen people ask for hundreds, of times? lol
You look like a very metal version of Seth Green. I like it.
dude this is awesome helped out sooo much i was lucky to find a shiney in the first 10 chains
Found a Shiny Scatterbug with this help! Thank you Justin
I recommend this Tutorial so much!
Not bad.
I chained a lot back in 4th Gen on Diamond, thanks for demystifying some of the stuff people assume carried over from 4th to 6th Gen (I for one was only stepping into shaking patches that were 4 patches away from me in Y, now I know I don't have to).
I wanted to ask you something though, I love chaining on Diamond because once you got a chain of 40, you can reset your chain for shiny patches and get 4 or 5 shinies out of it (might as well if it takes you 2 hours to get to 40, right?), so then you can trade your spared on the GTS.
I tried to do the same when I chained for Bunnelby on route 5 but after I caught my shiny Bunnelby with my chain of 40, I must have reset my chain 200+ times and no other shiny patches appeared.
How come?
Does your chain gets knocked off by a particular amount when you catch a shiny?
Have you managed to get more than 1 shiny out of a chain?
I'd like to know.
I was well impressed by your knowledge, you're a true shiny hunter m8, keep it coming :)
Im pretty sure it only works for the one. Justin has never stayed to get more than one in the way you explained and he chains a lot so he's good, so im guessing no. Sorry if its true.... Bu it still works on diamond.:)
This one time, I maxed out the Shiny chance for Pikachu at Chain 40 in Santalune Forest, but then broke it with a Weedle. But just when I was about to leave, a Shiny Pikachu ran up to me in a random encounter, and I caught her. She even had a Light Ball!
Spirit Energy is Very Key to finding the Shiny, regardless of the chain order.
sometimes it is what it is.
So, correct me if i'm wrong, chaining means you need to stick to 1 pokemon, the more you encounter that pokemon the higher the chance to find that certain pokemon shiny and only the viciously shaking grass contains that pokemon. the chain is not broken by resetting the radar, nor stepping out of the grass. is that right?
Thanks, I was using the Poke radar for less than a half hour and already found a shiny Skiddo 😁
OMG... last night I started, got as high as 20-ish chain on Tauros and then 20-ish on Miltank. Decided to try again now. Pinsir at the same spot on the first try! Wooo! And I break the chain after 1, 'cause joystick. brb imma tear that sucker right off.
I can't do radar no matter how much I try. I'm lucky to get 3-5 chains. I have patients for fishing and everything else. but when it comes to that thing I go crazy.
:(
If you're hunting for rarer Pokémon (like Ralts, who has a 5% chance of appearing) it will take a lot longer to get your chain up to 40. You can try chaining more common Pokémon and getting used to hunting for the right grass.
Also, I have a much easier time chaining in flowers, so that could help too.
EpicLolz53704 no I just try it out to start A chain....
Very helpful! Thanks for the tutorial.
This definitely helped me to get a higher chain but still not getting higher than 15 ;x I was lucky with my 1 chain shiny Croagunk
