Yes. So glad you got to this one. We all knew you would love it when we requested it. You are so right. It moves and gets you moving from start to finish. I caught it over 50 years ago and hope they never find a cure. Great lyrics and singing, but the piano makes the song of course. Give Secret Agent Man a listen when you get back around to Johnny.
FYI: piano on this track was played by the late, great Larry Knechtel, who played with the famous Wrecking Crew musicians, played piano on Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, and was a member of the group Bread.
In 1970, Larry Knecht won a Grammy Award for his piano work on "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel. He also played the piano on Johnny Rivers' 1972 hit "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu".
Cool; hadn’t heard this one in years!👍👍. He was big in the 60s and continued thru the 70s; he did a lot of covers later on. Agree with other’s suggesting “Secret Agent Man”; from 1964, the first song I remember by Johnny Rivers!❤❤❤❤
Jay & Amber, thanks for reacting to this song!!!! This is a go-to 'feel good' song for me!!! Originally recorded by the songwriter Huey "Piano" Smith !! Backing Johnny on this song was the legendary Wrecking Crew, with Larry Knechtel on piano,
You should react to "Summer Rain". About 20 years ago, I saw Johnny Rivers at an outdoor show in Boston. It rained during the show driving many people away. I stayed and met Rivers after the show and told him that was quite a summer rain. He said, "Ha Ha!!!"
If you haven’t been on a steaming dance floor with a bunch of well dressed dancers all jiving and singing along to this, well you just haven’t lived ✌️
LOL. I remember "shaking my tail feathers" to this one. I was 9 years old when this came out. And along these same lines you should check out Johnny Rivers - Sea Cruise (1973) - great piano and horns. There were many covers of this song but this is the one I remember most from around the same time as Rockin Pnuemonia & Boogie Woogie Flu.
That was Larry Knechtelon playing the piano. He was a member of the famous session musician group, The Wrecking Crew. I knew Jay would love the piano on this one. It's one of the best rocking boogie piano parts ever put to tape!
This is a very fun piano bluesy song! On the flip side of the coin, you should check out his late 70's romantic ballad, "Swayin' To The Music (Slow Dancin')."
Johnny was born in NY. His parents moved to Baton Rouge when he was a teenager where he picked up that Louisiana musical style that's so prevalent in this song.
Hey Y'all, I was just starting my teen yrs and loved busting a rug to this one on my box 45 record player. Great memories, Thanx so much, stay groovy, Peace
If there's award for best arrangement in a song, this one deserves it most. I learned to play the piano as a child thanks to hearing this song and getting the ambition.
The man made the transition from 60's soulful rocker to 70's hitmaker, while keeping true to his roots. For the last of his big hits, "Slow Dancin" is next.

I was looking for this comment - Johnny Rivers was ok but frankly mostly did covers and of lots of less well-known black artists. In any case, that's where the bluesy influence is coming from - it was there in the original!
I just what you all to know that I appreciate what you do. You don't cater to any one type of music. You are open to the music, the sound, the passion of music. New or old fast or slow, country rock, pop, hip hop, soul, blues, jazz. You appreciate it all and I thank you for that.
Johnny Rivers has so many great songs it’s impossible to choose what to listen to. His Last Train to Memphis CD from 1998 was amazing. I saw him about 7 years ago and he still sounded great.
Slow Dancin, Swayin to the music
Love that one!
Yes!
You need to hear him sing "Summer Rain."
A perfect song that exemplifies the decade of the 60s.
My favorite!
@@wendydouglas425 Yes! A beautiful song that we wore out the .45 playing!
My favorite also is a beautiful beautiful song. You have to do some rain
@@donalddixon6541 I still have it on my Spotify playlist.

For the longest, I thought it was "secret ASIAN man!"
@@sallyphillips9175 😂
@@sallyphillips9175 you're not the only one, I've heard people say that before. That would be an interesting concept.
Devo does a great version of Secret Agent Man. Hombre Secreto by the Plugz too
Yes! I'm Filipino, so that is my theme song😂
You really must listen to "Secret Agent Man" and "High On a Mountain of Love" by him.
Amber would melt over his song "Slow Dancin"
Amber, you'll be happy to know that the piano player in this, Larry Knechtel, was also one of the members of Bread.
Also more famously came up with the piano part for Bridge Over Troubled Water. Extremely talented musician.

It's a crime that Johnny Rivers isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Summer Rain is my favorite.
" Secret Agent Man " is another good one by Johnny.
They played it on the radio in the 70s all the time😮. Man music kicked some butt back then.😎
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOME LOL ALOT Best 10 years EVER
FYI: piano on this track was played by the late, great Larry Knechtel, who played with the famous Wrecking Crew musicians, played piano on Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, and was a member of the group Bread.
7th Son is another great " feel good" song by Johnny, big top 10 hit!
In 1970, Larry Knecht won a Grammy Award for his piano work on "Bridge over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel. He also played the piano on Johnny Rivers' 1972 hit "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu".

Johnny Rivers is probably the single most underrated talent of the entire Rock era.
100% agree!!
Agreed 💯! Johnny is THE MAN!
One of my all time faves!!! This is one bug I don't want a cure for...😂😘😘❤️
That just reminded me of Robert Palmer’s “Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)”. It doesn’t look like they’ve reacted to that one.
Nope, NEVER want the cure for
Johnny Rivers was fantastic! I'd also recommend, 'Secret Agent Man's, 'Seventh Son ', and 'Mountain of Love's... For the next reaction! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Guys!!!!! I’ve been requesting this for your love of piano since like a year ago! I’m here for it!😂❤ You definitely made me smile today 😊
This is one of my favorite songs specifically because of the piano. It just makes me so happy.
He was great but never got the acclaim he deserved. Try "Summer Rain", "Memphis", "Seventh Son"
excellent! back to my teens....just going into my senior year!
An absolute bangin' boogie woogie jam. Cheers....
Johnny was born in NY. His parents moved to Baton Rouge when he was a teenager where he picked up that Louisiana musical style that's so prevalent in this song.

Johnny is a great one!
Love when you two hit the 60s and 70s. Some of the best music ever produced.
When i was in Memphis i couldn't stop thinking about Johnny and Elvis.

I love this song so much! I challenge anyone to sit still and not smile while listening to this song. It can't be done.
Now this is what's called "Rock & Roll" take a lesson children !!!!..Johnny was a real treat to listen to even to this day !!!
That brings me back! So right, that piano will make any rock n roller smile, even at a funeral. :)

70's music is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! I feel privileged to have grown up in that time period because of the music!! Great reactions!

I didn’t know this was Johnny Rivers! Awesome!
Really enjoy seeing you two react and experience "new" music together! Makes me wonder if this is how I reacted the first time I heard this.
Awesome. This used to play allot on the radio.
I drove my parents crazy wearing this 45 out! Peace, Love!!
Thanks for playing this! My dad’s favorite artist. I hadn’t heard Johnny Rivers in 30+ years. I’m going to play it for my 7 year old son.
Seventh Son
