  • At 5h pm yesterday, a flight from Orlando to Toronto required the assistance of the airport's fire department for an emergency landing at Pearson International Airport YYZ. An Airbus A319 from Air Canada's Rouge affiliate brand flying to Toronto from Orlando, Florida experienced landing gear issues and declared an emergency. As per normal procedure, the airport's fire department was dispatched to standby at two ends of runway 23 to assist in case of malfunction or a worst case scenario. Numerous apparatuses among them two Roseanbauer Panther airport crash tender trucks were spotted travelling on the taxiway with emergency lights on towards their awaiting positions on the north side in the middle and at the end of runway. Flight number AC1673 with registration C-GBIJ was seen operating in circles prior to touchdown and made its final approach in hazy humid low-visibility weather conditions. No injuries were reported and the airplane was escorted by fire trucks that followed behind all the way to the hub's gates. After further inspection of the video footage and an alert from a viewer, it appears the plane landed while faulty landing doors hatch remained open.

Nice catch, and more importantly it's great to hear that they landed safely. I'm surprised to see these planes still fly in the Air Canada Rouge livery seeing how the company was planning to retire all the A319s in their fleet.

Awesome catch! May I feature this landing in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!

Was this shot from the apartment buildings at the northeast corner of Goreway and Derry?

It Would Appear That The Main Landing Gear Doors Remained Open When The Crew Dropped The Landing Gear To Land. Could Have Been Bad If It Was A Windy Day. Great Job Pilots .

Omg I just noticed that! How close could these doors have been from the ground upon touch down?

Excellent footage. I wonder why it had to make an emergency landing. Have a great day 😀

All doors are down due it being a manual gear down overide, normally due to hydraulic failure or a landing gear selector valve problem, there is no option to close doors after a manual drop of gear.

Is this from your apt balcony? LOL just kidding, do they still film/video/photograph the planes taking off and landing. Ive been in this exact situation except the motor blew and they kept shutting both down and trying to restart. Had no idea how serious it was until we landed and all of the emergency response teams were there. memories lol

What made this an emergency? Is the landing gear door supposed to close after the wheels are down?

Yes, look at how little clearance there is with the doors open under the belly. A hard touchdown would have struck the doors.

Surely with the landing gear down the doors would be open, so this is just a normal landing.

Nope, the doors have special holes that allow the hydraulics to fit through when the gear is out

With few exceptions, the landing gear doors retract as soon as the landing gear is fully extended. If they had landed normally, and bounced the landing, the doors would have undoubtedly struck the runway.

They lost a hydraulic system would be my guess
