Reate makes a better gravity utility knife. The lock is where your thumb would be, so you don't have to flip it around to unlock it. Plus, better gravity sounds(the clink and clank)
Not sure if it’s normal I emailed pichi but I’ve noticed when the blade is deployed it’s got a bit of play to it and wiggles some is this common? Or normal? First gravity style blade
I’ve been really interested in buying one of these but I really don’t understand how it’s not illegal here in Canada due to basically being a gravity knife. Maybe that’s why they ship from New York to avoid crossing the boarder and getting them confiscated one by one.
@@ChrispyThings yeah totally illegal. Makes me sad lol I almost want to order this little utility knife and see if it comes in the mail or if the cops "confiscate" it at the boarder. Balisongs, OTFS, gravity knives and basically anything that can open with a smooth action I’d considered illegal here. Some cops may let certain things slide but some are real jerks about it
@@vicpetrishak7705 yep, and they rust like crazy :( in this "modern time" we are still using the same utility knife blades are grand fathers used. I have no problems sharpening a utility knife blade that does not rust the same as I have no problems sharpening a pocket knife blade that does rust. But think of it does your shaving razor blade rust? NO, why? Tell me again we don't have the technology. As with everything it comes down to money, the more you spend the more they make. Even the Lutz blades rust, a box of 100 for 335.00 USD :(
I've wondered this too. Just spit-balling: Maybe folks are not willing to pay the extra cost, since blades are so cheap and can be replaced it they break, dull or rust. I sharpen if they are not broken, so I would pay a bit more for stainless blades, but I know for a fact I am in a very small minority. Here is a tip for us one-percenters - run your blade across a charged buffing wheel before you install it. The compound is wax based and will leave a good coat of wax that protects the enclosed part of the blade from rust.
I can see that. For me personally I’ve never had any issues with my gravity knives. I’ve had more issues with folders that have tri-ad locks. I’m so used to one handed closing that when I do it with a tri-ad lock, it cuts me more often than I’d like to admit 😂
@@georgelin8498 You're probably right. The lock helps to keep it from unlocking your pocket. I don't have a gravity knife, so my experience with them is nonexistent.
Great looking piece. I emailed their support, and it looks like they ship from Canada. Considering the stricter knife laws in Canada, has anybody successfully received their knife from the preorder (for those who live in the US)?
It’s still classified as a utility knife. But its functions like a gravity knife. If you get caught with it in your state, it’d be up to the officer. Too risky.
Ooof if you forget to lock it, it will most likely open in your pocket. But it’s almost a reflex for me at this point. Take it out, unlock, cut, lock and put it in the sheath.
I use ceramic blades in my utility knives so this magnet feature sucks. This is a no go. Also, why make such a slim knife with a bulky sheath. Just put a pocket clip on it. It sucks
@@ChrispyThings for an everyday carry utility knife at that price, with the holster and the materials used thats not bad. But a utility knife is only as good as the blade. I'd like to see a high end blade. Got any recommendations? For example my edc is a Gerber utility folder and the blade that came with it is thicker than any replacement I've come across. Better tip retention too. At $89 for the knife and $116 for the knife and holster, that makes the holster $27. Could easily go for $49. I'd pay 50 bucks easy for my 110 buck knife holster of the same build quality. And be happy 😂
As someone who lives out of the US. I ordered in Feb, the tool didn’t show up till late August after the May shipment failed somehow. I emailed regarding the failed shipment, they told me that they would try again. I put in a special request to which they replied and acknowledged. When the tool arrived my request was adhered to. When it came time to insert a blade, the blade holder would not fit a blade in it. It took some time with a tiny file to ensure a blade would fit in it. If that was going to be Pichi designs build quality, I figured they might be snowed under with complaints right now. My email detailing the issue has gone unanswered.
A fancy box cutter
Yes that’s one thing it can cut 👍🏻
For only $139. That dumb digital caliper is _cheaper_ than this -knife- blade holder!
Just got mine today. Pre-ordered in Feb. Really cool, feels great in hand and addicting.
Pre-ordered mine a few weeks ago, this has me excited for it to ship. Thanks for the vid! Looks nice!
You won’t be disappointed here. This is one of my favorites for everyday
Oh nice i live in hamburg new york. Niagra falls is like 40 minutes from me. I ordered this two months ago. Cant wait to get it
I think that's pretty sick... great design. Very clean and also functional.
with a custom leather lanyard , would be awesome
Definitely
I got mine. Worth every penny.

Yes I’m aware of the Reate EXO U. I own one and have a video coming out about these new style utility knives soon
Does this have an optional pocket clip?

I hear u i saw where u have a cortex xl. I wondered how close the lamia was to the real thing as its one of the best knives i own fake or not.

Are gravity knives illegal in Canada?
They used to be illegal here in NY but was overturned a few years ago

I wish someone made stainless steel blades for knives like this.
High carbon steel utility blades have better blade retention sharpness .

Is there ceramic utility blades ?
@@montanaplease yes there is but there are very brittle and very dangerous. I think of them as a glass blade, because they act like one.

I thunk there’s a greater probability of accidents happening with gravity knives. But, I’m clumsy, so maybe that only applies to me.🤷♂️

Should be safer since your hand in not in the path of the moving blade.

Can you lock it in the "blade out" position?
Blade out position?
Do you mean can the blade be locked when it’s deployed? Yes of course!
Next time please watch the video. Cool? Cool.
@@ChrispyThings I did watch the video. Once deployed can it be locked into that position. You didn't show if that was possible.
I showed it a few times actually. I showed that there are 2 locking positions when deployed.

They’re based in Canada, but they ship to a distributor in Niagara Falls NY.
The package is then shipped to you from NY
Please what kinda caliper is that?

What is the slide mechanism? I can't imagine it having enough weight to not get stuck. You'd probably have to keep it pretty clean.
Ya that's too small. I'd go with the reate EXO-U when it comes out.
Looking forward to that
Plus the Exo-U is cheaper.
It's out now
So...is this considered a gravity knife then? In Minnesota those are illegal along with balisongs and switchblades and all manner of scary knife.

The lock being all the way in the back seems really inconvenient for use

Hawk makes one that’s $475 and can’t keep them in stock so at $89 it’s smaller ,lighter and faster than a Hawk
