Where arts and science meet: Ainissa Ramirez at TEDxBroadway

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Thanks for this and will share with my students in Joe Berg Seminars (I'm also a huge 321 Contact fan). I remember they had us draw scientists in gifted class and everyone drew mad, white men. I regretted not going with my instinct to draw a woman AND make her black--it was the first time I was victim to social norms and my artistic vision was a truer gauge. I'm an alum of Joe Berg and now direct it--it's a place where kids become inspired with what they can do with art and STEM. They started as project-based clubs in the late 50s, led by local STEM professionals. There were over 700 in the 80s. Our chapter in Jacksonville, FL is one of 3 that remain--and the ONLY one that formed a Humanities side (in 62). I believe having Humanities kept our chapter alive (non-profit, donations based). We're now making a shift to combining. They will LOVE your video. (and as an artist I learned about using gold for red glass and as a base color before gilding--I guessed what it's nanocolor would be from art background)

Those social norms are deeply ingrained in all of us. There is no guessing when they will turn up, however, I am glad that you are so self-aware that you are creating new space for the next generation. (And, yes, red glass probably has nano-gold in it.) All best,...

Just saw this from AIP This is awesome and important. I went to school as a physics teaching major and left because of fear and anxiety. I also have a passion for physical therapy.
