    6 years later I come across this really good video. After having my spark plugs replaced twice in a week and cables and then ignition coil, all fuel injectors and thermostat (another issue) the truck is still running rough. I am going to test this myself because it seems my local mechanics are not very good

    Thanks for the lesson. Spraying brake kleen on the vacuum lines of a customer car may not be the best idea but for my stuff sure. This helped me gain understanding of the theory so thank you

    Engine that idling up and down
    is a bad idle control valve that was in my case put a new idle control valve and it's not idling up and down anymore.. but it can be caused by other issues too.

    Very detailed , good stuff .. iv got a vq30dd nissan and its idle is more like vibrating the motor during low revs , as revs pickup it goes away but still feels sluggish. Floored the car and symptoms went away . Now after doing an intake cleaner test (spray past maf ) cars GDI and is reccomended to clean valves. Now problem is back , floored it againt to see if that helps but its still running rough down low , almost like its down a cylinder . Not too sure where to go from here . Iv got general knowledge mechanically but im left scratchn my head.

      Tyson Cross ~ utilize a vacuum gauge by taping in to vacuum source. Your watching that gauge for rapid fluctuation which is an indication that you have a valve train issue that could be causing that symptom. Give that a try ~ hope that helps ! ~Frank

    Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, oxygen sensor test, transmission codes, ABS, SRS, and MORE! Get a USB cable to update it. Get 4 aaa batteries for under the rear cover. EBAY has it.

    I am a disabled vet with a 2006 scion xa set up for my disability . Right now the cigarette lighter does not work . If I plug in something to it the radio goes off but when I unplug it the radio comes back and it does not lose stations. I replaced the fuse and the cigarette lighter and have tried different things in the port to see if its just 1 or 2 causing the problem I am a backyard mechanix as I was taught that in the NAVY . So I am lost also money is tight so I hope to fix it myself

    I made a awesome smoke machine for $5 which is by far the best method of locating vacuum leaks...

      roadstar499 how’d you make it?

  • @Pedro-qm1of
    @Pedro-qm1of 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think you could also buy a pipe tobacco cigar, you smoke it and then you exhale the air on one of the vacuum lines preferably near on the engine cabin air filter and with some luck you may find it on the first try. Ps Smoking kills but one smoke has never kill anyone.

      The combustion might leave residue like you'd find inside of a pipe or in the filter of a cig
      cigarette...or the goop in your lungs.

    In my country spark plugs and dirty throttle with dirty MAF sensor usually causes problems like that. And believe it or not but had never seen a smoke machine around here by myself)))

    if there is no leak as you have just found, does stale engine oil can cause the same engine sound, i mean the sound up and down during idle.

    I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado classic 4.3L. When it's in drive at a stop light the engine starts to vibrate. When it's warmed up, and 15-20 minutes of driving, the symptoms go away. I've cleaned the throttle body, and that helped very little. The transmission shifts perfect, no problem there. Any thoughts as to what this might be?? Thank you, love the vids!

    Hi. I recently encountered a problem with my car . My car is a 2003 peugot 1.4 manual trasmission . The problem comes as you put the car on first gear run a little bit then you press the clutch .... If you release the cluth without shifting to a higher gear itll jerk .... It happens on every gear but on the heavier gears it gives you a harder reaction. What dou think it could be...

    • @larrygingerich2585
      @larrygingerich2585 ปีที่แล้ว

      The clutch is slipping. It can actually go something like this; slip- jerk - jerk and then go, or even a bit more of that etc.

    Thanks for the vid! Can a bad pcv valve cause overheating? My cars been overheating only when sitting idle for a few minutes and if you start driving it cools down. I figured they were seperate issues but just curious as to if that could cause it. Lucky me had to order the valve so I'm still waiting to replace it.

      Same exact problem on my 5.7. So far I've replaced the IAC and MAP to no avail. Gonna try looking for air leaks when the rain stops.
      Did you find the issue?

    Obvious vacuum leak in the intake manifold gasket (s) somewhere. Of course, your typical mechanic will want to replace plugs, wires, injectors etc because there's money in that.

      Dick B. ~or they may not want to introduce a new symptom & a comeback by reinstalling aged parts that have to be removed as a part of the repair procedure.

    common sense... check hoses for any that are cracked or collapsed or damaged in some way .... and replace them. A 'mobile mechanic' if available, can do it better and faster than you and it is likely a 1-time process.
