That hotel has been a victim of Handyman Special. It is quite clear that most of the renovations done were by someone who knows very little about what it is he is doing (such as the raceway at the beginning, specifically where it turns a corner). The blue jacuzzi tub probably went with a really sporty looking blue toilet. It should also be worth noting that those switches next to the shower *are not* waterproof, back when they built bathrooms and such space was not a premium so while it was probably not acceptable, most electricians did it anyways. I am sure the handyman wizard had to take the switches out at some point and forgot how to wire them back up so he attached it in any way that it worked.
@William Stonehocker most of the few hotels that still have them are either upscale couples resorts or only have them in a few suites. Hotel bathtub cleanliness tends to vary a lot so people might not want to use a tub at a 1 or 2 star place.
@William Stonehocker opinions still vary. Me, my parents and a family friend stayed at a deluxe cottage rental in Prince Edward Island that had a tub with jets, but none of us used it. I find myself and most other adults still don't even bathe much at home anyway.
great review, honest, highlighting the shortcomings (bathroom area) as well as the things they have done right (bedding). for under $100 a night, its all relative, one cant expect 1000 thread count egyptian linens and a butler service for this price. i think the things that one could expect is a decent bed, as this is probably the most important aspect of the budget traveller, and anything else is a bonus. im not sure if you have considered the la quinta inns and suites chain. its quite good for the money. around $100 a night for substantially better room than rodeway inn and free breakfast.
I haven't seen a clean hotel room of that era since...well, that era. It has the issues you'd expect of any old building. I could handle staying at this place, with the exception of the towel, which would have been a problem. Well worth the ≤$100 price.
I looked up this review because I recently stayed at a different Rodeway Inn, and wondered what your take might be on one. My experience, too, was of a rate so low it was hard not to give the place a shot, but a hotel that was clearly "economy" class, with some corners cut to make that low rate possible. Such hotels fill a valuable niche; not everybody who needs a room for the night can blow a hundred or more bucks for it, and a decent, if basic, hotel or motel fills the bill. But if you're used to a notch or two above that level, it can be kind of disappointing.
I've stayed at a few hotels rooms like that in my travels. The way I look at it I'm not spending much time in the room anyway cause I'm usually out and about during the day and I'm usually only in the hotel room at night and as long as the bed is comfortable and the ac/heater works and the tv works I'm fine with the way the rest of the hotel room is. But saying that yeah those towels are terrible I've never seen towels like that and I've stayed in a few sketchy hotels rooms in my time.
You should have stayed at the EconoLodge, it's on the same street about 1 mile away, and it's far better. I've been there in 2012, everything was okay, and there was even a small swimming pool, so it's very nice considering the price of the room. I LOVE Glendale ! It's like a paradise for me, as more than half of the population is Armenian (I'm Armenian) . You should have tried Armenian restaurants there :)
I stayed in only one Motel so far, and that was Motel 6 in San Diego. I did not like it at all. The bed sheets were not washed and had brown stains on them. They smelled like hair. There were poop stains on the bottom of the toilet and the room smelled like dog food. Never again will I stay at a Motel after that experience.
For a Rodeway Inn property, it's doable. Certainly not the worst place, but I can find a bit better. Do like the closet, good place to stash your suitcase and it's out of your way.

Wow that's like a 1 in a million find a livable rodeway not infested with mold or falling to bits
john leininger Glendale California is very nice
Nice review! It might be worthwhile to take off the pillowcases and have a look at the sides of the mattress, too.

I quite like the coloured bedspreads, plain white is just too clinical looking.
I have stayed at a hotel in Las Vegas that still has a working jacuzzi tub, next to the shower.

skyvator most hotels I stay at are already renovated and remodeled. Also the rooms are cleaner and do not smell like hair or dog food.
I only stay at Marriotts and hiltons
Have you done the review for the new Hotel at Valley View? in roanoke?
I can't even say the word roadway in the sun is out of my eyes way
Room 106 Tour 0:41
You stayed at a hotel not far from where I live.
Then you must be used to traffic. Drives me crazy every time I'm in SoCal. Beautiful place otherwise :D
Nice room, do you know "another dirty room" by Dan Bell?
I don't know if he does, but I sure do!
Rodeway inn is the weakest brand of choice hotels but it looks okay for the location
Cool
