This is a good example of how the publication of “research” is incentivized by universities not just for the pursuit of knowledge, but also to get funding. It all hinges on "we can't rule it out" no shet there is literally infinite things we cannot rule out. Even the most tested theories have a very very small chance to be proved wrong. To be serious, what they mean by related to fairies/elves and other mystery creatures is not that they are LITERALLY fairies. They mean that the folklore behind those creatures could be people using those names to describe what we now call aliens. Its just another name for the same phenomenon. If you actually read the folklore of fairies, goblins, elves, and other shit like that, especially their physical descriptions, it sounds like what we now call a grey alien. They are saying that everyone is actually talking about the same shit but getting confused because everyone named it something different.

That is the scientific process.
