It's not that difficult to get ahold of real human bones. Acquiring them legally is more difficult, but also not impossible. Old human bones are easier to get than new human bones, as laws used to be much more relaxed than they are now. Most human bones in circulation were originally acquired through grave robbing or bones that were displayed in side shows, some are from universities and people who donated their bodies to science.

I think that the way that the alien mummys are preserved is also physically impossible. Its so stiff and thin there's no way this would be able to be mummified without any kind of disturbance. mainly considering the arms and fingers, if it was real those would have snapped easily.

He lost his credibility and I see no reason to believe him now more.

I've been doing some worldbuilding for a novel where one of the key elements is that the main character belongs to a species unrelated to life on Earth that nevertheless evolved from a baboon-like ancestor. Actually designing the species to look both realistic and mundane instead of cool and artist-designed is quite the challenge. I think that the way that the alien mummys are preserved is also physically impossible. Its so stiff and thin there's no way this would be able to be mummified without any kind of disturbance. mainly considering the arms and fingers, if it was real those would have snapped easily.
