Aunt Viv struggled to finish high school and then college despite the pressure of her entire family depending on her to win, and now she is telling her testimony (cause she SURVIVED) to Kayla (Whitley from A Different World). Aunt Viv survived so she could tell her testimony to Kayla. I pray all of us survive any struggles we are in, so we can impart OUR testimony to someone who needs it like Aunt Viv did for Kayla.

I had made excuses for a long time about why I couldn't finish my degree. Finally, I just got sick of the excuses. I went to school, worked full time and finished my B.A. in English and graduated on the Dean's List. I have since been published. It was hard as hell sometimes, but I'm glad I did it. If you have a dream, there's a way to make it work. Just to prove it, my father, who had always wanted to study law, earned his law degree three years ago at the ripe old age of 70 and now he helps elderly people and veterans - my dad is a veteran, too - with wills. Seriously, it is never too late.

Hmmm. I think there is a storyline inconsistency. She got a PHD at age 20. For a high-school dropout that is impossible to get at that age. She would had to earn a Bachelor's and a Masters within about 2 years and completed her PHD in the other 2. This is assuming he even dropped out of school before the age of 16, got a GED, and went straight to college (which I don't think they would legally allow). A PHD in Eng Lit no less while holding down a job at a motel AND meeting and having freetime to spend with her future husband.
It's Hollywood. Character backgrounds don't have to make sense or be consistent. It's the message that matters - "Ladies don't let no no-good man (like Will) derail your future or ambitions. You too can be an accomplished dancer AND fast-track your higher education AND meet a potentially successful man AND land a great career AND live in a big house and wonderful neighborhood AND have many kinds and be a great mom. You just have to be focused." Having unrealistic goals and expectations is why alot of potentially successful people burn out early.
