      It was a great example of how professional pilots think ahead and avoid dramas, rather than having to deal with them.
      Just a pity that it is not always that easy crossing the Irish sea, where all the storm clouds meet for lunch. 😊

    Seeing a thunderstorm from the skies are amazing and those clouds are beautiful. To hear how these pilots handle the change in the route was great. Beautiful 787, very quiet; I'm happy that they approved the change. To watch this pilot make the plane turn was amazing and seeing it turn outside to the left was great. I enjoy listening to this pilot as he explains and show us what they do in this situation. Very beautiful to see as you move away. Awesome pilots and an awesome video, I love it.

      That's an amazing catch there. I thought I saw it but didn't think of it until you said something because it was far away and small due to the distance. It was after he said at night, you could see the lightening; after that, you can see two strikes in the distance. Still awesome :)

      Oliver Charles it’s a lateral offset. You can program in the FMS.

      Gavin Singh not necessarily. Some cells produce lower levels of lightning. Also, half the cells you ever encounter will be embedded in which case you can’t see where it’s coming from. Add it that the fact that the most dangerous parts of a storm system aren’t not necessarily the most dangerous. All in all, lightning is a quite unreliable way to avoid weather.

      If you look at top left of display you'll see Range 160 in a box. Each concentric ring is 40 miles apart starting with first one 40 out from aircraft. Range might be variable, not sure.

    About 100-125 miles ahead of them there's a monstrous cell that looks like the mushroom cloud from a 100 megaton blast.

      Just outside the lift of current wing designs and engine capability. Let me check that...they could go up to 45k under the best conditions but it wouldn’t be 99.99% safe as is required.

      Updrafts and down drafts go well above the storm. If the storm is at 30k the winds could be at 40k or higher. Safer to go around by 10 - 20 miles if isolated cell. Thats why flights go around hurricanes/ cyclones.

He is Above it and if he does not want turbulence, he can deviate L or R .... he went left a little bit ... and if you look out his window, you can see it out there alone... you don't even need Radar .... So, My Point Is ... You See a Red Dot, Don't Understand It ...

      ZY MX25 wow, you really know nothing don’t you.
      Radar returns are often more ambiguous and frequently part of a complex which makes deviation a balancing of risk. Also, altitude information on radar is not precise and is not a great indication of where risk is.
      In short, as I said, it is often not that simple.
      You’d know this if you hadn’t gained your understanding sitting in your mums dining room.
