Another great interview. I use to follow a lot of Westside training out of articles from Powerlifting USA from the early 90s till the magazine ended. I was always amazed at what the lifters did. So awesome to listen to these great lifters who really pioneered so many of the trading methods that have helped so many lifters. Thanks for doing these pod casts.

Really nice interview. The consistent theme through all of these is the love and respect all of the guys had for Louie.
That last line from Gary about heaven was emotional.

Thank you so much for this great interview. Also thank you for accommodating my request about more infor about Matt Dimel. This still makes us hungry for more stories, especially his lifting mentality and struggling with weights, being rebellious, as well as saveage bar stories. I am sure this is a subject that a lot will be interested in

Love these podcasts with the old guard! Is there any chance we can also see what Westside is doing now? Some of the modern guys and some of what the gym is doing to maintain its lifting reputation now? Some of the modern machines etc and stuff Louie didn’t get to talk about?

Steve Wilson slammed king Kong Bundy when wrestling came to Cleveland. He had a super suit on an john blacks whole team was there an Bundy said he didn't do it right an the guys from Black s were throwing chairs in the ring. Bundy got on TV that week an said some little weightlifter from Cleveland tried to get the job done an couldn't. True story

      Wow what a great story!
I started following powerlifting in 1985 when I graduated high school and started competing in 1987.
I think that was about the time he stopped competing as well as guys like Estep and Mike Bridges so although I read about them I missed their competitive years.
He always greatly interested me as he like Estep had a great physique.
I remember him on the cover of Powerlifting USA pulling his bicep and I heard he used to curl 100 lb dumbells.
Like many other great lifters of that era there is little information about him and little written but he always seemed like such an interesting character.

@mastersironmantarmstrong7148 no I started powerlifting in 1987 also. Steve was my coach from 1987 to 1989 an he was still competing. I saw him pull 850 world deadlift record in June of 1988 . It was easy he could of pulled 900 that day. I have never seen a powerlifter built as good as him. He was like 270 back then 23 inch arms . Monster traps . He was a specimen

a few years back there was a meet in tennesee i think the spf ironman or cell block, there was a group of westsiders who got into it with a motorcycle gang, legend has it someone picked up a motorcycle and like 6 westside memembers went to jail over that, is there anyone that can come on the podcast that can tell this story to its truth.
