Syracuse really was one of those magical teams to win a national championship. As a Longhorn, it was incredible to watch them play, even if it meant them beating Texas, it was still awesome to see Carmello bloom from what he was at the beginning of that season into the phenom in the final four
Just imagine how good that Cuse team would have been if Melo stayed more than one year. Warrick as a senior and Pace, Melo and G-Mac as juniors would have ravaged the tournament. This was one of the most impressive tournament runs, taking a 2 seed and three 1 seeds to win a title is impressive
This was such a great game. Regardless of THe lead, Kansas was never out of it. My biggest memories of this were Gerry’s first half, Nick collison’s huge game, Keith Langford Being in foul trouble, and an abundance of missed Kansas free throws.
because that's how goddamn good melo was. unbelievable the kind of poise and maturity he had as a freshman, along with his crazy athletic ability of course.
10 years later, and I still cant believe we lost. Great game though. This is the KU team that I grew up and learned to love the game with. Never has a loss hurt so much. Still one of the best championship games to be played in recent history.
From Syracuse. Was young when this happened but I remember stayin up late watching & when we won the whole city was going craaazzzzyyyyy. Cars going down street honking like crazy, people yelling all through the streets, Cops had to put oil on the lightposts so people would stop climbing on top of them, trash all through the streets in the morning. People partied for a week cause of this. Love my team❤❤
First of all, than you so much for an outstanding video put together extremely well. I live inn Scranton, home town of G-Mac. He had to become a play maker and not a shooter for the 'Cuse, a position he wasn't comfortable with. If you see all of his highlights, he is Mr. Clutch with his shooting. I can go on,and on,and on.....
Man I haven't seen it since I saw it live but that block of the 3 point attempt has stuck in my memory all these years. I remembered it as being Carmelo though.
This was Syracuse's redemption from the 1987 heartbreaker in the same building. Kansas got its redemption in the 2008 title game for this heartbreaking loss. Two classy programs and they both got well-deserved national titles.
no, he was called overrated in his senior season, 1 national title, 2 big east championships, all time syracuse 3 point leader...and some coaches called him overrated...Hes Legendary in Syracuse history.
They beat 2 number one seeds and one number 2 seed. They earned it. Not only that, they dominated the entire game against Kansas, and they led most of the way against Texas as well. And SU absolutely dominated 1 seed Oklahoma. They were hands down the best team in the country.
Gerry McNamara (Syracuse, #3) had six three-pointers in the first half and did not score the rest of the game. He injured his hand on the scoring table. Kansas would've been blown out if Gerry had been at full strength; getting within 3 points was a blessing.
Man that was a sick block,if you look at it again lee had made that three from the same spot at least three times.Roy losing this game was for the best tho,he got fired, went home to UNC,and won 2 natn'l championships in 5 years.
Yes, since the NCAA began using a tournament to determine a champion. The last time SU was champ was in 1926 (!), when they did it by consensus rather than a tournament. First men's tournament was in 1939 (Oregon won the whole enchilada--impress your friends with that bit of trivia!).
Melo really set the tone offensively that game it seemed creating numerous open looks for his teammates and getting McNamara hot from three. I don't really see why they stopped running the offense through him, when he wasnt touching the ball they lost their lead
The guy who made 6 three pointers in one half was Gerry MacNamara, who was one of Syracuse's best three point shooters of all time. He was always great at shooting three-pointers, so luck obviously had nothing to do with him making those shots. It's called "PHYSICAL ABILITY" and "SKILL" -- and those things have NOTHING to do with luck!
Not to jump in months after the fact, but, last I checked, threes are a part of the game, man. KU may have been a talented team, but they weren't the better team. 'Cuse's 2-3 confused them in the first half and KU's poor perimeter defense cost them. Either way you slice it, it was the most entertaining Final of the 2000s, up until the Kansas/Memphis clash in 2008.
its so wierd how Melo is really the last time Jim Boeheim let a freshman run the show at syracuse. Now even though he has really good freshman, he only plays them for 5 mins a game.
couple questions: One besides Anthony and I think Kirk Hinrich,? who else now plays in NBA for either of two Secondly, how is kansas better when syracuse has carmelo (should have won ROY in 2004 over LeBron) and the best 3 point shooter
@pachanga1987- Yea, np man. Glad u like it. I uploaded it cuz CBS youtube account uploads shitty, short ass vids of these gms, thought i'd upload a more complete version lol. I'm happy so many ppl enjoy em, thanks again dude
I would have faked the three first before shooting. There was enough time to do that. I also got to see the defender coming. But I'm not good on the court. I usually just watch games lmao. Great game.
when people think one team is better than the other just because they beat them once, that gets on my nerves. especially when that team becomes cocky afterward like they are great and everything. congrats on the title you won, but dont act like you were better that year than ku.
yeah, syracuse went up 18, and then when they came back down to earth, ku beat them the rest of the way, got it all the way back to 3 points. so to say ku didn't come to play is ignorant on your part. they played a good game, except they couldn't make their shots. despite syracuse gaudy 3 point shooting numbers, ku played good D, they had a hand in the face almost every time.
@10marianGaborik sorry! but the cuse just bit the dust in the west region. butler took them out. but the good news is the big east champs west virginia is still holding the big east fort in the ncaa tourney. they just took out the pac10 champ in the carrier dome and are laying in wait for kentucky. so cuse fans pack the dome and cheer on wvu and the big east over kentucky and on to the final four. BIG EAST #1 GOOO! WVU
13 years ago and I still get goosebumps!!! It was awesome to be at the dome watching that game!! #LetsGoOrange always and forever!
shut up
Melo can be such a gifted passer when he wants.
Eduard Popa 2003 one shining moment
doris burke say this in NBA 2K20 exaclty like that XDD
The biggest recruiting victory in Syracuse history . Getting Carmelo Anthony to play one year in college rather than going pro out if high school,!!
Syracuse really was one of those magical teams to win a national championship. As a Longhorn, it was incredible to watch them play, even if it meant them beating Texas, it was still awesome to see Carmello bloom from what he was at the beginning of that season into the phenom in the final four
That block is probably my favorite Syracuse moment of all time.
I teared up when Hakim Warrick blocked that Kansas 3 attempt ... And Syracuse is your National Champion!!
MacNamara was awesome. I liked the ending:
"Syracuse is your National Champion"
Carmelo was a champion in highschool, a champion in college, it's about time he wins a championship in the NBA.
Melo and his boys were bombing 3 pointers on that day.
Thank you
This was such a great game. Regardless of THe lead, Kansas was never out of it. My biggest memories of this were Gerry’s first half, Nick collison’s huge game, Keith Langford Being in foul trouble, and an abundance of missed Kansas free throws.
I live in Syracuse and I now go to Syracuse University, I will always remember this!! Cuse nation all the way :)
10 years later, and this game still gets my adrenaline pumping. What an awesome game.
I will remember this till the day I die. 2003 National Champions!! You can never take that away!!!!
because that's how goddamn good melo was. unbelievable the kind of poise and maturity he had as a freshman, along with his crazy athletic ability of course.

really great game. i was 9 when i saw this.
What's so great about the block by Warrick is he was actually playing Center at this point. It shows how much ground he covered to get that block.
From Syracuse. Was young when this happened but I remember stayin up late watching & when we won the whole city was going craaazzzzyyyyy. Cars going down street honking like crazy, people yelling all through the streets, Cops had to put oil on the lightposts so people would stop climbing on top of them, trash all through the streets in the morning. this never gets old.
First of all, than you so much for an outstanding video put together extremely well. I live inn Scranton, home town of G-Mac. Me too. Sometimes I play just that part when I'm feeling low.
yea. i really want him to go all the way with the knicks this year
Man I haven't seen it since I saw it live but that block of the 3 point attempt has stuck in my memory all these years. I remembered it as being Carmelo though.
This was one of the few national championship games where I thought the better team got beaten by the best player on the floor.
Nah, Kansas had 2 guys and a bunch of role players.
That Syracuse team was better.
Tf? Cuse was lightyears better than Kansas that year lmao!
8:22 the definition of WINNING.
This was Syracuse's redemption from the 1987 heartbreaker in the same building. Kansas got its redemption in the 2008 title game for this heartbreaking loss. Two classy programs and they both got well-deserved national titles.
all that matters is who was better that day.... it was a great game between two very talented teams
What a block by warrick! What a way to ensure their win!!!!
no, he was called overrated in his senior season, 1 national title, 2 big east championships, all time syracuse 3 point leader...and some coaches called him overrated...Hes Legendary in Syracuse history.
Go Cuse!! 2011-12 is another amazing season!!
They beat 2 number one seeds and one number 2 seed. They earned it. Not only that, they dominated the entire game against Kansas, and they led most of the way against Texas as well. And SU absolutely dominated 1 seed Oklahoma. They were hands down the best team in the country.

wow carmelo is just amazing, and mcnamara i am upset he didnt do more professionally i would have thought hed be a 1st round draft pick in the nba
My bestfriend Ronneil Herron played in this game! thats so awesome! he has the ring to prove it.
Great game go syracuse!!!! Gerry deserved to make the NBA
Yea I got da whole gm. It on DVD just look it up on Amazon
Nobody will believe me but I actually picked Syracuse to win it that year in my brackets. Melo was incredible.
Man that was a sick block,if you look at it again lee had made that three from the same spot at least three times.Roy losing this game was for the best tho,he got fired, went home to UNC,and won 2 natn'l championships in 5 years.

if you are talking about McNamara, he is now an SU assistant coach
top 3 games this game 6 ot over connecticut and that half court shot by pearl
Amazing fucking game!!! Warrick's block was SICK!!!
What a brutal team Syraceus had that year!
Hakim Warrick is on Memphis, he's a great shot blocker still, Nick Collison is on OKC, both r starters, idk if any 1 else is in the NBA tho...
I can’t believe this was 20 years ago!
I've met Billy Edelin 2 times in Syracuse. He still lives there.
Melo cuse boy thanks melo for bringing Syracuse a chip
I had Kansas winning in my bracket that year, so I HATED MELO!!!
But.... I live in Denver, so now I love him
Congrats 'Cuse
Justin Tara do you still love him?
The Power of The Forth!
its not the only reason, but it was certainly a huge part of it that night.
Agreed.
wow what a classic.
GREAT VIDEO... does anyone know where the video of mcnamaras 43 points against byu is???? 9 three pointers
You Gotta love March Madness.
melo was the best freshmen of all time
ya gotta come to play when there's a championship on the line hogh. good teams step it up a notch.
Watched this whole game
yea, Assistant Coach for SU now, I see him at all the games
@chanman4rings i agree, but he's doin good on the nuggets. But our 2010 team is good! Lets go 'Cuse!
do you have any syracuse tourny games of that year
The guy who made 6 three pointers in one half was Gerry MacNamara, who was one of Syracuse's best three point shooters of all time. He was always great at shooting three-pointers, so luck obviously had nothing to do with him making those shots. It's called "PHYSICAL ABILITY" and "SKILL" -- and those things have NOTHING to do with luck!
does anyone remember who scored the firsst three points for kansas?
Warrick was a Sophmore.... But I get your point
yes
Not to jump in months after the fact, but, last I checked, threes are a part of the game, man. KU may have been a talented team, but they weren't the better team. 'Cuse's 2-3 confused them in the first half and KU's poor perimeter defense cost them.

That just goes to show how special Melo was...
@ChainGangSoulja266 he was drafted by utah but never mae the team. he now his a coaches beside Jim boehiem
couple questions: One besides Anthony and I think Kirk Hinrich,? who else now plays in NBA for either of two
Secondly, how is kansas better when syracuse has carmelo (should have won ROY in 2004 over LeBron) and the best 3 point shooter

I missed the 1st half of this game, I was aware of McNamara's 3 pointers but I wasn't aware that Syracuse scored 53 at the half.
do you know of a place that i can watch the full game online? id like to see it
how many threes did McNamara make in the whole game?
@RazaIsCool who's number 3..do you live under a rock
@NuBoko yea if i remember correctly
hey, anyone think we could pull that off thirteen years later?!
how many points melo had
@jboss1008 what, he was a freshman, he only played one year at su
@RazaIsCool he's an Asst Coach for Syracuse now
He'll yeah
Oh what I would do for another Kansas/Syracuse championship rematch in New Orleans this year. I can dream, right? Rock Chalk.
Wonderful. Thanks for the video.
I would have faked the three first before shooting. There was enough time to do that. I also got to see the defender coming. But I'm not good on the court. I usually just watch games lmao. Great game.
@RazaIsCool- Gerry McNamerra, i think he was in the D League, but not the NBA
when people think one team is better than the other just because they beat them once, that gets on my nerves. especially when that team becomes cocky afterward like they are great and everything. congrats on the title you won, but dont act like you were better that year than ku.
AMEN!!!
best part of this game? roy williams post game interview
Thanks I appreciate it. But sry I don't got that, but I do remember watchin it. LOL
hes a good passer when he chooses
wow melos got alot of assists
yeahhh buddy! Syracuse is going to handle again !
Guess you didn't see the 2006 Big East Tournament. G-Mac was no fluke, and he didn't need as many as six threes to prove it.
was this syracuse's first championship?
haha Boeheim's wife, she is pretty good looking
@cellmike07- o thanks for the info, didnt know that lol. I wondered where he went
This game was over from the first quarter 😭
I've never seen melo pass the ball so much ahaha
yeah, syracuse went up 18, and then when they came back down to earth, ku beat them the rest of the way, got it all the way back to 3 points. so to say ku didn't come to play is ignorant on your part. they played a good game, except they couldn't make their shots. despite syracuse gaudy 3 point shooting numbers, ku played good D, they had a hand in the face almost every time.
@10marianGaborik
sorry! but the cuse just bit the dust in the west region. butler took them out.
but the good news is the big east champs west virginia is still holding the big east fort in the ncaa tourney. they just took out the pac10 champ in the carrier dome and are laying in wait for kentucky.
so cuse fans pack the dome and cheer on wvu and the big east over kentucky and on to the final four.
BIG EAST #1
GOOO! WVU
Nice
