    The 2003 Syracuse Orangemen had a special angel guiding them to victory that night-my father, Frank Emmi, who was a big Syracuse fan.

    Billy Packer said it best: Has New Orleans given us Final Fours or not? The ending of this game proved it.

    Not a Boeheim fan but I'm glad he was able to get this one.

      Yeah, it would’ve sucked if he never got one with how many wins he had.
      Really, they should’ve won in 1987 too. Had the best team. Cuse missed a bunch of free throws and of course Keith Smart hits that shot.

    I hate how Billy Packer was BLATANTLY rooting for Kansas in this one. The play where Melo hit the 3 right before the half, you could tell he was mad they didn't try and foul.

    I wonder if Roy Williams would have stayed at Kansas if they'd won this game?

    • @meharinationsportspodcast2582
      @meharinationsportspodcast2582 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't think it wouldn't matter because UNC wanted Roy Williams since Smith's retirement. Plus, three years with Matt Doughty were beyond terrible and the players were ready to walk out.
      You also have to factor Williams relationship with then athletic director, Al Bohl. Both of them hated each other and Kansas fired Bohl in an effort to keep Williams from leaving to no avail. They were lucky enough to have Bill Self in the mix and had no problem leaving Illinois to take his dream job in Kansas.

    Kansas lost this game from their careless turnovers, poor free throw shooting, bad three point shooting, and couldn't contain Macnamara 3pt shooting and all round play of Carmelo Anthony.

    That's why to this day i got no respect for Roy Williams. He went to Carolina the next season. I'm a Cuse fan and i've always rooted for Kansas ever since, when Cuse ain't in the tourney. Can't stand the bs Roy Williams "legacy".

      @@thescatman5029 He turned it down once - Doherty didn't work out so just 3 years later it circled back again. I don't know a person alive who can turn their dream job down twice. Seemed that it was meant to be for Roy to return to UNC.

      @@walterlv01 Plus Roy didn’t get along with the athletic director at KU. Even if they won, he probably would have been left anyway.

      Stop the nonsense. Williams brought the Kansas program from the dead after endured the bogus sanctions after Larry Brown left for the NBA in 1988. His teams averaged 30 wins a season, and his foundation left the door open to maintain their winning ways when Self came in 2004.
      Plus, Williams didn't get along with Al Bohl, the previous athletic director of Kansas. He could have left for UNC in 2000, but stayed to coach Hinrich and Collinson.
      Yes, he didn't win a championship in Kansas. But without Williams direction, Kansas would have died a slow death. Give him his credit for his coaching achievements and talent building.

      @@meharinationsportspodcast2582 This is a great point. People forget that KU was on probation when Roy got there, and he had them in the title game three years later. Yes, he didn't win a title there, but as you said, he laid out a terrific foundation for Bill Self. You pointed out another great point that he turned down UNC once, and he's said "I just couldn't do it a second time..." Especially when you factor in UNC is his alma mater and Dean Smith was his idol and mentor, it really seemed like it was destiny that he'd coach there. You & others have said that Roy probably leaves after this game, regardless of the outcome because of his relationship with the old AD. I honestly had no idea about that, so that's definitely good info
