    Only just catching up after a crazy two weeks and oh my god. This was probably our favourite video of yours, ever. The storytelling, the cinematography, the music, it was sublime! I love how at Master Yanus’s shop it was just a microcosm of everything Turkish! Making sure you weren’t hungry, the simit seller, çay on tap. Made us miss Turkey so much, and your reflections summed up so beautifully everything I think we’re losing in Western cultures. Openness, warmth, kindness, a friendly smile, compassion… it doesn’t surprise us in the slightest that it was a Turkish guy who stopped to make sure you’re were okay when you were broken down. Congratulations on making some world class, documentary level films on these eastern countries. We’ve loved every single one. Can’t wait to see what’s next ❤

    When I saw Yunus cutting out that cardboard I had visions of him coating it with filler and underseal the same way as we repaired our Cortinas in the 1970's.
    IMO Bulgaria seems to be a nice mix of old world and new, and I'm hoping to do a trip there soon.
    Thank you very much for yet another wonderful video.

    Wow, guys! What an amazing journey! You didn't promise too much. This might be your best travel episode yet. The storytelling and choice of music were on point, keeping us engaged throughout. We really felt the hospitality of the countries east of Europe, and it was a pleasant surprise that the people in the countries we were warned about were the friendliest and most helpful. Your reports make a nice contribution towards setting the record straight 😀🙏

      Thanks so much Thomas! That’s wonderful to hear 😄 While we like to focus in on one interesting subject in a video we also find it flows really well making a video about such a long trip in one go- something to think about for our future journeys! 😁
      Sometimes you’ve just got to push yourself to see a country through your own eyes and not believe the stories-
      all of our experiences are subjective after all ☺️

    I'm still absolutely astonished that LDV made it. I truly thought it was finished after it failed it's MOT back in 2020, let alone the myriad breakdowns you had along the way. Absolutely incredible vehicle, single-handedly restoring LDV's reputation. Top credits to the mechanics in Yerevan, Ankara and others working on an unfamiliar vehicle who managed to get her going again!

      Yes we were speaking to a local couple at the hot spring, shame it was actually the mayor who destroyed it! Although they couldn't agree on whether he was drunk at the time or not 😂 But it was because it became way too popular, and it's times like this when it makes us realise the value of information online, and how we need to be careful in what we share and be aware of the consequences it can have

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're hugely under rated aren't they. Always loved the shape of them and for a budget van it's done very well over the years with the challenging conditions we've put it through

    • @LordClunk
      @LordClunk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FromRustToRoadtrip Very underrated. My LDV200 was ex MOD, so was plated at 3.5 tons. They are normally 2.8 tons. And it had a dirty fuel system. As such, I often put things like used engine oil (Filtered) and veg oil in the fuel tank. At the time, veg oil from Tesco was 18p a litre when diesel was 95p a litre. So I would often buy 50 litres of veg oil, and put it in the tank in the car park. Rust took it away. At the time I had no where to keep it to weld it up. One thing I noticed with both vans is how noisy the centre bearing is on the prop shaft. On my van I replaced it twice in the 3 years I owned it. They fail quick. They also have a super low first gear. Fantastic for pulling itself out of mud.
      Nice to see the Tamar Bridge in a video as well. I cross it twice a day. :)

    • @alanhat5252
      @alanhat5252 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LordClunk the 200 was the Sherpa/Pilot, do you mean the 300? - the single-wheel Convoy.
      I really enjoyed my Pilot, it drove like a sports car till the chassis round the back suspension collapsed. I didn't have the facilities to deal with it at the time, it would have been a monumental job because it was fitted out for living on top of a works van full plywood lining making it a fire hazard to weld.

I nearly got stung like that with an expensive recovery bill about a year ago when my car overheated in a traffic jam on a motorway in Croatia. 22:40 this happens when it's raining doesn't it? Put umbrellas over the 2 computers in the cab (1 under the ash tray & 1 high on the driver's door post as I recall), fix the gutters & seal the windscreen rubber. Problem should be solved.
    24:20 I stand corrected.

    • @FromRustToRoadtrip
      @FromRustToRoadtrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, our ECU lives sandwiched between two ice cream tubs at all times! We had that problem back in Montenegro.We keep sealing the gutters but the leaks inevitably return. We've never been able to replace the windscreen rubber but we do have a strip of bath trim (!) fixed to the top, it helps repel most of the water off the top seal 😅

    • @alanhat5252
      @alanhat5252 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FromRustToRoadtrip I've been thinking of a strip of metal-foil tape across the top of my windscreen but it's only got bad enough to deal with just recently. Older car spares shops often carry a sealant specifically for windscreens that I'm also toying with.
      The gutter is a difficult one because it's a bodged design, it's the 1950s separate gutter on top of the wall but that only works with a very shallow roof & not particularly well even then. The fibreglass roof is glued to this & not supported again till the horizontal ribs across the roof so there's lots of opportunity to flex & tear the bottom joint open.
      What I've done on the one I've fixed is attack it viciously with a wire brush in an angle grinder to get lots of rust out, soaked Wickes rust converter into it then filled the full length with domestic mastic & an extra run on top of the gutter in an attempt to make it gutter shaped then Hammerite to seal. It still looks good after a year or so, no cracking. I'll be doing the other one this summer once I've got myself sorted out again (most of my stuff is haphazardly in shipping containers at the moment).

    17:34 I've painted my track rod white for exactly this reason. It didn't work though, it was me that jacked it on the track rod :-/
    Still, 2 big pairs of Stillsons to stop it rotating & you can put a jack against the chassis to straighten it.
    1500Km?? You're lucky you didn't melt a tyre!
    Breaking any of the steering is really unlikely, it's the strongest I've seen on anything smaller than 7.5tonne. Boiling the power steering oil I suppose is possible but I've never heard of it.

      Yeah it was a pretty insane amount of driving to do on it, only realising how dangerous it could've been after! We were trying to find a mechanic who could fix the problem from Bulgaria onwards, we didn't want to end up at the mercy of a European garage!

      @@FromRustToRoadtrip yep, anywhere from Italy westwards would have insisted on replacing it which would have been a huge wait. They're not expensive but as long as they're not kinked they can be straightened so why wait?

    Agree about Brexit totally. England becoming more divisive and intolerant by the month.

    It must get to a point where endless rebuilds repair s the total cost would have bought you a new low mileage Van .
    Flogging a dead horse to long with that Van.
    A complete engine change might be cheaper if you can get one that fits.
    Research engines that fit your van .
    But the rust is so bad .
    I would add scrap it.

      If we’d have listened to all the people who told us to scrap this van over the years we would’ve never had half the adventures we have. And who’s to say a new van wouldn’t have had as many problems?
      We much prefer to repair than replace, keep old vehicles on the road and go against the endless cycle of consumerism making people believe they always need to buy new to be better. We’ve learned so much from the repairs on this van and we wouldn’t have had it any other way ☺️

    We agree about the U.K. closing inwards, and of course the ignorance about other cultures, countries and politics ❤ We too will be returning to this part of the world, the further we drive east the more at home we feel, something we don’t feel back in England any more sadly

      Yep totally agree there, we felt so at home in these countries around truly welcoming and lovely people. It's always hard to come home these days, but especially so this time. Our home really is on the road and sadly, not in the UK anymore.
