IMO, Gerry extended the life of the Ventures by 30 years. When Nokie sort of left the group Gerry stepped in admirably. Gerry the perfect fit for the Ventures. An amazing guitar player. RIP.
Mel Taylor without doubt the best drummer any rock & roll instrumental group . F.Y.I. Some may not know that Mel also played on several albums for Buck Owens. He loved Buck and his Buckaroos. Buck had Mel sit in on certain songs when needed that special drumming. Willie Cantu then learned his style which is heard on many of Bucks recordings. mos60

Also, Mel Taylor was born in Brownsville in Brooklyn NY in 1933, which also makes him a FAMOUS NEW YORKER or BROOKLYNITE as well. He died young at the age of 62 from a brain tumor (aka cancer) in 1996, which is like an automatic death sentence that's very painful, and kills unexpectedly and very difficult to control as well, and no cure or treatment has ever been found for getting rid of it in 2022 as well. Mel did NOT deserve this kind of painful death at all. Its the WORSE form of death that can happen to any person, that we do NOT wish on anyone. Have a Happy New Year for 2023.

The author is the military Kapellmeister of the regiment Ilya Shatrov.In February 1905, the 214th reserve Moksha infantry regiment fell into the Japanese encirclement during the heavy fighting between Mukden and Liaoyang (see the battle of Mukden) and was constantly attacked by the enemy. At a critical moment, when the ammunition was running out, the regimental commander, Colonel Pyotr Pobyvanets, gave the order: Kapellmeister Shatrov led the band to the parapet of the trenches, gave the order to play a battle March, and led the band forward behind the regiment's banner. Encouraged, the soldiers charged with bayonets. During the battle, the regiment continuously attacked the Japanese to the music of a band and eventually broke through the encirclement. In the course of the battle, the commander of the regiment was killed, from the 4,000 personnel of the regiment 700 people remained, from the orchestra only 7 musicians remained alive

I'm a school bus charter driver. When the team reboard from their game, I played Ginza lights by the Ventures, turn it up on boom box, grab the broom as guitar, then I start all the surf dance moves. The kids love it. I'm the favorite bus driver, lol. They need to know there was this other music, not just todays crap they listen to.

今日ドンウイルソンさんが死亡したと新聞にでてました。、８８歳で自然死ということでした。ご冥福をお祈りします。オリジナルメンバーはこれで消滅ということで残念でなりません。ライブ何回かみにいきました。テケテケサウンドが聞けないと思うと寂しいかぎりです。
