Thanks for this video. Black Velvet is familiar song to me but rest of the album is new. I must buy this. Couple of songs reminds me a little bit of Lee Aaron songs from her album "Body Rock". Merry Christmas!
No problem! Are you in the States? or Somewhere else? This album was HUGELY popular back in the day in Canada, so I'm wondering if it was popular anywhere else... And yes, some songs are similar to Lee Aaron.. but not the voice! Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for stopping by!
I have this album somewhere, it is a guilty pleasure. Black Velvet is a phenomenal song, it was a HUGE hit over here. I'm gonna listen to your review, because I can't remember how the rest of the songs go.
I don’t know how big of a hit Black Velvet was in the States but a friend of mine who was a bartender, used to play this song and sing a karaoke version of it. I actually bought this whole album digitally because of that song. Solid album front to back.
Hehehehehehe! Ok I'm glad it was a hit somewhere else than Canada! :) And yes, very good album... i'm curious to hear how her other albums sound like...
@@JakesMusicState I've also never ventured past this album... but she apparently IS/WAS paralyzed in the neck and back and hasn't performed live since 2015 due to this.... (from what i can find online)
Black Velvet was a very popular song in New Zealand at the time. Not sure how the other singles from the albums did, I bought that as a single at the time. Its still played on the radio.
Here in Ohio, Black Velvet was the most overplayed song everywhere. It was replayed so much you grew to hate it, sadly. Actually still listen to this album but skip over that song 90% of the time....I have a rating request for you, if you have it. Speaking of obscure bands that have been nearly forgotten, Baby Animals debut is also one of my favorite albums with a lead female vocal. And she was absolutely fantastic. Her name slips my mind at the moment without having it the credits in reach. Merry Christmas, and thank you for this channel.
Ah ok, so it was popular in the States also... I was not aware of that... Hmmmm, I never heard of Baby Animals... I shall have to go check out and put in my wishlist! :) If I'm looking at Discogs, it's the Australian band with front woman Suze Demarchi? Just want to make sure I got the correct band! LOL Merry Christmas to you too and thank YOU for the nice comments and watching this channel!
Didn't realise she had 6 albums! Presume the rest are pop rock. I'd say your review would be higher at 7 than mine would. Mine would be closer to 5 given the overall album quality.
Its unfortunate that as big as that record became, in the end she was basically screwed buy Atlantic records. The contract she signed forced her to repay millions in expenses. As a result, after all the awards she brought in over the years, she was still basically broke.
Yeah, i read up on that while doing this episode and researching a few items... seems she got her first huge royalty cheque in the 2000s... (I may have the years wrong, but it was quite a long time after her first album came out)... and to make matters worse, i found out she is(was?) paralyzed in the neck and back... she can't even sit down, and needs help to walk... :( Thanks for watching and commenting!

So it went all the way to Ireland and a huge hit also! I'm learning LOTS about her chart success with the comments here! :)
@@offthecharts2272 It blew the radio up that year, and appeared on every soft rock compilation for about 10 years afterwards! Huge hit.
@ i was just reading up ok her just now…. Apparently she is now paralyzed in the back and neck???
@@offthecharts2272 Oh no!? That's awful news.
@@davebrowne8252 Yeah... apparently since 2010-11? All due to a chiropractor...

You own it as a 45 inch??? So it was a hit worldwide then I guess eh?
Yeah it was all over radio here. Probably still gets airplay. My favorite song is Kickstart My Heart.
@ because you thought it was a Motley Crue cover? 😂😋
@@offthecharts2272 Just the single for " Black Velvet " is all I own. Even the mums loved
that song.

Yeah, I didnt realise she had 6 albums either until recently... I only knew of the first two back then!
