Nothing personal but i got real enjoyment from watching the puppy , he was having a grand time. Just think of all the steps he had to take for each of yours. When you let him , he was doing a good job of leading the pack. It appears he is already a very enthusiastic camper/hiker. The hail was Mother Nature's way of offering you some ice for a iced drink.
Chuck Littleton yeah we really feel lucky having him. He was a total adventurer and went beyond all expectations. I’m very relieved, lol. Regarding the iced drink with hail, I think you are a very enlightened individual; because that makes so much sense in a way that not many people can understand. Cheers brother
Backpacking With Jason thanks Jason. I believe I lucked out living in an area where there are so many options for scenic hikes. I know this isnt the case with some other parts of the country, so i feel grateful. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Born and raised in WA and never been there for some reason. Btw I'm sure you know this but hanging your platypus from a tree is a lot easier than holding 7 pounds of water up for several minutes. A carabineer helps.
Sweet bro... Beautiful everywhere. Nice addition to the group... Bernie that is. The ending was funny... Katie probably didn't think so. Thanks for sharing, take care.
RedWhite&Blue 78 thanks man. You would like this trail. If you ever decide to hit the PNW before I get to hit Baldy, let me know and I’ll hit up a trail like this one with you!
Welcome to WA, freak rain and hail storms. Good thing you had the pup to keep you warm. I wanna do this hike just not the rain and hail if possible lol
Do you have a harness/ packing carrier for Bernie so he doesn’t have to walk all the time? He is so little that it would be great to have him carried so his little paws don’t get raw and your hands would be free. Some of the pet carriers are on the front of a person others as a backpack. Either way it is a relief for the pet and person. Plus the pet can see all around. Enjoyed your adventure.
Awesome trip brother! Some great views. Editing was spot on and the new pup looked at home. Looks like that tent got a workout so the review should be interesting. Thanks for taking us along!
Pinetree Line Outdoors thanks Doug! I honestly thought the tent was going to collapse at some point, but was pleasantly surprised. Although the tent still has some flaws, I think it's not bad for a sub $150 4 season tent. Thanks for dropping by brother!
Alex Wright thanks Alex! Dude, you really gotta check it out. It’s somewhat strenuous, but it’s really worth it. Bring a plenty of repellent though man. Trust me
Just so you know, when you’re using droplets, drop them directly above and vertical to the cup. Otherwise, you’re not getting an exact, prescribed amount.
Man that’s some views!! Looks like Bernie kept up nicely and had fun. I know it bites when stuck in a tent and it’s raining, but before the torrential downpour it was soothing lol.
Holy cow your editing and camera work keeps getting better every time, great job! I enjoy the sound of rain on a tarp as well - not only is it relaxing but also a great excuse to cook up some food hahaha. I think Bernie is shaping up to be a great travel partner! Thanks for the video man!
Sheety33 thanks! I have tried the sawyer filter, but noticed the Platypus is easier to use in the sense that I don’t have to squeeze water through the filter , as well as the flow rate being higher it seems 👌
Wow well made video. Scenery was absolutely fantastic! I feel very sorry to my dog. I must visit Montana. I will subscribe your video. Appreciated your creature. From Korea.....
mark scott it did hold up well! It's the Cloud up 3 by Nature Hike. It does look very similar to the Fly Creek, but the Pole system is slightly different (theres an additional pole perpendicular near the foot area). Did you end up settling on a tent yet? I know you've been looking.
Finally seeing someone with a small dog instead of always a large dog. How does your dog do on the trail as far as keeping up? Also make sure you you pack a dog first aid kit.
Rusty Bosley Sup man! In my opinion, you cant go wrong with the Solomon GTX 4d or the Zamberlion Vioz GT(it's a bit pricier, but really comfortable). I also like the ankle support these two boots provide (I get paranoid about rolling my ankles during rocky hikes).
Edward Shin Thanks bud, I’ve been looking at the Solomon GTX boots for a while and couldn’t decide. Thanks for your input. Yes good ankle support is essential. Thanks bro, be safe
OutdoorsOrBust glad you asked! While the Platypus is an awesome filtration system, it only filters particulates and bacteria, but not viruses. So I use the purifier drops to kill any possible viral contamination. It’s probably not necessary , but I like to be safe than sorry just in case there’s that slim chance I pick up viruses in the pouch. Having diarrhea while backpacking miles out is no joke. With that said, I won’t put drops in it if I’m boiling it for dehydrated meals. 👍
Last I knew we don't have viruses in any of our waters in the USA. Bacteria yes, and this is what will give you the Hershey Squirts! I put together a water filtration/purification system for a kayak trip down the Willamette a few years ago. I will literally turn Willy water into better than Evian water. I use an MSR 10L dromedary water bag to collect water in. Then add 2 drops of Clorox bleach per liter (so 20) into the bag. Close it up and shake it around to mix the bleach good. Give it 20-30 mins to kill EVERYTHING in the water. When ready to filter, I check the scent of the water. If it still has a hint of bleach, it is good to go. If the bleach smell is gone, I'll need to do it again, as it was used up in the "killing" phase. Once this is good, I pour 4L into the dirty bag of the Sawyer filter system (similar to your Platypus). Then it flows down to a homemade carbon filter to remove the bleach, and any other organics, smells, tastes etc.. Then it flows through the Sawyer 0.1 micron filter that catches anything else that the carbon missed, which usually is just sediment if anything at this point. It finally flows into either water bottles or the clean 4 L Sawyer collection bag. 8 L bleached and filtered takes about an hour total from start to finish, and mostly does this while I diddled around camp doing other things. But man the water tasted so good! No chlorine taste, no dirt taste, nothing! After a week on the river, and gallons of water consumed, we were good with no stomach issues. And this was the Willamette River (upstream of Salem BTW).
The Willy is at it's worse below Salem, after all the agricultural, and city crap that gets into it. If you want to document a vast contrast regarding the Willamette River sometime, I would highly recommend that you visit the river where it flows into the Columbia. Take good look at it. Then make a trip up into the mountains to Waldo Lake, and see where the Willamette River starts it's life as the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River. You will be shocked.
Zach Novosad the filters reduce particulates, but do not kill any viruses. The purifier drops would do that. With that said, there aren’t always viruses in the water, but I just like to take more precaution and be safe. Runny poop 8 miles in would really be bad lol
Darren Jackson Thanks Darren!! The only concern we had was if we were going to get hit by lightning since we were out in the open basin, lol. But it definitely was really loud. I initially thought it was giant raindrops until we saw hail collecting near the vestibule floor. If you like this scenery, there are plenty of hikes like this out here, so if ever you decide to give hiking/backpacking/camping a shot out in the Pacific Northwest, let me know and I’ll show you some!
Man, Goat Rocks sure looks pretty. I do enjoy hunkering down in a tent during a storm...until I have to pee lol. Is that a Cloud Up 3 tent? I was looking at some of the Naturehikes. What tent did your friend have? Lastly, are those drops a virucidal treatments?
ricecowboy yo! Yeah, hunkering down during a storm is awesome, but the sound of raindrops certainly doesn’t help not thinking about peeing, lol. You got it on the money, it is a cloud up 3 that I was sent to review. I have mixed feelings about it to be honest. I’ll be making a review video on it, but if you want more immediate opinions, shoot me an email. My friend has the Sierra Designs Convert 2, and it looks like a solid tent. And yep, the drops kill Protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. I’ve used it for years and they’ve never done me wrong!
Edward Shin I think you’re too hardcore for those budget tents man. Lol. I’m planning a solo hike (with dog) to Maroon Bells, Colorado to do the 28 mile Four Pass Loop later this month, and most of my gear is “budget” friendly. Still haven’t decided what all I’m taking in my pack since I’ve done a hike at such elevation, nor have I hiked over 16 miles in one trip, nor have I done a solo hike in those conditions. I’m just trying not to die out there. Lol it may hurt a bit.
ricecowboy dude, Maroon Bells is on my bucket list! I’m stoked for your trip. It sounds like quite an adventure with you and your dog. How many days are you planning to do that hike?
Edward Shin I think 4 days 3 nights since I’m planning to take a small camera to film as I hike. I’m still trying to figure out my loadout. Cooper’s an 87lb lab mix so he’ll need 10-12 lbs of food. I may have to go on a diet. Lol. Bear canisters are required, so trying to stuff all that dog food, my food, and toiletries will be a challenge in the bear vault. Hopefully my pack weight during the first two days won’t kill me. Otherwise I’m gonna have to eat 6lbs worth of food on the first night. LOL
ricecowboy oh wow, I wonder how heavy your loadout will be! With that many days, I’m guessing at least 45 lbs? I definitely think the first few days will be challenging, and if you eat 6 lbs of food the first night I wouldn’t blame you lol. Are you going to make a video of your trip? Or just photos? I’m interested in seeing how your trip will be like, especially because now I’ll be bringing a dog to trips as well ( not as big as yours of course lol)
Welcome to WA, freak rain and hail storms. Good thing you had the pup to keep you warm. I wanna do this hike just not the rain and hail if possible lol
7:20 that dog is freakin happy
Great video! Lovely views and an adorably puppy
Camilla o Fia thank you!
I about cried when I saw that puppy at the beginning.
Awesome landscape! And the little pup sleeping with mama was tuggin on this big fellas heartstrings 😄
Oh that rain on the tent sound. If I could bottle that sound and have on hand whenever, I'd be set for life!
insaynbcr amen to that 🍻

Cool video. Really liked how you put it together. You always find the most beautiful places. Enjoyed watching. 😃😃👍👍
Backpacking With Jason thanks Jason. I believe I lucked out living in an area where there are so many options for scenic hikes. I know this isnt the case with some other parts of the country, so i feel grateful. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Out west, rain is a given... forecast or not. Enjoy. Rain makes the world green. peace
Wonderful looking place so much great scenery have a great one
kirk miller thanks Kirk!

Fun adventure, cute puppy
Righteous1 thank you!

Edward Shin... For sure bro... I'd love to make an out of state backpacking trip...
Welcome to WA, freak rain and hail storms. Good thing you had the pup to keep you warm. I wanna do this hike just not the rain and hail if possible lol
Nice video, little bit of everything, beautiful area!
m l thank you! Gotta show you as much as I can, lol
Hey bud. Stopped by to say hey.
Video was great. Good editing.
That landscape is nuts. Nothing like where I live. Crazy.
Thanks for sharing.
NYZ Outdoors thanks man! And thanks for dropping by. If you ever decide to try camping out this way, hit me up!

Great adventure! Lil pup seemed to enjoy it. That was quite the editing job. Good work. Thanks again.
khakhashi Sam thank you Sir! 🙏. Yeah I’m relieved that he was able to handle it. Not gonna lie, we carried him a few times on the trail, lol
Edward Shin :) figured as much. Those little legs can get tired pretty fast. The hail was awesome. Very picturesque scenery.
Awesome video as always!
Rob Mascarinas thanks my Bro
Very cool man, I've been meaning to backpack through the Goat Rocks sometime, looks awesome. Nice editing btw!
Alex Wright thanks Alex! Dude, you really gotta check it out. It’s somewhat strenuous, but it’s really worth it. Bring a plenty of repellent though man. Trust me
Awesome scenery!
Just so you know, when you’re using droplets, drop them directly above and vertical to the cup. Otherwise, you’re not getting an exact, prescribed amount.
Wow beautiful place for camping! awesome water filter...
Man that’s some views!!
Looks like Bernie kept up nicely and had fun.
I know it bites when stuck in a tent and it’s raining, but before the torrential downpour it was soothing lol.
Black River Rambler luckily the rain only lasted 2 hours, whew!
Amazing video !
Cecilia Coch thank you!
That place was heaven. You have earned a new sub.
the place is so beautiful..
Lima Charlie it is. I’m grateful for places like these 👍
Tent held up good
Holy cow your editing and camera work keeps getting better every time, great job! I enjoy the sound of rain on a tarp as well - not only is it relaxing but also a great excuse to cook up some food hahaha. I think Bernie is shaping up to be a great travel partner! Thanks for the video man!
Cesar Lopez thanks Cesar! I was very surprised that he did so well for this age, and it being his first time. Cheers brother
Watch for hawks with that pup🙃 Great vid
Eric Poutous that was actually something we lightly joked about during camp, lol. So we didn’t let him wander too far. Thanks for watching!
Eric Poutous... you beat me to it.
Nice video! A lot of steps for filtering water. Have you tried the sawyer water filter - it will make backpacking easier! Nice trip!!
Sheety33 thanks! I have tried the sawyer filter, but noticed the Platypus is easier to use in the sense that I don’t have to squeeze water through the filter , as well as the flow rate being higher it seems 👌
@@KrokemOutdoors Makes sense! Watched your video again - love the sound of the rain / hail on the tent.
Cooking in your tent is always a good idea.
Very cool! We switched to aquamira last summer and like it a lot!
Dennis Lee it’s definitely a great purifier 👍
Like your video editing style. From another camper in Southern Cal. ;)
johnny lee thank you 🍻🤙
WOW sow beautiful and breath tacking out there wish i could be there with y'all
Brian LeJeune I hope you can make it out to this area one of these days. It’s really worth a look 👍
Wow well made video. Scenery was absolutely fantastic! I feel very sorry to my dog. I must visit Montana. I will subscribe your video. Appreciated your creature. From Korea.....
Seul Ki Kim thank you! 😁
Looks like the tent held up pretty well. What kind is it? Looks similar to a BA fly creek...

Well Edward, this was a great video masterpiece. Thank you. In the outdoors, always expect the unexpected. Take care and be safe out there. 🤗
Ronald Rose yeah, I’m learning and being reminded almost every time I go out, lol. Thank you Sir 🙏
OMG the snuggling puppy! sweeeeeeet!
Your videos are inspirational
New Saiyan thank you! I’m glad they do something , lol
Finally seeing someone with a small dog instead of always a large dog. How does your dog do on the trail as far as keeping up? Also make sure you you pack a dog first aid kit.
Awesome
As always homie!
kicowoof thanks bro!
Hey bro. What are the best hiking shoes in your opinion? Beautiful footage. Thanks for the vid

Rusty Bosley you bet man. I used the solomons on this trip and I didn’t get one blister 👍
Edward Shin awesome, those are the ones I’m going with as well. Thanks again
I too have used the Salomons returned home after a 4 day expedition on the Isle of Skye blister free and the driest feet of the group highly recommend
Hey dude, I got the platy filter as well. Why did you use the drops after you filtered the water already?

insaynbcr solid advice! I heard the Willamette is toxic, too. Thanks for the well thought out write up 👍
The Willy is at it's worse below Salem, after all the agricultural, and city crap that gets into it.

Just curious if you're filtering the water why are you using the droplets too?

great edits

Unpredictable weather...

Do you guys bring ear plugs
Welcome to WA, freak rain and hail storms. Good thing you had the pup to keep you warm. I wanna do this hike just not the rain and hail if possible lol
kelly Johnson yeah, we didn’t expect rain or hail on this trip, lol
