A tip for levelling stealth is to try using the cutter - the mining laser you start the game with. When you hold down the trigger it counts as multiple rapid-fire impacts, meaning sometimes you will get lots of sneak attacks in quick succession. On my current game I got all 10 for the first rank of stealth within a second on a single enemy. (It's possible you need to focus the beam first - by holding down the left trigger.)
For the same reason, the cutter is hilariously strong when you max out the lasers skill. The 5% chance to apply burn on hit happens all the time with it, for percentage-based damage. It melts the toughest enemies in seconds.

Another area you can leverage to level stealth is the Lair of the Mantis. Solve the puzzle in the turret room, then you can kneel down behind the turrets and attack them one at a time. Each hit counts as a sneak attack while you're hidden. I had heard about cutters being ridiculously strong with skills but never heard about the multiple hits before. If you have any hints on leveling up Concealment, let me know, having to be hidden melee attacks is a pain and I've been doing those on fauna with a disruptor to stun and a ripshank to attack...

For equipment based skill challenges, removing a mod can count too. Another tip for stealth and concealment, xenogrubs are easy to get behind and they've always counted for me.

1st Tier: Scavenging. Security. Wellness. Weight Lifting. Surveying. Piloting. Bootpack Training. Research Methods (if you plan on crafting.) I tend to ignore the combat tree.

Most of the features in Starfield are more leaning to crafting like research methods, weapon and suit modding, outpost building, ship building, Gastronomy, and Chemistry, so I usually max out those skill trees first that are beneficial to crafting. Some necessary skills like gymnastics, stealth, boost packing, targeting control system, weightlifting and piloting are also one of my priorities too. Having all those said skills I mentioned makes way more convenient and easy to obtain things especially when entering to the Unity when I want to make a new playthrough again. Overall, I love your skill guide for new players! 😁😁

Depends on the playstyle :) Cheers!

If you're not going to adventure with a companion, Isolation is one of the strongest skills in the game. 40% damage buff and 120 phys resistance is especially useful on +75% xp mode. Wellness is really good as well because it indirectly buffs Medicine since meds do % based healing.

To each their own for sure

I'm lvl 130 ish and have only one point into weapon damage and none into ship weapons. I went for skills that made me directly or indirectly tanky, hard to kill and healthier. I still don't die in 75% survival mode, actually it feels easier now due to food and chem buffs, weapon damage will be the last thing I rank up.

I believe, that even if you are not into spacecombat, its allways nice to take over a ship on a planet and be able to fly it (piloting) 😎😎

@renfail Love the content. Joining on twitch soon. Could you do a video for players at higher levels and wanting to level up. I’m at 86, Ng+ 10, and leveling up crafting. I had previously focused on gun and ship combat. Another idea for you is tracking down all the temples. I have all power except for one.

I haven't focused on that part of the game yet, in either playthrough.

I'm doing a starborn playthrough. I lower it to be easy as possible so I get -20 xp grind through the story only, then grind out powers til 5th x through, now play on extreme. Or grind til 10 ng then play through the universes. Doing all that to a lowest level poss. Forcing me yo use powers more. Idk something different. I've grinded 2 characters to +100 before entering the unity this is the opposite.

Ballistic weapons are bait, you start with a Cutter, you'll eventually use Ember or an Orion. Then I of the 4 Particle weapons. Laser 4 is the only skill you need in the combat tree. Once you're in the 100s you'll realise that you only need Laser 4.

    • @Renfail

not for me. I prefer ballistic

Haha! Lot of people like their ballistic guns, ammunition and prefer those compared to Pew-Pew lasers - which they look down upon.
For any sci-fi game, I play with lasers only. Its hard to imagine in 2300s people still using 9mm pistols and shotguns. Highly unrealistic. Laser weapons are more fun for me.
But people like guns with physical rounds so game devs include them!
I also wish the devs would have been more creative with the weapons and included alternatives to same old ballistic and lasers from Fallout. They added EM weapons, but the options are so less and under powered, no one uses them. I wish we had 5-6 more categories, sci-fi weapons would have been cool. Oh well.
