Thank you for the black light tip. Also just want to say, I like a small closet because it means you can't go out and get so much stuff. Your challenge is helping me let go of stuff I don't use or can't find a space for. My house is less a mess. And as my husband keeps telling me, Less stuff means less to clean and more time for other things. I don't like when he is right but it is true and your 30 days are HELPING me so much to just let go. My closet is a whole day job that I plan to get to tomorrow. And I look forward to seeing what else I will be doing.
I did a full day of decluttering since I had Columbus day off and i got rid of about 10-15 shirts that I don't wear or do not look great on me. It felt so amazing to be able to donate all them since they were all pretty much new.
Thank you soooo much!! The way you've broken down a massive job into one task a day is so helpful! I'm a perfectionist and often overwhelm and frustrate myself trying to do EVERYTHING in one day. I was so overwhelmed yesterday I was literally in tears..you're motivating me to find a more productive less time consuming way of doing things before i have a serious mental breakdown...so thanks again
I've lived with tiny closets for years so now I'm so happy to have my big walk through. I broke a big decluttering rule last week - instead of culling from my closet, I bought more hangers. At least I have it all nice and organised by type and colour 😂

I remember years ago when you did this. I bought a black light years ago. And there is no going back. Lol. Once you see it you cant unsee it.
Backlighting your bathroom? Why would you torture yourself like that? If there are any men in your house, then you're guaranteed to have grossness. Ignorance is bliss!

Thanks for sharing that. Yes I'm definitely going to get me a black light. Im always cleaning everything for the same reason. I know germs spread and fly all over the air so I try to be on it as much as possible so I'm excited ( and scared!! Yikes!) to see the results.

Cas, your black light reminded me of what my husband's dad used to do. He would go around preaching and would stay at different hotels. The man would take a black light and shine it all over the bed. He said you'd be amazed how many dirty sheets he found. He would make the staff change the sheets, even though they insisted they were clean, lol! Yes, black lights will ruin your hotel stay, ha ha! I bet you're finding water that splashed up from the toilet seat being up when flushed. Hey, a house with kids, they're just not going to remember to close it, but at least you know it's your family's crap and not a stranger's, LOL! I'm terrible. 😁
Love the idea of asking yourself - if you saw this item in the store today, would you buy it? Yes, keep, no -it should go. Same idea with things that are just not flattering in one way or another. Great tips for making quick work of purging. Now, here is a question for you - If you know that a blouse would be stunning if you just added darts to the bust and would have a perfect fit, would you at least spend the time to get a quote from a seamstress to have darts put in to make that dress or blouse a keeper? Especially if it was a new never worn item that fits but needs a little alteration to be perfect on you? (price dependant of course)

Hi there! I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I love your videos. I have been trying to declutter for months. You remind me of me! Yep I'm that messy person! I find myself purging and cleaning up all the clutter each day. When I have already done the job previously I find another room to work on for the 15 minutes. I know the Good Shepherd thrift store thinks where is she getting all that stuff! LOL I love your humor and can relate to the shennanigans you get into!
the speckles on the wall behind the toilet could be from flushing with the lip open...when you flush with the lid open tiny maticles/mist come out od the toilet & go everywhere. thats why i dont keep toothbrushes near the toilet lol
Mandy Alley I was just about to comment this same thing! Luckily our sink is on the opposite wall from our toilet, but regardless, everyone knows in my house you put the lid down before you flush! People always assume it's because we have a dog and so few actually believe me when I tell them the actual reason smh. Ick.

Dusk Dawns i freak out if someone flushes with the lid open lol i tell everyone to close the lid, then flush. i cant stand when someone leaves the lid open, it 1)is nasty cuz of all the shit that flies out when you flush & 2)im notorious for knocking stuff into t he toilet so the lid needs to stay closed at all times unless youre using it lol
Mandy Alley ya, my medicine cabinet is behind the toilet. There have been MANY repurchased bottles of Excedrin and Aleve...and my toilet lid is only up after I've scrubbed it down lol. When my husband first moved in with me, I didn't care about the pile of dirty socks next to the bed or having to grab his coat that missed the hook when he came in, but let me walk in the bathroom and the seat was up (my bathroom at that time was carpeted! Rental house, but WHO DOES THAT???)...EWWWWWW! He would just stare at me like Bambi in headlights when I'd freak out on him lol. He tried arguing that the water gets sucked down, not up. Finally, one day after giving the whole bathroom a massive scrub down I made him come in and hover his hand over the toilet seat and flush. Yup. He never flushed without putting down the lid again lol!
Mandy Alley Yes, I think that is exactly what it is. I always shut the lid, but making others obviously isn't working!!! Lol

Oh, this was hilarious! I have never even heard of these lights, and absolutely no way am I buying one as I have three boys in the house (and one of them is only three years old!!). It has made me look at the toilet in a new way though... Up the wall?? Oh my goodness, what are the boys doing? (Fingers crossed that it is down to the boys...) I am so going to miss October, I am getting too used to looking forward to your daily podcasts. x

First off your Jacket is so cute. second I did not know a black light could do that we have a black light but for posters Shawn loves black light posters and got the kids to like them as well. but I almost bought a black light flashlight at walmart but it has multiple uses. As for the clothes, perhaps keep as least one outfit that you do not mind messing up for things like painting, washing the car, cleaning the Garage, stuff like that.
Forget about the closet. After watching the black light in the bathroom I feel like I have to go clean it NOW!

In Arizona we use black lights to look for scorpions in and around the house! I’ve used it at a rental house before to look for spots as well. I’ll have to do it at my house to see how good of a cleaning job I’m doing.
Thats kinda as you would say “crazy pants” but great tip for deep clean checking. Black light fun to be had.

Cass, change your hangers to the slim felt ones - I did and they shrunk my clothes rail by half! True. Means you can buy more clothes or a least move the ones you own about so you can see what you have. Love you. Amanda. Xx

I have a lot of stuff I can and should get rid of in my closet... I hate clothes shopping, but I need to do it, soon, and I need to make room for new stuff.
Blacklighting the bathroom is a cool idea. For real doing it in a hotel would be scary though

I am always using disinfectant wipes constantly in the bath. I do a total wipedown once a week. Men....

This one is hard. I've done it so many times over the years. I once hung onto some in case. The problem is the stuff I've gotten rid of for various reason that I cringe when I think about it as I can never replace them. Alas it needs to be done ✅

We take our black light and some cleaning products every time we go to a hotel. And if something shows up on the bedding!!!...we call them out. I'm grateful that usually the bedding is fine.
L James Yes, I do too hotels and public bathrooms really gross me out. Even after I clean I don't really feel like it is ever really that clean.

I have an idea for a rant session/story time: My SIL and her family came to visit and they tend to not supervise their child very well, so her clothes are stained due to her getting into things and eating without a bib. Then my husband needed to go to the bathroom and thought our boys sprayed all over the toilet but they hadn't been there - so it was our guests. What is the grossest thing you cleaned up after you had guests?

I know men and boys tend to miss, but I think the spots on the wall must come from flushing. It’s a hard and fast rule in my house to CLOSE THE LID before flushing!
I was wondering the same thing!
Even then there would be some splatter through the crack of the lid, but nowhere near the wall above the toilet tank.
So I did the closet declutter, got rid of several pieces, but a pair of jean shorts I was still not wanting to let go of. They look good from the front, but I need some time at the gym before I can leave the house in them because they're not so pretty from the back lol. I sheepishly put them back on the hanger, hung them back up in the closet, & they immediately fell off the hanger & onto the floor. Hahaha OK fine, I'll get rid of them hahaha!
If the lid isn't completely closed before flushing, the water (& content) is thrown several feet. Check out the Mythbusters episode.
Concerning that black light, you might want to take your mop and cleaning rags and wash the floor and wall down with some cleaner and bleach.

Every time I use the toilet, I spray disinfectant around the base and use toilet paper to wipe up whatever my husband may have done and flush before I go about my business. I was feeling very proud of myself until you pointed that black light at the walls! Yikes! Gonna have to order one now. 😳

Im sooo getting that flashlight!!! I have 2 little boys that have a hard time with aiming :/ In terms of splashes on ceilings or upper walls etc - Ive read that when you flush your toilet, it can send splashes up to 10 ft?!? I always shut my toilet to flush and then if anything, wipe the seat lid when i do the daily bathroom tidy....
I bought a blacklight, because we have 6 cats and one of the males likes to "own" things. I made a video but like you I found it hard to show. My youngest son was a teenager at the time and he told me not to blacklight his room. I don't think he was talking about wee

Oh man gotta get a black light so I can show my husband how much mess boys make in the bathroom. Could you imagine pulling out a black light in a public restroom, so grosse. It doesn't just illuminate urine though. Any body fluids would glow, wouldn't they? CSI teams use black lights for blood, etc.
