In the 60's and 70's the durability of the tent floor material was a consideration. There were no footprints. Marketing took over and SLOWLY the concept of making us buy a footprint took over. I have never needed one except in Baja California Sur where the cactus spines are substantial and only thick canvas will do. I will have nothing to do with a fitted footprint from a tent manufacturer. It is rediculous.
I love the unbiased reviews you provide! I also appreciate the variety of equipment you review which allowed me to make quite a few purchases based on what you have provided! Cheers and thank you for providing your time on these videos!
I watch a TH-camr who’s been testing this tent. He says it’s good in the wind and he’s done a few shorts in the rain. It’s looking good. He’s a hardcore wildcamper. It’s a nice looking tent. I like the colour and 1.95 kgs for a 2 man tent is great. I’m really considering getting one. His channel is Andywardle btw.
I absolutely love that door design. It gives you a very nice opening. And due to the fact it comes to a point, the door rolls up into this small thing. Even just hanging, it's a LOT less problematic than a regular tent door because it's so easily brushed aside.
Another great review, Luke. As always, thanks for being very informative, detailed and honest. Please know that you and all who were affected by Helene are in our prayers. Just an FYI, I was just on the FireMaple website (once again spending more money that I'll ever admit to my wife... lol) and I noticed that this tent is presently on sale. Tent AND footprint for $199.99. Maybe they saw your review and made a cost adjustment. Hey, maybe they'll even throw in a Sharpie to write the name on the storage bag.
Luke, Just camped in this tent last night. I traditionally a hammock camper but enjoyed the experience of the tent. had a great camp. I like the sound of 2.0!
Hi Luke, great video. Seems it’s the first attempt to produce a tent for the budget of the market. I don’t think It is a bad attempt at the first time. I can’t wait to see the waterproofing episode of it just to make sure that it can stand up to the worse of the weather. Great video, very informative strength and honour.
I have their gas lantern and winter gloves that are quality, this tent seems to have a few issues tho, for their first tent im impressed and they will only get better in the future I'm sure 👍
The door reminds me of the Lightfighter, which I've never had an issue with. The amount of mesh is impressive but those vents at the top are concerning. I'm expecting it to leak in a wind driven rain situation. But I guess that's why we carry tarps.
$20 for a footprint isn't that much considering other companies charge $60-$80. I also like that the footprint sticks out into the vestibule to keep some of your things out of the mud.
Hahaha, there are people out there that have been reviewing this tent for months. YKK is just a brand. There are plenty of quality zippers out there that work just as well. It's not a deal breaker.
Not sure if its an Australia thing only but the ground sheet is free when I looked 11am east coast Auz time. Pricey but if waterproof not so bad. I don't care if the name is not on the bag I don't have many tents.
My Featherstone Peridot is very similar and has a similarly deep bathtub floor. Getting in and out of it can be a pain. The Featherstone Granite is also very similar but is a different color and has a shallower bathtub floor. I'm happy with the Peridot, but I wish I had bought the Granite.
For the price they should include the ground sheet ykk zippers and fix the little things like the door way and vents. But it looks like a really good tent. Let's see a rain test next.
I'm in South Africa so the big brand names are bloody expensive, I've been using Naturehike and Fire Maple gear for a few years now and love them. But Fire Maple is normally my cooking kit but love the fact that they tried
While that totally makes sense for your needs, labeling the storage bag is unnecessary for most people. The average person uses maybe 2 different tents max each year for at least 5-10 years? Everything I own in a storage bag is a different color
Thanks for the review Luke buy your 💯 correct it’s basically the same tent as my naturehike mongar 2 and the mongar comes with a ground sheet for a hundred plus dollars less
Strength and honour... love it. Thanks for your input on these products, yes I believe that's what has happened along with most things in this world... 3 company's that makes everything lol.. keep on mate. Very useful info u provide. 👍
Sorry. Wasn't sure where else to post this so I thought I would ask it on the latest video with a Firemaple product. They have a cook pot with a built in heat exchanger that supposedly is super efficient thats on sale for like $20 over Christmas. Would love your opinion.
The way the fly doors open from corner to peak is the exact same design as MSR tents; very few tents have doors that open in this manner. I had thought maybe because MSR had a patent on that design. Anyway, that design is much more superior than tents that have doors opening from the centre of the vestibule .
I agree with previous comment it should come with the ground sheet for that price. I am a fan of fire maple gear. All of my gear from them has been great. If this tent is as good as everything else I’ve had experience with from fire maple it should be a good one.
You brought up a very good point :-) same manufacturer just put a different label on it :-( I used to haul steel and delivered to a plant in Tennessee that made lawn tractors. 5 different lines made same mower only difference was each mower was painted different color and had different logos :-( soo no matter what brand you bought it was all the same quality and manufacture just a different color :-(
im always a fan of black mesh. seems easier to see thru when your inside. also have you tried any "nearzero" products? i have 2 of their tents n im super impressed. got caught in a thunderstorm in their 1p tent where it poured four 4 hrs. no tarp and it was bone dry inside. thats what prompted me to buy the 3p tent soon after.
I discovered this tent a few days ago via an email from Firemaple and considered letting you know about it but decided against it due to the price. That being said, it is a pretty nice tent with good features. I don't get why these manufacturers fail to label their products clearly or why most use fabric ties instead of compression strap. At $240 without a footprint, surely they could throw in a compression or lashing strap for a buck or two. As for the vents, they could simply install one zipper on one of the sides of the vent.....not a big or expensive deal.
I had to wonder if you had a hate on for everything Fire Maple. I really enjoy your reviews. Interesting how your measurements are smaller than their posted size. Great points made here, keep up the great work. Thanks for being tough and objective.
I'm very neutral on this one. 2 downsides however......vents and price. Lets see how testing comes out. I just purchased the Ayamaya 3-4 person tunnel tent. Very impressed. Much bigger than I thought. Price was awesome at $104 and it comes with a footprint. Apparently the last one. New models coming out in May-June next year.
I like Fire Maple stoves. But that tent is huge as packed, and heavy. Nothing makes it stand out from a dozen other tents almost exactly like it. Also, Big Agnes and Nemo do not include adjustable stake-out points on their lighter tents either, which is a really big peeve of mine!
Luke, you losing it man, no name on the bag. feel thats a YOU problem cause im not sure about you but i dont own another baby crap yellow tent that i may mix up with other baby crap yellow tents, if you could adjust a vent from inside it wouldn't be waterproof would it, is this the first time you have seen this style of vent?? i dont think so! and you disappointed me on not moaning about knots on tent peg pulls lmao
Biggest issue is 47 inches wide. For most full size adults we need a 25 inch mattress to be comfortable. This tent cant handle two of those mattresses. Second issue is price to weight. Most of the big name lightweight tents keep the weight to about a pound a person. This tent is twice that weight. Granted i get the price. This tent is good for folks getting out ince a year. If your going to really backpack get a better tent, and sleep system. A bad night sleep will make a person quit backpacking.
Well it’s $240 for $269 dollars I can get a name brand durston x-mid 2 that has a floor of 52” x 92” and a weight less than 2lbs… this is not free stand but I like trekking poles.
I will still stubbornly never accept a tent that can't take 2 - 30" pads as a 2 person tent on principle alone, even though no woman I'm with would need one that size. Even worse is their website says 55" and you get 47". Interior dimensions on websites should be very specific and identified as inside or outside. Them calling it featherweight at 4.3 lbs without the ground sheet is stretching the term. Still, for a budget tent, not bad....particularly if you don't have the need for UL, though quite bulky.
$240 for a 4.3 lb 2-person tent. I got my Copper Spur UL2 for $270 back in April '24. You can get an MSR Hubba Hubba 2 person right now for $275 (Oct 2024). A few months ago, the Mountain Hardwear Nimbus 2 was in the low $300s. So, any savvy shopper is going to get a premium tent from one of the major brands for only $20 - $50 more than this Fire Maple tent. If I really want to save money, I'm dropping down to the Paria Bryce 2P, or equivalent. That sacrifices very little performance, but now I'm
Does Fire Maple actually manufacture anything, or are they more of a company that sources items (or designs them for sale) from other unnamed manufacturers. Isn't that a Naturehike Monger copy / clone. Firemaple is a clone making expert with decent marketing. They absolutely stole the Jetboil stove and sold it and still do on Ali Express for about 3/4 of the Jetboil price. They discovered if you up price Americans buy them thinking they are getting a "better" product.
The ground sheet should come with it for the price

The Featherstone Granite is very similar, has a shallower bathtub floor, includes a ground sheet and costs over $100 less.
I wonder if they just updated their website as a result of this review. The Tent + footprint are 6 bucks cheaper than the tent only, that's so weird.
@@deejaymaltait's highly likely, this channel has a lot of viewers.
The ground sheet should *always* come with a tent!

They have made some good products mainly stoves...... so lets see ! Hope they continue to do a great job !
Luke, Just camped in this tent last night. I traditionally a hammock camper but enjoyed the experience of the tent. had a great camp. I like the sound of 2.0!
It's a nice looking tent. Even the golden colour isn't too shabby. But NatureHike win for the price alone.
You can use line lock hooks, and some cordage to make an adjustable stake out points
Definitely the man whose videos ill watch before buying a tent.. good work

The fact that they charge at all is the problem when many of them actually require one to be completely functional ...
My first idea, seeing the title, was "GEEZ! A Helikon-Tex tent?"
I think for a first try / start it is much better thought out than some of the tents of some famous brands
I like that tent. But it's a little expensive. Maybe I can catch it on sale. Thank you for sharing Luke.🤗
@@crucialharpy101 Get the Naturehike it's the same tent just a $100 or more cheaper
I have several Firemaple products, I've picked them up over the past couple years. I cannot say I'm impressed with any of them.
Hahaha, there are people out there that have been reviewing this tent for months. YKK is just a brand. There are plenty of quality zippers out there that work just as well. It's not a deal breaker.
Thanks for sharing, yeah they can definitely do a few tweaks to make this a great tent. Pretty pricey I feel
It definitely has the same feeling as the near zero dynalite as well

I think an 8" bathtub floor would be the least of your issues if you have a mobility issue and you're using a tent.
I like a lot of Fire Maple stuff. Looks like a good first effort.
I really like the look of this tent and. I'm looking forward to a good test video 😊

Thank you, and it's on sale for 200$!
I'm still waiting for you to do more with the Mountain Hardwear Hunker 1.
I want to see how it handles rain and condensation before I say anymore on the tent.
fire maple has a good reputation, they are maybe getting a foot in the tent market.
the main question would be: what can this tent do "better" than some of the alternatives? what does it offer?
I discovered this tent a few days ago via an email from Firemaple and considered letting you know about it but decided against it due to the price. That being said, it is a pretty nice tent with good features. I don't get why these manufacturers fail to label their products clearly or why most use fabric ties instead of compression strap. Don't forget to smash that like button folks
OHHHH YEAH!!!! 🍻
Not even funny…
At $240 it’s only ok. The Teton MT ultra seems to be a better deal. Or the featherstone tent.
Looks like the same pole design as the Lone Rider adv tent.
Most people don’t have twenty tents to confuse with each other. I don’t think having the company name printed multiple times on the bag is a problem.
They need to redesign and move the vent
I had to wonder if you had a hate on for everything Fire Maple. I really enjoy your reviews. Interesting how your measurements are smaller than their posted size. Great points made here, keep up the great work. Thanks for being tough and objective.

Here in Canada they are on the same website
