You guys are just so cute! Many will come to check out the car reviews, but trust me, it is your chemistry that keeps people coming back to your videos even when they don't need the info on cars. Keep the chitchat and banters going!
New Mini offers 3 years of free maintenance. I've had 3 Mini Coopers leased for 4 years, and they were all problem free, with zero costs for maintenance for the first three years each. The third Mini I leased, I bought it out after year 4 when the leasing was up, and now it's going on its 6th year, all problem free. This car makes mundane daily drives going back and forth to work, very enjoyable and fun. Life is too short not to enjoy life, even when going to work. I actually look forward to commuting in the mornings.
In WhatCar's (UK magazine) 16,000 person car owner survey where owners had to rate their car brand reliability Lexus unsurprisingly came in first, but surprisingly Mini came in near the top of the list as one of the most reliable car brands. Here's the list: 1. Lexus (98.7) 2. Dacia (97.3) 3. Hyundai (97.1) 4. Suzuki (97.1) 5. Mini (97) 6. Toyota (97) 7. Mitsubishi (96.9) 8. Mazda (95.9) 9. Kia (95.8) 10. MG (95.7) 11. Citroen (95.6) 12. Skoda (95) 13. BMW (94.7) 14. Honda (94.2) 15. Tesla (93.9) 16. Renault (93.7) 17. Seat (93.3) 18. Audi (92.8) 19. Volvo (92.3) 20. VW (91.4) 21. Jag (90.1) 22. Mercedes (89.6) 23. Peugeot (89.6) 24. Vauxhall (89.6) 25. Porsche (89.4) 26. Alpha Romeo (86.5) 27. Ford (86.2) 28. Nissan (86.2) 29. Land Rover (82.5) 30. Fiat (82) I will add a small mention for Porsche here. The Porsche Macan was rated in the survey as the most reliable small SUV from any brand, but as a brand Porsche scored more poorly because the Boxter/Cayman was rated as so unreliable. Porsche should just stop selling their cheaper car line and stick to the 911, Macan and Cayenne.
Your reviews are absolutely terrific guys! Happened upon your channel a month ago and haven’t missed a vid since. Informative and fun as well….just excellent, thank you from Texas!
Thx for another great review. In recent years I have twice looked into buying a Mini , and passed both times. Mini USA does not offer blind-spot monitoring on any model, and as a grandparent that's an essential piece of kit. It is a mystifying decision to me.

I’m a big fan of Mini. Full disclosure, my first car was a 2 door 1970 Mini Traveller (van/estate). I love their iconic look. I know many (really 3) repeat buyers. But after warranty…? I would never recommend. Especially with their CVT. They are cute and look expensive, but with BMW parts/maintenance prices… they ought to be. I still love them though. Thanks for the video.
We used to own a 2017 C-Max Energi with about 32km of range. It’s more than enough as we’d go months without putting in any gas. With nightly charging and regen, we could easily go 3000+ km on “one tank of gas”. My wife’s commute was 35 km, and she’d make 8 to 10 trips per week. Too bad more PHEVs don’t exist, I think they’re the perfect vehicles.
I think one of the best PHEV is the Kia Niro. Efficient and pragmatic. And that's coming from someone who is sceptical of Kia engines(the 1.6 litre seems to be less of an issue than the bigger siblings).
I own a 13 C-Max Energi and in the summer get real world 35km range, and they only have a 7kWh battery with ~5.5kWh usable. Really wonder how mini manages to get worse range with almost twice the battery capacity.
I had a 2017 CooperS 3 door. The thing I loved the most was the switchgear. The toggle switches were so easy to understand and use. I also loved the nice heavy steering. My gripe about my current GTI is that I find the steering too light. Give me a GTI with toggle switches and MINI handling, and I’d have the perfect car.
Mini Cooper is super cute and love British racing green 😍 but you know, I’d go with reliable Toyota Corolla Cross in dark green instead 😂 don’t get me wrong, if I were rich I’d love to have a Mini Cooper in my stable, and yea, maybe the Countryman
Regarding the heritage look and all of the big round parts of the dash - that’s why I would buy one. I love that style. The chrome switches! I love all of it.
I got the first one of these sold in Ottawa back in 2017 (2018 MY). Loved the car, but the range sucked…. 25km on a warm summer day, 17 on a cold winter day. However, because I live so centrally and close to work and shops, I oftentimes spent weeks in the summer running strictly on electric power. Just to demonstrate that we sometimes overestimate our range needs. If it had closer to 75-80 km range, I would have kept it at the end of the lease.
You are right, while I would want more range, some do short trips each day and are back and forth to home where they can keep it charged up. A follower has a Wrangler 4xe and it has 35 km/22 miles of EV range, he says it is plenty for his daily drive and he has a clean drive almost everyday.
Hi Zack & Andrea, I suspect Mini has an exclusivity agreement in place with Apple that’s why still no Android Auto! Remember the car is a symbol of Great Britain not just the English Zack. So the Scot’s are also represented by the Union Jack rear lights! Best Clive
On my MINI Cooper F60, i have retrofit a Raydeen Blind Spot Detection(BSD) system under the rear numberplate and it works well. It also gives Rear Cross Traffic Alerts. The model # BSS2LPBC .
Great review -- sad that MINI didn't make a real hybrid (not mild and that one's still not coming to North America) for the 2025/U25 Countryman but how come you guys never reviewed an Audi A3 e-tron Sportback? I'd think that would be a perfect competitor to the Countryman SE.
I owned a 2022 phev countryman, I know there is a way you can config to run max ev mode as default option. And yes other drive mode will get reset every time you start the engine.
Is that an optical illusion, or does the rear wheel have really aggressive negative camber? I have seen countryman with power lift gate, is that a trim level thing ?
This colour looks like an army helmet. The nemesis of this car is pot holes with all the technology under the floor boards and so close to the ground. I'm not sure how the average owner could jack it up not alone get under there? This car is mini on range and interior space but not externally smaller then the average sedan. It resembles a wind up emergency radio with all the bells and fancy tail lights.
Was really looking forward to the 4 other vehicles to consider. I want an AWD Phev SUV but don’t need a big vehicle and I want a heat pump so I don’t have to use fuel for 5 months for warmth. It would be good to add that info in PHEV reviews. It’s just not worth the premium cost of a PHEV if you are having to use the gas engine for 5 months just to get heat.
Great Review. However I have seen different reviews and owners of this new facelift 2023 Mini Countryman PHEV and those reviews inform a EV range of 30-32 miles. Even with the previous version (with 7KWh battery) the range were 20-24- miles. So, I'd like to know how you determine that EV range? Still thanks for the review! Was great!!!
It's kinda funny how BMW can't figure out how update the classic "new" mini they invented. British Leyland had the same issue and ended up selling in essence the same car for 40 years. And it wasn't for the lack trying, but rather incompetence and lack of funds. It's always a problem to figure out how to replace an iconic design, can be done successfully but it comes with risks. On this model: the drive mode situation is crazy. Interesting hybrid system. 8 litres per 100km from a hybrid of that size is laughable(is there even a gas savings with the hybrid system?). Want a plugin the same size? Get the Niro PHEV. Cheaper and more efficient. May not be as fun to drive, but is it really worth the extra money?
Great job guys. I would not touch this vehicle with a ten foot pole. Just too complicated and trust this brand. What were they thinking. Sorry but is not a winner.
Not correct - bought Sage PHEV green brown leather Sept 2022. At dealer it was set to automatically start in e MAX DRIVE then it switches to petrol, and back to MAX e drive when battery is charged. I get between 46 - 56 km (in town).. I also had automatic tail gate, wireless charging, head up display and electric seats.. Beautiful car to drive and interior.. Love the traditional iconic look of interior.. The display is awesome to use.. screen colours etc so lovely.. Sadly my car has been broken into and is a right off.. Becuase there was no alarm!!! Told yesterday the new mini 2023 has lost the electric seats, and wireless charging! But added an alarm and the electric tailgate back.. Why would they get rid of what is now common expected features for new cars.. so disappointed! I just want my car back! Anyone got one to sell me?
Germans do complexity well. No worries on long term reliability. What could go wrong? And that HUD! Did they get that out of a vending machine at the airport?
So... how far does the average Canadian drive on a daily basis? i suspect that there are quite a few people who as long as they can charge overnight could make a tank last two months with a vehicle like this. Would i consider it? No, i went fully electric in 2020.
That 17 mile range is about the same as Subaru's ill-fated 1st attempt at a PHEV with the Crosstrek. It had very low sales. I suspect this Mini may have the same fate.
I own a 2013 Ford C-Max Energi, it has a ~5.5kWh usable battery capacity, and even after a decade worth of degradation still gets 30-35km of real world EV range in the summer. Really wonder why it is that Mini gets worse range with almost twice the battery Capacity.
Very good review thank you. I disagree with your thoughts about car shows and seeing the new Minis! I agree they always looked so good, so Mini but the latest Models model has been destroyed. Classic BMW move, what do you do when you have a great looking car? Let the design geeks get their retro hands on it and destroy it.
No Mini when it weighs nearly 2 tons! If your cup o' tea, own and enjoy before the warranty expires. Mini is extraordinary high for OEM parts and dealership service. And if you're thinking long term owner and DIY service, forget it. Comical analogy, but a ten years aged Mini for example an 80k maintenance, add a brake job at an authorized dealer.... exceeds the value of the entire car. Cheaper to leave the keys in it and have it stolen. Lol
I have owned 3 MINI's - 2 2 door hardtops and one Countryman S ALL4. This year alone I have dumped over $6000 in the Countryman with less that 70,000 miles on it. I love the drive of MINIs but sadly am jumping ship due to the fact that the maintenance is iINSANE after the 3 year standard that is included and it (my model) takes premium gas (the dealership recommends Sunoco or Shell top of the line premium 93 gas (CHAAA-CHING) to keep the engine happy.) My most recent $1700 cost was the sunroof drain clogged and rain overflowed into the car passanger side floor and into an electrical board. A sunroof drain seems like a simple design so the fact that it overflows into an electrical curcuit board is unexcusable IMHO - just bad design. My cute, fun to drive car is now a brick with electrical corrosion. Sadly, I would steer clear of this brand unless you don't mind being on a first name basis with the MINI service folks and spending the same price in maintenance as you did for the car...
Hi, your review is ok but quite inaccurate, the range is 30-35 miles and at worst in the winter 20 miles. You can set the car up so it always starts in battery mode so toy don’t have to. Set it up every time you get in the car. you said there are no safety features which is also wrong, it has auto stop front collision warning and pedestrian warning system. The drive modes are very easy to use not at all complicated as you explained. There’s 3 modes and low med high for each mode. You were correct with the fact its not 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel drive can’t be chosen at all. It’s only 4 x 4 when its in boost mode. It’s also very thirsty when driving just with the petrol engine. Great fun to drive.
The rear indicators are confusing. Because of the design, the right indicator points left. I'm not sure that's wise. It's reminds me of the puzzle with colours written as words but in another colour, red is written in blue font. It messes with your brain.
Thanks for the review. Had I even considered this vehicle, after watching this review I would not purchase this car. I really do not understand why anyone would want to buy this! I have always considered the Mini's instrument panel crazy, and this one is even worse.
So many buttons and modes, I bet that's partially why the range is so scarce. lol Honestly, why auto manufacturers can't just revert to the old principle, KISS(No pun intended, said Kiss Kiss). That's right; Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Essentially the Mini is English, the Germans brought the Rover group which owned the original Mini brand, Zack jokes about taking away the Mini look inside but if you did that it wouldn't be Mini but just another boring BMW so might as well buy a X2, we own an original British made Rover Mini Cooper S and owned 6 BMW Minis, we have since 2001 witnessed the demise of the Mini throughout the years as it becomes more and more BMW, as you say the damn English gave the Germans the Mini that's the only problem and fault here!
You guys are just so cute! Many will come to check out the car reviews, but trust me, it is your chemistry that keeps people coming back to your videos even when they don't need the info on cars. Keep the chitchat and banters going!

energy harvesting self charge hybrid is the way to go
Zach sounds frustrated and looks like he'd rather be watching the game.🤔😂
29 KMs EV range ??? Oh Dear. Every thing about this car with one exception is mini. The price. What poor value...
The rear indicators are confusing. Because of the design, the right indicator points left. I'm not sure that's wise. It's reminds me of the puzzle with colours written as words but in another colour, red is written in blue font. It messes with your brain.
Price !!!! Crazy😡
He’s giving old man yells at cloud
I’ve been told this is a 3rd car for most.
Damn English! Oh you’re in you tube trouble now. 😀
His last name is as English as it gets. I'm guessing he was poking fun at his kin.
missing safety items definitely deal breaker
Thanks for the review. Had I even considered this vehicle, after watching this review I would not purchase this car. I really do not understand why anyone would want to buy this! I have always considered the Mini's instrument panel crazy, and this one is even worse.
So many buttons and modes, I bet that's partially why the range is so scarce. lol Honestly, why auto manufacturers can't just revert to the old principle, KISS(No pun intended, said Kiss Kiss). That's right; Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Essentially the Mini is English, the Germans brought the Rover group which owned the original Mini brand, Zack jokes about taking away the Mini look inside but if you did that it wouldn't be Mini but just another boring BMW so might as well buy a X2, we own an original British made Rover Mini Cooper S and owned 6 BMW Minis, we have since 2001 witnessed the demise of the Mini throughout the years as it becomes more and more BMW, as you say the damn English gave the Germans the Mini that's the only problem and fault here!
please watch the rest, good joke, lol.
Why always add "just" to the prices?
Looked at one, range is pitiful.
Damned English
No … no …. Sorry guys, but this is a joke. You just forgot to yell, “April Fools Day”.
No Safety Features?? No thanks !!!!
I came out better buying my mini Cooper EV.
