    As someone who really only had negative experience with the church, it’s nice to be able to watch this and sate my curiosity, I may not be a “Christian” but I do know the message of the Bible is a beautiful one and not just one people should throw away cause of the past. Thank you guys, for making studying the Bible a positive thing again.

      Hey, I don't attend church anymore but I still consider myself a Christian. The narcissistic competitive nature of church leadership and the "select set" of their followers was always elite, in the church at least! I'm too old for that shit of having to explain myself for asking questions.

    a little over year ago i became so on fire for God, digging deeper into the bible and spent as much time as i could praying and talking with God but i was told by my mentor there would come troubles by getting closer with God. it sounded so silly to me and i would foolishly say “the devil himself couldn’t separate me from God.” i would pray for the strength of Job but a day came where an old..acquaintance came along and she knew my weaknesses, well any man’s true weakness, better than anyone else and she was a slippery slope i couldn’t avoid. it was almost like all of the fire in my heart was put out over a weeks time and i just, well, threw in the towel. it’s crazy how strong Job was in his faith. even i, knowing that i cannot comprehend the true powers of God but do know it is real, find myself struggling to even show my face to God out of shame and embarrassment, which i’m beginning to realize more and more lately is that it’s really pride i’m dealing with. working on my relationship with God again and i cannot help but to look towards Job as an example of true faith, it’s truly amazing. you guys have good chemistry and it made this completely enjoyable and i’m just halfway through it. about that song by Reliant K - Getting Into You, reminded me of when my mentor told me getting closer with God would bring troubles (temptations and such). i would’ve never believed how truly difficult vices and old habits could be to ignore or how much more in my face, apparent, they would become, the more i strengthened my relationship with God. its a beautiful song and reminds me of a song by Exiting the Fall - Father. God be with you both.

      If I do something naughty, god will turn his back on me, my idol will be disappointed enough to send me to hell to be abused for all eternity, burning in agony, with no relief. But..my dick rules my morals so, meh, nuts to god, let's go get some!!
      I'm not sure what aspect of the story is more sad, in all honesty.

    • @ruesylvester
      @ruesylvester 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't understand why your mentor would say that getting close with God is a bad thing. The whole point is to be more virtuous, isn't it? Is it because temptation will follow you the more you follow God? The whole point of sin and temptation is that it's separation from God. You don't need God to find temptation, it's literally everywhere you go. Life will have its tests and tribulations no matter much of a saint or sinner you are. You will find yourself trying to shake off old habits, or cutting off people or things that no longer serve you. I would argue that being more in touch with yourself, your intuition and God is a GOOD thing.

    • @TristanAD_
      @TristanAD_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ruesylvester well i kindly suggest you read what i said again, my mentor never said it’s a bad thing to draw closer to God, just that it brings troubles. i’ll refer you to one verse my mentor would cite, 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”. i believe wholeheartedly the devil knows our vices and our weaknesses, and uses them against us. that is what he was warning me about. he wasn’t suggesting i should he worried or afraid of living God, or even advising that i shouldn’t because it was dangerous. he was just saying that with coming closer with God, you pose a greater threat to the devil and his dealings. just by trying to live your life according to the Spirit, there is an untold amount of people you may have a dramatic affect on in their life and change them for the better. i agree, being in tune with God is 100% a good thing. there’s a song i like that goes “if loving you is putting me in danger, than i never want to be safe.” God be with you bro.

    For the question being asked at 3:05:30, I once heard someone say "Just because people lie about the Bible doesn't mean the Bible lies about God" and I feel like that encapsulates the heart of the matter. People do evil in God's name, but that doesn't mean God wants it or approves of it

    This is so important to me, especially because I'm not a Christian. I have a friend who kinda shits on organized religion but especially Christianity. Now, it's usually when there's news of children being abused by priests and stuff, so I get it. But it's discuaging to listen to someone condense everything down to the actions of the few.
    It's stuff like this that gives me a greater appreciation for something I would ortherwise not really be able to understand.

    • @kakhakheviashvili6365
      @kakhakheviashvili6365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every organized institution has one very serious weakness, allowing evil people to exploit it. That weakness being certain reputation and power coming with certain achievements. That's why there happen horrible things you've mentioned. Also people focusing on that, while ignoring literally every other institution, that allows adults being alone with children for long periods of time, riddled with the same crime - doesn't help.
      Bible never claims that everyone, who has position in Church, is a saint. Furthermore, it warns about numbers of false shepherds increasing as times go on. So it's an issue, yes, and exactl;y because of that issue (and many others) we, humans, need to be saved.
      BTW, i'm not even Catholic, and can criticize some practices, which i deem un-Biblical, that lead to increased numbers of such horrible acts, but let's be real, even with every improvement i'd see as positive, there still would be predators, like they are in kindergardens, schools, orphanages, pediatric hospitals and etc. I don';t think we should advocate for all of those institutions to cease to exist, just because those positions, that help improve lives of millions, can be taken over by evil individuals.

I fell away from the faith and don’t know if I’ll ever be able to turn back as I’m comfortable not knowing what is out there and just living my life to be the best human I can be. Isaiah spoke really beautifully about stewardship of nature and how our choices affect other people, and I wish there would be more emphasis on stuff like that in mainstream christian discourse. I remember as a child going to a supermarket and buying my own bible because christianity was constantly shoved down my throat and I wanted to fully understand the book it was all about. But I think it comes down to humans just accepting what their told to believe, tho this subject is a weird one considering children get indoctrinated before they learn to question the world.

    I love these guys and I think healthy discussion concerning God and the Bible is welcomed by God and helps our understanding of our faith. However and I'm sure this goes without saying but as a person who has been a Christian for the last 40 years take what they both say with a grain of salt. While they get most things correct some of their ideas and opinions that they sometimes state as fact is way off base and not true or biblical in the least. I say this only to new Christians and people on the fence. Again just be careful and make sure to read your Bible, do your own research, read biblical scholars and compare and contrast so you get the actual objective truth God is trying to convey through his word. Again I say this with love and respect for both of these gentlemen because they are extremely intelligent and beautiful human beings!! 🙏💖✝️

    Something interesting about Job that is often kind of glossed over is Job 1:6. God apparently just assembles his angles for meetings like it’s a corporate office or something which is weird enough to think about. Then add in the fact that Satan apparently is either invited to the meetings, or at least is told when and where they’ll be. And at least on one occasion, but perhaps frequently, he showed up to the meeting. Angels don’t appear to be omnipresent or omniscient or anything, so God either invited him or let him know about this meeting. Weird to think about because I always imagine them to be so separated, but apparently they’ll just strike up a conversation all casual like. Anyway, excited for the next episode, wish this was weekly.

    Heyo, I was born Catholic and have since… separated myself from Christianity, especially it’s organized form. I’ve leaned toward Norse paganism and Judaism and every which way until just really deciding that I think it’s all pretty nifty. I really used to love reading the Bible as a kid tho, the Old Testament particularly, and as I’ve grown I’ve kinda just moved away from the Bible. But I’m getting back into it now with the same kinda vigor and fascination that I have for other religious texts, because I’m not being forced. This kind of analysis right here? I love it. So thanks you guys, this is content even a non-specific religious person can enjoy.

    2:56:50 Paradise Lost is a great example of how to handle him. He is humanized, but definitely not a "good guy". You can understand his reasoning, but you comprehend his delusion and lies. I do agree with Wendi regarding his take that most people misunderstand the purpose behind his depiction however. Lucifer is portrayed there as tempting, relatable, and in some ways grey not because he has good in him, but because evil is seductive and the Devil is sly.

    I am new to both of your channels, and love this discussion. I think the major theme in the story of Job (as you said) is just surrendering to your faith in God no matter how bad things get. It's easy for humans to think of religions as "transactional" in that "person prays to God and gets good things" or conversely "if a person does bad things then bad things should happen to them". So when bad things happen to good people the first inclination is to ask "what did I do to deserve this?" I was taught that evil was brought into the world by man's sin and this Earthly life is a battleground for our souls. If God would stop every bad situation then it would diminish the value of free will but also bad situations are opportunities for good people to exercise their free will to do good in the world. There are many situations in which our free will is the choice between relying on the spiritual self or giving into the animal in which we inhabit. An old priest once told me, "The measure of a man is how well he controls the animal in which he lives."

    Ok, maybe it was a while since you've read Book of Job, guys, but wasn't the point of his friends' speeches that Job is suffering because of his sins? They try to make him confess in his sins in different ways, but overall each one of them thinks that what happened to Job is a fruit of his sins, and that he should admit it, confess and repent. And Job grows increasingly frustrated with them, because he knows he didn't sin (and he was correct in that). And that banter with different arguments continued for too long until God told all of them that it's basically not their job (heh) to question God and His actions. They can't even comprehend things that are on their nose, let alone God Himself as well as His actions.
    Book of Job is actually a lesson that bad things may happen to good people, and if you gave your life to Him, you just have to accept, that sometime you can be used as an instrument to improve condition of others. And that in the end of the day God Himself will tend to His suffering children, delivering them.
    It ultimately challenges the idea of "if you do bad, bad things happen to you, if you do good - good things happen to you". And while that simplistic idea can be true to some limited extent, it's definitely not how material universe, Earth, works. Especially, well, since everyone sinned and deserves death, so by the simplistic idea i've mentioned above, everyone deserves bad things happening to them by default. So even as perfect of a human as Job was, deserves punishment, and thus salvation can come not through good deeds and rituals, but through grace and mercy of God.

    Job was the first book of the bible I read all the way through when I was younger and it's always been my favorite book,what from it back then was we will go through some crap but just hang on an their will be blessings better then what you already had. And it also shows how "satan" or principalities can use people in our lives to not only influence you but to get you to go against God too. ( Like how he used Jobs wife)
    This book has soooo much in it tho. So I pray everyone gets blessed with curiosity and unpacks it ❤

    Hey there, love you guys, love the enthusiasm and the positivity. I’m not a religi boi, but i find it quite interesting. I went through a religi search, and was left wanting. Believe what ever make it easier for you to sleep what ever comfort you may choose to lie down with. I personally think that religion is just proto science. It was man’s first attempt to give reason to chaos but like most often first attempts worst attempt. They got lazy and stopped asking why and just started accepting.now all That being said I’m about is going to be offensive, and i mean it that way.What im about to say may be seen as sacrilegious, and I find it totally moral and justified to say that if god does exits and I’m “destined” to live with him eternally in heaven. He better be ready for me to box I’m up for eternity cause I definitely have beef and yes even god can catch these hands

    I actually really enjoy these twos conversations about Christianity. I was raised roman catholic and had an awful experience the whole time. Me and my mom both leaving the church, she still considers herself Christian but not affiliated with any churches, and while still some of my beliefs connect to Christianity, i consider myself just pegan as i am just kinda my own thing.
    I am still very interested in Christian beliefs and scripture, even the parts i dont believe at all, and so often if feels like the people talking about it are trying to attack me or convert me. But these two just talk about the scriptures and their thoughts and interpretations. Which is very interesting and insightful, but never feel like im being preeched to or pressured like they think they are sayint i need to act a certain way, just them sharing their way of living. I dont know if that makes sense

    To me Job shows how our understanding of God is so beyond what we can comprehend that we have no place to question his will. His will, his providence is perfect even in our suffering. I also think it teaches that our suffering measured against all of time, all of space and all of reality is insignificant in comparison. When we are in eternity our blip of time and anything bad that happened will be so distant from us it will feel like a dream. Just like something that happened to us when we were 5 years old and we barely remember it even if it at the time it seemed terrible but now when I'm 35 it means nothing. That is what the book of Job teaches me.

    So.... the story of Balaam and his donkey is one of my favorites because Balaam does NOT freak out about the donkey talking to him. (Kind of the opposite of what was said) When the donkey asks Balaam why he is beating her, Balaam just yells back at her that she embarrassed him. Only when Balaam sees the angel does he fall on his face in fear.
    I think it's interesting to think that this man's donkey talked to him and he didn't bat an eye. I think it really speak to (no pun intended) how common "magical" happenings were in that time. Or at the very least how common they were to Balaam.
