So thankful to have this in my recommendations. Can you offer me an advice, please? I have rescued a baby diamond dove, and even thought it can peck at food, I've noticed it is unable to actually pick up and swallow seeds with its beak; it keeps dropping them. The lower beak is slightly shifted to its left side - I don't know if its part of the reason why. Its been a month. I've fed it by hand or bottle.
Hi there! I haven’t raised Diamond doves (they are so precious!) but when Myrtle was a month old (she’s a white-winged dove) she was easily eating small seeds but she still LOVED her baby bottle. I slowly weaned her off of it to make sure she was getting proper nutrition. I just reduced the number of feedings down to 1-2 times a day and then stopped, always having fresh seed and water available. Diamond doves are tiny so I don’t know what the best seed blend would be. Even for my 2 doves they don’t like the larger peas and things like that. The Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Rescue Grouo have a lot of good info too (you can post questions and search all the posts): facebook.com/share/wdZxDJyxznxgMjxD/?mibextid=K35XfP I don’t have any experience with a cross beak but I know these birds are very resilient and should adjust. That group would be able to answer questions. They will probably need to see a picture. There are a lot of Diamond Doves Groups out there too. Anything else I can help with, let me know! Good luck! ❤️🕊️
😃Hello! To ween her off her “baby bottle” I started with a parakeet/finch blend (needs to be tiny). I also supplemented (and still use) Harrison’s High Potency Super Fine Pellets. I now make my own adult Dove seed blend from a variety of different dove/pigeon brands. Myrtle & Dovey (my 2 adult doves) STILL do not really like larger seeds. Spoiled little things. 😅
Hello! Yep! All of the 'baby' videos are of Myrtle, the little dove I rescued the summer of 2021. Dovey, my other dove, was brought to me after he was an adult (he arrived May of 2022). They are both actually only a week apart in age (they are 1 1/2 years old). Thanks so much for watching!
Hello Mimi! When Myrtle was first learning to eat seeds I fed her a parakeet or finch blend. Now that she's older i mix in Kaytee Supreme Dove Food with the parakeet seed. I also use Harrison's extra fine pellets in a separate small dish just to ensure she gets all her nutrients. Do you have a pet dove?
@@dove_shack could you please upload a link to this extra fine pallets? I have a pet dove as well =) she's growing now and wanna make sure she gets all her nutrients... she tends to drop and not be able to eat some of the bigger seeds that comes in the package I bought...
@@megumisflower2897 Hello! Certainly! When Myrtle was young i fed her Harrison's High Potency Super Fine (very tiny pellets). Offered it in separate dish (about tsp) and also a blend of dove seeds & parakeet seed (separate dish). Now that my pair of doves are about a year old i have switched them over to the Harrison's Adult Lifetime formula (they still like the super fine tiny pellets). They still don't like the big pea sized balls or anything corn in their regular dove blends, i pick it out and feed to the birds outside lol! I buy the Harrisons food from Amazon: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040QAESI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Anything else I can help with please let me know! Thanks for watching!
