Honest question: do you spar with any other fighters? If so how does it feel fighting a wrestler or Judoka, compared to a BJJ expert? Is it harder or easier or just different?
Wasn't expecting this but I met Alexis 5 years ago at a seminar we hosted at our gym in Guelph. He got his purple belt from Syl Moroney, my professor's professor. One of the most genuine teachers I've ever met in Jiu Jitsu. He passed away recently & was awarded his Coral Belt by Royler Gracie posthumously. I wish I got to see him again before his passing, he held a seminar a month before the incident at my gym but I was in the US at the time. He was the first blackbelt in Canada & the first Canadian Coral Belt. RIP Syl
What was the incident? Ive heard rumors that him and his brother ripped people off back in the day and thats why his gym split up and created Toronto BJJ
Can you do a video on slowing the pace of a roll down if your opponent is stronger and faster/more explosive. im 125 and often sparring people that are 170 and having trouble getting my grips as they blast through everything and get me off my base easily. So I really need help in slowing the pace down and making them play my game.
Absolutely fun roll to watch and learn. Your slow mo in right places and commentary are excellent. Wish we could see more of these! Keep up the good work!
Alexis is my instructor. A little secret about these kinds of flow roll: takes two to dance the tango. if the other guy refuses to exchange, you wont ever have these. Like you know those blue belters who pin you into side control and refuse to let go, to the point of stalling ? I used to be trapped under these stallers until I met Alexis and he taught me more.
Thank you for answering my request. So many great things you mentioned about Alexis. I first rolled with him when he was about 15 or 16, blue belt 2 stripes (about). He was always athletic and highly technical and pushed me to the limit of my anaerobic and cardio threshold. If he's a great grappler, so are you Jordan. Thanx again.
I find most rolling videos uninteresting, but I must say this is the best I have watched in quite some time. It may be the best I've watched ever. You slowed it down in certain spots. You both were fantastic and I thought the gripping exchanges was very interesting. Neither of you ever stopped moving which is where I aspire to be in my own skills (I'm getting there).
I think belts only mean you SHOULD have a certain level of knowledge and time in training. In everything Ive ever done they never fully equated to skill level. Everyone is different in many ways.
WOW. I have been training 20 years, and I have to say the purple belts I see at tournaments now are stronger than I remember. The movesets/skills now are so much more diverse. Its amazing to see the sport evolve.
@@yannmoyes2493 Purple belt is the belt where you come across a lot of people who are just blue belts who've done it for a long time, meaning there's not a huge difference to a good blue belt. Also people spend a lot more time as purple belts than brown belts generally and I'd say most people who get a brown belt stick it out to black belt.
Hey Jordan, why wouldnt he be a black belt already? He seems very good 💪🏻 and you stated he’s more skilled than the average black belt, but what would be holding him back from getting a black belt?
Because the belt system doesn't make any sense and there's huge inconsistency between coaches. Some coaches hold people back for ages. Some promote very quickly. Personally Id either do away with belts entirely or only have 3. One for beginner, intermediate and advanced.
There is rush, plus there will be black belt equivalent of him who would probably run through him. Let his mature and become a high level threat on the world stage at each belt. It is that that will build is legacy. The world already has one Kit Daley
Dude seriously has such a technical guard. Every single time you clear a leg he tries to go under you and almost gets it every time. It's a testament to your ability too man. Awesome to witness. -warm-up skipping purple belt
There are young athletic blue belts that can tap black belts... and not just the ones that have trained since they were kids. I think belts are just an indication of how much experience and knowledge you have but that doesnt always mean you can force these techniques onto someone who is way heavier or younger and more athletic. It helps for sure but young, strong and technical is just the perfect storm.
😄Yeah, these young up and coming purples are beastly. We had a young European purple belt come in to the gym I train at, I'm a brown belt and he beat my ass nothing I could do to stop him. After I was like man I really suck. Then he proceeds to sweep or pass 4 out 5 black belts, all not slouches by the way (like most of them are former regular IBJJF competitor black belts, older now) This purple belt was like 20 and turns out he regularly get gold or silver at big IBJJF tournaments around Europe. Kid was amazing. This upcoming generation of Jiu-jitsu practitioners is going to be insane.
Brother, what you’re not doing is you’re not very tight and then the thing is they could move around too much for me they don’t move hardly and then if they try to bridge or whatever I just lift their head up, I think really really good both of you you guys are awesome and I love you Brother, but that’s all I gotta say
back in helio's day there was only 3 belt colors, white, blue and dark blue. there was not even black belt. belts don't matter the skill on the mat will show all
Is there a reason he's not a black belt? Seems arbitrary holding him back, imo. I've noticed this a lot with BJJ, there are people who definitely should be promoted, but seem to be made to wait.
Actually, it's much more fun to watch a high level purple belt match than any other. The browns and blacks are more mature but also more relaxed, they don't take any risks, sometimes it's a bit boring when two guys sit in 50/50 for minutes... Meanwhile the crazy purple competitors are basically highly skilled kamikazes: they jump, spin, do all the crazy stuff.
What this says to me is he is being sandbagged. He is clearly beyond your typical purple belt, is winning adcc events, has been training since a young age…
I don't think so only because at the competive adult level everyone is held back and everyone is good. So kinda sandbagging but it would be similar to call weight cutting in mma cheating. It's not because everyone does it.
Ah, the mats definitely get hazardous when wet with sweat. Great roll Jordan...I think he's just about as big a BJJ savant as you are? 😉😊👏👊 Not sure if I sent congrats to you on exceeding 200k subs. Coming soon: 300k!
Belts don’t matter is a weird way to say belts are a bell curve. Mat time, talent and athleticism matter, which should roughly correlate to belt level.
Technicality is what matters and there's many lower belts much more technical than many higher belts. There is a lot of variation in the technicality within belts themselves as well.

What a high level back and forth!
This is an extremely good roll and probably the best rolling commentary I've ever seen. Bravo.
I agree. This is the best I've watched on TH-cam.
Definitely gotta watch him with Chewie from Chewjitsu!

Your concept of raising your hips higher than your opponent to win a scramble is freaking effective.
Thank you! Had to use it a few times this roll haha

Great roll! Alexis is a BEAST!
Wow I've never seen anyone give Jordan such a hard time!
Except for maybe Bernardo Faria. I don't think Jordan even managed to get to attack since he was that busy just surviving.
Bernardo seems to be a lot bigger@@jamestk656
Appreciate the clips of "this is what I was trying to do". I too prefer the low pressure passing versus the standing stuff.
Purple is the coolest belt.
I miss the purple days haha

Now I am not sure, I am a purple belt 😢
I was thinking the same thing!
You're not the only one....
I need to return my purple belt.
Don’t worry lots of us purple belts in the same boat lol 😅
There are purple belts who started after 18 yo, and purple belts who started as kids. Don't mix them up.

Love watching your gi rolls. And dang I'd love to see a current roll with you guys!
Ya we were talking about getting in a no-gi roll sometime soon. Would be awesome!
Beautiful as a symphony. The flow is incredible and I hope to achieve this level of JJ. Thank you for sharing.

Nice vid! Such a great purple belt! His counters were very nice. Eventually you caught on but so good!
First time seeing your videos. Love the commentary and the side by side example vids. Great stuff!!
What I usually do with guys like this is roll slow and bc he thrives on the roll being high paced
Belts are ridiculous mate. Show up, get better, go home, repeat until you die. It’s that simple!
Found the white belt
Excellent commentary and roll. I learned a lot of details from it! Thank you.
Thanks, David!
In my experience, aside from the black belt, the purple has the largest range of skill.

Sandbagging is the answer.
Tournament venues should mandate promotions after a certain amount of medals/points
