    I enjoyed your video on an older DR650. I just got one yesterday that has been in my friends backyard for I don’t know how long. Let the fun begin.

    I got a 94' 650. Blue and white. No kick start, only has 1000k on it. I'm going to do some mods any suggestions

    Could you give more detail about how you retro fitted the tank? I want a plastic tank for mine and I’m not sure how to go about doing it

    Love how you don’t let a weak aftermarket hold you back. Any chance you have links for the rear spring and bushing?

    Also just got a '91 DR650s, I want to replace the clear plastic part of the front fairing. Where did you get the tall black plastic piece from? I can only find short versions of it. Thanks man! Will be thinking about electric start next for it if you have anywhere to point me best. Also interested in the spring too.

    Great video thanks a lot for the info!, explaned some things i didn't know yet, or should take into consideration, the parts a hard to find for the 1990! I always cycle your first kick, then it always starts what you say, love this bike! (DR650RS)

    I agree about the GXR exhaust. Ugly and gigantic. I've got a Jardine megaphone on mine, it was made the the 90-95 models and actually had 2 mounting points, just like stock.

    I would love that fairing on my 1999. They make a more rally type for the XRL but not for the DR. I wish I could get a KTM style rally fairing for the DR but the one from Pro Cycle is almost $1200. I will have to get creative with a heat gun and some plexiglass from Menards I guess...

    Great video! I picked up my 90 Dr650 last summer. Love the bike and definitely gonna look for that exhaust. Did it help performance. My air box is still stock...carb needs rebuild leaking here and there...is your carb stock? Thank you sir yours is the first I have seen exactly like mine.

    • @50yearoldmtber37
      @50yearoldmtber37  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marty O'Neil yes rebuild the carb and buy a jet kit. You’ll need to open up the top of the airbox to get the benefits of the pipe. Good luck and anything I can help with just email me. Modernmetals42@ Gmail.com

      Kentucky Adventure Rider Thank you sir! My friend knows carbs and I will have him go nuts once I get the exhaust on it. Love the bike...feel bad the guy gave it to me for $900! It rips good put a new Barnett clutch in it...my friend did anyways. Did you do anything with gearing? Thinking I want to go bigger for trail lugging...the dang thing hits 100mph easily now! Have u ridden the newer Dr's. I was considering getting another one so my boy can ride with me on some long on/off road treks...he is a natural on the 650!

    Hi. I dig the mods that you did. The bike looks like a ton of fun! I just picked up a stock '91 DR650S last fall and I am almost done prepping it for trail riding this Spring. The one part that I am still searching for is the muffler side plastic cover. I know in the video you said you were hanging on to yours in case you went back to stock. Just checking in because the video is from last year. Any interest in selling your side covers? I can't wait to get my DR out on the dirt soon!!
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

      Jeff Buick I’d have them still and have no problem selling them up you. My email is modernmetals42@gmail.com. Send me a message and I’ll shoot you some pictures. The muffler side has a small little burn from the stove muffler but nothing horrible.

    I Just got done rebuilding my 1990 dr650s too. I put a tm-40 carb on mine. WOW! what a difference! I live at 10,500ft elevation. My question for you. I bought the ims foot pegs. but they are kinda soggy. Did you use a lowering kit at all, to make them more solid?

    • @50yearoldmtber37
      @50yearoldmtber37  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Sambs I ended up welding the stock mounts to the frame and then cut them down to get a lower foot height.

    I've thought about replacing all the plastic and tank on mine too. It's all mint, and I have a spare set of side panels for a 91 with green blue patch style graphics. .
    I like the slightly more modern look that you've got on your bike too.
    I'm still waiting for them to work on my bike with the big bore 670 high comp piston and mid range cam.
    If you've been to the Facebook pre 96 page, you've probably seen my bike.

    just scooped up a clean 1990, 22k mile totally stock 650 last week. no spark though..

    • @50yearoldmtber37
      @50yearoldmtber37  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thatallredheadude 1 I had to replace the CDI on my 90. Regulatorrectifier.com built me one for 225 dollars. Has worked flawlessly since. I wouldn’t buy used because your still buying a 28 year old part. It took about 2 weeks for him to build but well worth the 1 kick starting.

    • @hank1556
      @hank1556 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im definitely going to order one come payday. the guy I got it from already replaced the stator and ignition components so it must be CDI, if there is still no spark then itll be something simple and Ill have all new electrical components for the long haul! I appreciate the video, Ill do the suspension and exhaust mods to mine as well. get it ready for some camping weekends at Land Between the Lakes! Im not too far away in Memphis
      also, you mention it can be hard to find parts for. Id be willing to bet 83-89 DR600 parts are more compatable with this bike than 92-95 DR650s?

    • @50yearoldmtber37
      @50yearoldmtber37  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thatallredheadude 1 not as much as you would think without modifying. The inner clutch drive plate breaks all the time and it’s on national back order so I bought 2 last time and still have a new factory one. I modded a sp600 one and had to mod it and it worked but not well.

    • @50yearoldmtber37

      Dustin DiNatali it’s the stock fender as the DSA one had no way of fitting. I just cut the factory rear plate holder down to raise the plate higher over the rear.

    • @50yearoldmtber37
      @50yearoldmtber37  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      805gregg well the 90 and 91 are the most reliable and most powerful years. Second I really don't mind kickstarting a bike. And third I build bikes so I have no issue working on this bike. I have a new hi comp piston and rings just sitting on a shelf in case anything goes wrong.
