I bought a 2009 in 2020. 37000 miles. This video is AWESOME. It answers all my questions. And let me tell you...it holds lots of groceries. I took my friend shopping. She didn't believe everything would fit. People even stopped to watch. It's a happy car!! $14 to fill it up. Once a month for me😁
cody herron does it have power to it or does it lack power? How does it handle? Is it scary on the highway and in strong winds? I was looking at one which was blue and white. It was pretty nice
Fox-E (Bonzai) It handles good, and like a golf cart, The turning radius is hilariously tight, you can literally drive circles around mini vans! It's not that peppy, it has a 1.0 litre engine with 3 cylinders that passive-aggresively pulls forward, like a bored college senior to a 7am. it does maintain stability at highway speeds well though, with a top speed of 90 most of the time I have heard some stories about the draft from larger SUVS and semis shaking you around a bit but usually you wanna avoid those anyway
Got my 2009 Smart Fortwo passion 5 days ago now and absolutely love it. The only weird things is the transmission and the brake since it’s floor mounted. But once you get passed that and used to it it’s a lovely car. These cars seem so well built, handled the highway no problem, MPG is extremely great, and overall it’s just a cost friendly car all around. Between the cost of the car, insurance and to fill the gas up everything is cheap. ONE THING I WILL SAY IS IF YOU GET ONE ONLY USE PREMIUM GAS. Do not be like the last owner that only used regular gas. It can take both but if premium is recommended then absolutely only use premium! It runs much better and smoother with premium. Such a convenient little car with enough to keep up with the flow of traffic even with 2 people in the car. Enough space to go grocery shopping. Overall this is a great car and I wish I got one years ago! They’re also so easy to work on and will save you thousands of dollars in maintenance costs.
Im about to get a 2008 passion gonna black it out and add a venom sticker on the back. Your name and comment just made me more excited that another venom fan owns one lol
This is a phenomenal in depth review video. Thank you for doing the research on the transmission and appreciating it for what it is. I agree, I think it’s pretty cool and fun.
I have a Smart Fortwo Cabriolet, I got it when my engine on my 88 F150 was going out. I intended for the Smart Fortwo to be my newer, reliable vehicle that had a warranty. Sadly I moved and couldn't take my 88 F150 with me but have no regrets getting the Smart Fortwo. I liked the odd look to it, and the idea that it was quite clownish looking for a 6'5'' guy to drive it. Sure it's not the best performing vehicle, but i find it funner than another four door sedan looking vehicle, or a sporty "compensation" car, and more reasonable than a truck, considering I don't go much other than to work and home, and a few places here and there. The gear shifting isn't a big deal to me. I only really notice it at lower speeds, like speeding up from idle takes a little longer than "normal" *if* you gradually speed up like you are suppose to. You can "jack rabbit" the car around quite easily still considering the funky transmission. But then again, perhaps I think this because I have mostly only driven an 88 F150 before my Fortwo.
I bought a 2009 Smart fortwo passion convertible today. I actually really like it. Several people in my town in Kansas have these. You have to get use to how the transmission shifts when driving. But it's not terrible. I will use it for short commutes ... work.. basic errands. Amazing fuel economy
Neat! Do you notice what kind of fuel economy you're getting yet or is it too early to tell? I know the gas tank is nearly 9 gallons! So tiny. I thought about getting one just for summer time and fall and short trips. I'm in Michigan and the town I live lets snow accumulate up to 1 foot at times so wouldn't be driving it in winter
This review is excellently done! He addressed and answered many of the questions I had from both technical and practical considerations. I wish he could review more things I am shopping for! And, yes, my appetite is further whetted to purchase one of these cars.
Definitely unique and unlike anything else out there best describes the Smart in a nutshell, and it really speaks about how i feel about my own Smart. Love it, and would get one again if need be. The best review i ever seen on a Smart yet.
Good Review! I've had mine since 2010 and I love mine. I even hit a deer going 60mph..I survived, the deer didn't! I get 43mpg around town and 50mpg on the highway as well as parking her almost anywhere. :)
Saabkyle, I have seen your reviews from Lamborghinis to Hyundais, and now I've seen you review this. I love how you ALWAYS keep a positive outlook and respect every vehicle that you review. I love your insights, and have learnt sooooooo much! Thank you, and PLEASE keep up the great work! :)
I dont understand whats so bad about this car all i want a car for is to get to places, go to school, visit people, shopping? Like any other normal person
helensanderszzz 눈_눈 yeah but what about in the future when you actually need to carry more than one person. "Oh sorry, I have a smart car, guess I can't drive you guys around...". I would call this the forever alone car.
it was so great to here a review about a smart car that was so well done like you did!! everyone else puts it down but you gave it the a great review without all the negativity which was so appreciated i am going to buy one!! thanks for your great and honest review!!
I bought my '08 Smart For two about 6 months ago, in Canada. I'm getting 53 mpg city, 67 highway, Friggin awesome. $35 to fill up compared to $65 for my old 6 cylinder minivan. I figure it will pay for itself in $ saved in gas, in about 2.5 years.
I know the comments old but I've just got to say this. Do people realize how cheap a car is to fill up doesn't mean a thing? So if I get a SUV with a 10 gallon fuel tank it's good on gas because it only cost $40 to fill up? I'd rather pay more to fill up and have high mpgs just because I hate stopping to get gas. Idk why they can't get a regular size fuel tank on these cars. Imagine 600+ miles a tank, would be awesome! But nah, let's give it a tiny tank.
I just test drove one and I'm 6'3. Fit with plenty of room to spare. My two major issues with the car are the slow transmission (though it kinda gets amusing after awhile), and, mostly, the brake pedal. Hate floor mounted brakes.
It's 2024 and I'm about to buy the same model, I had a lot of questions, now they have been answered. Thanks to this video I am more convinced to buy, i think it's pretty neat, just myself going to work and shop, that's enough for me, I don't like big cars, don't need them, also can't afford them, but don't care.
My mom has owned a 2011 smart car for a few years now and she loves it we have towed a trailer across the country with it when moved to the Southwest and it didn't give us any issues
GanG914 some are....I wasn't...I didn't and don't have a sexual affection for vehicles....I go by what I think looks cool and what doesn't look cool, not by what position my Johnson is in
He's pretty much right. So many of us Americans drive big huge SUVs and have no passengers, never off-road, and haul nothing but mommy and her little precious child. How is that not pure waste? I see it every day, many many times.
Never knew what was so smart about owning one of these things, other than gas millage. I prefer my truck because it actually saved my mother's life once. Guy rammed her on the side at 70 miles and hour on the highway and she was able to walk away without a scratch. Amazingly, the truck was salvageable and I still drive it today.
The Guy on Your Right I don't understand why people assume these cars are death warrants.. if you did any research or even listened to what he said in the video, they got a 5 star crash rating.. not easy to get. They have a steel race car style cage frame. So pretty smart after all
thank you for taking the time to do this review. i am looking at buying a smart car and appreciate all the detail paid into this review. it was very helpful. *smiles*
I have a 2008 passion Coupe, but here in Europe the trans is different a little, because instead of the "traditional" P-R-N-D gears we have Forward, Backward and neutral without the "Park", so to leave the car we always have to use the e-brake, and the movement of the shift stick is also different. This car is much better, than usually the people would think. I love it, because I don't need bigger car for commuting.
Good video. I am right now considering buying one, since I only need a car for the commute to work and back and hopefully a place to park it downtown I think this might be the perfect one for me!
Something about the point you made about not seeing a lot of these cars around, I assume you're from US, in my country (Greece) every 2 cars you pass by you meet a Smart.
Thanks for posting. I really only came to see how much space you had in the back for groceries, etc.. You showed it and there's plenty. I drive a 07 Prius, when it craps out, this will be my next car. Thanks again
Love watching your channel and had first watched it like nearly dire or six years ago thus even before I had my Google account and your channel with great car reviews was really nice thank you for your amazing car vids!
Bob Keefer i do not know if you are familiar with Ricky Gervais but he produced a show called "an idiot abroad" starring Karl Pilkington. Karl drove most of route 66 in a smart for 2 cabrio :D
im currently doing driving lessons and my mum and her bf said they might get me a smart car convertible for my first car, do all smart cars have the automatic option in them? btw im from the uk
As a Smart Car owner, I'm so glad that we don't have the de-tuned American market version here in Canada. If we did I wouldn't own mine. Mine gets 0-60mph (or 100kph here) in 10.4 seconds. No means a fast car but much quicker than the 14 seconds for the American market.
I have driven the Smart before and it feels quite comfortable for me, being 6'1' and 280 pounds. I would not mind owning a car like this at all and I am a big car guy. It's pretty much the perfect city car for me.
alright lets say overall buyers of this car want it for city driving correct? OK for those people who say you are going to die in an accident...well for those who get them selves in a city accident ad cause such a devastating accident....well my friend you probably should not be driving a vehicle..seriously i can not believe how irresponsible you drivers are. People spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their vehicles just to speed their way to their destination. i enjoy my smart car listening to Sirius radio top down and enjoying my drive. get real and drive with a smile and stop racing to the next red light...i really wanted a motorcycle but driving a bike these days are Very risky so i see my smart as the next best thing. GREAT car.
+philip trudeau Wut if I have a smart car AND drive recklessly? Sorry, it can't be helped. I try to be a good driver, but my ADHD makes me get impatient and also feeling the need to race people next to me... I realize it isn't a fast car, but it seems alright to me. Though, I have only mostly driven an 88 150 before this, sooo..
If it's a Hyabusa..or GSX1300R then...no it has not...because a Hyabusa is 1.3L not 3.5L twin turbo...someone prob has put a Hyabusa engine in one...but we're talking BIG engines here....c'mon dude keep up...
in rush city situations the semiauto drive shifting is slower than other cars you will get rear ended if you dont manually shift and keep up with city stop and go traffic the paddle shifters are life savers
dang, old 3 cylinder 5 speed Geo Metro did better gas mileage and could be tinkered with to get near double what this seats only two person gokart gets. I don't think it has much claim to brag about fuel economy.
@@PANZERSGARAGE yes and at least this will always get a minimum of 33 in the city. The 2004 Ford focus I had only got 22 mpg in the city. Just terrible
I went to an Angels game and this guy who was as wide as two of you sat in front of me he literally squeezed into the seat, so im sure you would fit in that car. It may not go faster than 10 miles an hour but thats 9.9 miles faster than you would wobble
Once a month for me😁
You stilll have it? Lol
Just got a used 2010 Smart this weekend, Best purchase I have ever made.
Good luck getting pussy
Oh I do, sorority chicks love it.
cody herron does it have power to it or does it lack power? How does it handle? Is it scary on the highway and in strong winds? I was looking at one which was blue and white. It was pretty nice

This car's amazing. I'm really thinking of buying one. That all-black still maintains the coolness level. ;)
no it doesn't.. gay as fuck
If gay is classified as being economically conservative and financially wise, then meet me at Gay Pride nexy year with extra piggy banks!
reasontm1 fuck fuck?
Same!
Jason , you should see my bright yellow and black convertible .
17:26 it's so weird listening to americans talk about the smart, it's such a common and normal car in europe - you see them everywhere
+Alexis Chaumat i have to disagree with that, it's just a small city car - that's it
***** you have obviously never driven a smart before, i'm 6'3 (1.90m) and i fit in perfectly
WWMMWWWMMMWWWWMMMM and that's why the rest of the world thinks that americans are stupid and retarded?!
WWMMWWWMMMWWWWMMMM lol i don't even know what your problem is
+tgms177 lol my thoughts exactly

I want to paint mine to look more clownish, and give it an even more toy/clown horn sound. It'd be funny.
I love these cars
i love the robot shifting the gears bit about it.
Got to echo these sentiments. I comment on TH-cam vids maybe once a year, but this vid was so clear, informative, and well-presented. Thumbs-up!
basically a street legal golf cart
Lol
Or a bitch car
yeah the typical bitch mobile xDD...in pink :v

... my vehicle was also of year 2 009 I Think
These cars are massive on the inside, sitting wise. Not really any storage space though.
Max yeah plus it gets hot in the back with that engine
"and we are gonna check out the rest of the vehicle" really...is there a secret back seat somewhere that we don't know about or something
Shawn lol
😂😂
It’s impossible because the engine is there
for me to know and for you to find out, there is a smart called fourforfour.
..I drove no

This review is excellently done! He addressed and answered many of the questions I had from both technical and practical considerations. I wish he could review more things I am shopping for! And, yes, my appetite is further whetted to purchase one of these cars.
The car looks really cozy.
It is but the ride is bumpy. Ironically enough
Wow what a awesome car :) thank you for the in depth viewing :)
Definitely unique and unlike anything else out there best describes the Smart in a nutshell, and it really speaks about how i feel about my own Smart. Love it, and would get one again if need be. The best review i ever seen on a Smart yet.

What an adorable car
Man, the music at the end is epic! :D
I just bought one a month ago and I absolutely love it can't find any fault with it
its very reliable, driven one for years and bought another 3 years later, the 4forfour.
Thinking about getting this car to go to school in, such a cheap car. However, lets just say I'm going to stay a virgin until the lease is up.
Are you a guy or a girl. If your a guy your gonna beat the hell up lol
+Eliot Winchell did you end up getting one?
+harry jangles I have one of these. I wrapped it in matte black. Girls love it!
+Eliot Winchell Girls Love this car cause it is actually "cute"....
+Morty Smith Wouldn't be able to take the girl to the back seat

NICE!!!
How is this comment six years old with no reply’s on it?!?!?!?!?!
I didn't think that review of this car would be fun but I'll be honest it really made me smile

helensanderszzz 눈_눈 Exactly, but why would you get a car like this?
it was so great to here a review about a smart car that was so well done like you did!! everyone else puts it down but you gave it the a great review without all the negativity which was so appreciated i am going to buy one!! thanks for your great and honest review!!

Ty Savoy Good attitude about it. I actually like the Smart, don't think I'd buy one but they're fun to drive and easy to park

Sheridantank Thats true but if that same suv gets 10 miles per gallon than you would be filling that tank every day.
Actually, the first decent in-depth review of the Smart Fortwo. Nicely done!
I just test drove one and I'm 6'3. Fit with plenty of room to spare. My two major issues with the car are the slow transmission (though it kinda gets amusing after awhile), and, mostly, the brake pedal. Hate floor mounted brakes.
Honestly I'm not surprised, Shaq drives one of these
Awesome car review. One of the best I’ve seen on the smart. Thanks!
did I hear a fart in 5:50?
It's the wool, when he opened it,it's wool made a sound

I actually hate tiny cars like these, but i kinda like Smart ForTwos, they remind me of old times cramming myself in a passenger seat full of bags.

Smart cars are actually very SAFE.
A smart car got hit by a FUCKING train, and the owner walked away 100% fine.
***** sure, because a volvo is a larger car.
My dad's truck would demolish any other car simply by size.
I've always loved these cars. Great for driving in the city
... RighT because of ThaT I buyed This Modell

I could imagine that a manual version must be so much fun to wreck around with! Haha 👍🏻
I bought a 09 smart car for two passion last month for my Delivery Service and it’s the best thing I did .. It’s great on gas..
I love your content I'm really in to cars

It should be a sin to rev this car
Zander Hicks it is
I really like his reviews! He remarks on things as I'm thinking about them.
Thats a great review.Thanks.

This is the most useful and in-depth review I've run across. Thanks!
nice review im in uk can get these pretty cheap now im 33 gona get one for my first car just for work, insurance is cheaper than a bus pass lol
Love watching your channel and had first watched it like nearly dire or six years ago thus even before I had my Google account and your channel with great car reviews was really nice thank you for your amazing car vids!
Love to see someone drive coast to coast in it lol
Bob Keefer if you get me the car with a manual I'd do it
Bob Keefer i do not know if you are familiar with Ricky Gervais but he produced a show called "an idiot abroad" starring Karl Pilkington. Karl drove most of route 66 in a smart for 2 cabrio :D
Gotta love that twin turbo V8 sound.
Next time can you leave the engine off while reviewing it? It was a little annoying.
Best review I've ever seen!
im currently doing driving lessons and my mum and her bf said they might get me a smart car convertible for my first car, do all smart cars have the automatic option in them? btw im from the uk
+THFC Chaz all the smart cars (convertible or coupe) come with an automatic gearbox, there are some semi-automatics but their very rare
even in the uk?
THFC Chaz of course :) there is no such thing as a manuel gearbox in a smart fortwo
only the automatic and the semi-automatic
yes there is coz my mums car is manuel
THFC Chaz smart FORTWO?
oh yeah this is a real detailed review!!! what a great work !
Imagine if this smart could do wheelies :D

OK for those people who say you are going to die in an accident...well for those who get them selves in a city accident ad cause such a devastating accident....well my friend you probably should not be driving a vehicle..seriously i can not believe how irresponsible you drivers are. People spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their vehicles just to speed their way to their destination. i enjoy my smart car listening to Sirius radio top down and enjoying my drive. get real and drive with a smile and stop racing to the next red light...i really wanted a motorcycle but driving a bike these days are Very risky so i see my smart as the next best thing. GREAT car.
Owned 2years and no problems at all,no brakes needed nothing..
sorry can't convince me!!
+philip trudeau
Wut if I have a smart car AND drive recklessly?
Sorry, it can't be helped. I try to be a good driver, but my ADHD makes me get impatient and also feeling the need to race people next to me...
I realize it isn't a fast car, but it seems alright to me. Though, I have only mostly driven an 88 150 before this, sooo..
xinic5 lol
This is the first video I watched on this channel.
Just hear that supercharged V12 500 hp engine roar ;)
the good thing about cars that barely make a noise?.......there really isn't one except for the fact that you'll hear every awesome car driving by you
my smart is 177 hp love smart...💖💖
Turbo upgrade,?
Yess
White brabous💖xenon f1 original
Antreas Nikolaou Hayabusa time.
Antreas Nikolaou Lol you was like 9
Nice City car
60 lbs of torque? Thats like a kid pushing somthing
Random Spot Clearly you know shit about physics.
Yup.
Phil in florida that shutvaint gonna go up our bridges over water were boats go by and those bridges have steep assvhills
Lol hes saying its like that fat dude pushing it
+Random Spot The car has a curb weight around 1800 pounds... It's not a pickup truck so it doesn't need that much torque.
Thank you for showing everybody, even to who shouldn't, how to open the hood...
i'd buy one....then put a 3.5 twin turbo engine in it....Muuuahahaha (evil grin) the power to weight ratio would be insane lmao.
how about a mercedes 6.3l V8???
Double DD Haha i like that kind of thinking!!
Or go really rogue with a 5.2 Lamborghini V10
If it's a Hyabusa..or GSX1300R then...no it has not...because a Hyabusa is 1.3L not 3.5L twin turbo...someone prob has put a Hyabusa engine in one...but we're talking BIG engines here....c'mon dude keep up...
***** sweet! Ill check it out
in rush city situations the semiauto drive shifting is slower than other cars you will get rear ended if you dont manually shift and keep up with city stop and go traffic the paddle shifters are life savers
The best part was when he turned the radio on to some
AVENGED SEVENFOLD 🤘🤘
I wasn't expecting to hear that kind of music in that type of car. Great song too! Buried Alive from their Nightmare album.
How about twisted sister I wanna rock 😎 I'd play that in my future smart car
Another great review, please don't change a thing! Keep them coming
You'll be surprised how I can fit that small smartcar in the back of a RAM pickup!!!
i want to see it please
u can fit it in the bed of a small pick up truck
Great video!, it helped me in my desicion, im buying one!.
Great job Kyle for making a 20 min video about a car that's only 2.5m long. Hahaha. XD
great city car,
dang, old 3 cylinder 5 speed Geo Metro did better gas mileage and could be tinkered with to get near double what this seats only two person gokart gets. I don't think it has much claim to brag about fuel economy.
Lol I'm sure you would be safer in this then a geo mentro
@@PANZERSGARAGE yes and at least this will always get a minimum of 33 in the city. The 2004 Ford focus I had only got 22 mpg in the city. Just terrible
Great video, fun to watch and thorough
The kinda people who drive this car are the people who pass out flyers that say "save the trees enter this survey"
Not really, they take premium fuel and don't get that good MPG.
I would drive this to screw around such as let's see how much air we can get
lol - the do gooders, thank gawd, Imma meet my dream man than. Thanks for the tip.
Jokes on you. I want this car for the oil field lol
Superb Media Content Creator 33 lt of gas=520-540 km. You do the math
Thanks for the video :) very informative. Been thinking about this car..
I don't think i can fit in that car
lol
Obviously
I went to an Angels game and this guy who was as wide as two of you sat in front of me he literally squeezed into the seat, so im sure you would fit in that car. It may not go faster than 10 miles an hour but thats 9.9 miles faster than you would wobble
David Watkins you just made my day
You would fuck up the chassis
That is a great Demo !!! I dig these little cars (Great Fuel Economy too).
