    Modular systems seem to be the newest trend in naval warfare, designed to make warships more versatile. Also seeing a lot of new frigate designs with well decks for launching small boats and AUVs and UUVs.

    I see France is making the same mistake as with the CdG, ie only building one carrier. As capable as CdG is, France is hindered by only having her for around half the year due to maintenance etc. This is why the UK built two. I don't get why they're not going with the CATOBAR variant of the QE Class as originally planned. They could build at least 2 for the same price as PA-Ng.
    And to make matters worse we all know that the PA-NG won't be the final design. Budget cuts are likely to cut her down and she'll also likely arrive much later than 2038.

    • @gringologie9302

      That's not an error. That's already budget cut result. Initial replacement plan was for 2 carrier. So the idea is to maintain the technologic dev (so, sign to build at least one carrier) in order to be able to build more when we will have a real patriotic gov.

      How can you compare the two? The Albion class will almost certainly be replaced, along with the 5 landing RFA ships, around 2035. The type 32 never even got off the ground. The re are literally are no visuals, no legitimate designs, proposals etc. It was was based on that ^ one statement. It’s about 2/3 the tonnage of a Ford class, barely larger than a QE Class. It’s a trend that’s been set by the Charles De Gaulle which is only 42,500 tonnes (about the same size as an America class assault ship). It also carries 30 fighters but the Rafale is clearly smaller than FCAS (which looks more similar in size to a Super Hornet or Strike Eagle).

      If you compare QE-class vs Ford-class the size/volume is very similar but weight disparity is due to significant difference in number of decks. Ford-class seems to only look bigger from top due to longer & wider flight deck.

      French carriers and their doctrine are a bit weird.
      CdG sails with a maximum of 30 Rafale and 5 other aircraft. They've managed that once, in 2019 for an exercise. But usually the airwing is a lot smaller.
      They also only have 3 E-2C in total, but only usually sail with 2, which means they can't put up a 24-7 AEW presence. The USN in comparison has 5 E-2D in each airwing...
      And they're desperately short of helicopters. Recently CdG has had 2 helos onboard, 1 purely for short ranged SAR, and 1 other for ASW. In comparison the Royal Navy regards 8 large ASW helicopters as an absolute minimum to provide an ASW screen in conjunction with at least 2 top end ASW escorts...
      Which leads me to think that CdG would always need to be integrated into another CSG to be effective in a peer on peer war as the Marine Nationale simply does not have the necessary assets to protect her either in AEW, ASW or escorts.

      @bennuredjedi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Rakeshi OK so are you saying that other nations lack innovation and that the US is the only nation that can design advance technology for their military? The PANG resembles the Gerald R Ford Class,because if you look at the original PANG design it resembled the first Nuclear Enterprise. What Europe need to do is combine their militaries so that they can procure quality and quantity in terms of their equipment especially the Aircraft Carrier they would need at least 4 and if smart, buy some ex USN Nimitz Class because they are still viable platforms

    • @bennuredjedi
      @bennuredjedi ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. The Nimitz Class the later ones are still good for years to come and they are big enough for renovation, basically making it fit your operational needs, it's funny how countries purchase second hand equipment and modernize it to a better standard than the original design, Israel does a great job at that, innovation and its application is determined by the amount of money that's available to invest in it (Any platform can be renovated and refurbished/repurposed) Countries that do not have the defense budgets must either settle for second hand systems or invest in lest capable platforms this occurs daily within Defense budgets so ur point is not as strong as you make it seem. Also the French PANG is a great idea,but having only 1 makes no sense the British understood that with the QE Class , France need at least 2, 3 at the max having one will relegate the PANG to the De Gaulle status over used rising operational costs then the realization that they needed more than 1 from the jump. Invest in one over expensive platform or use that money economically and buy several less capable platforms that meets specific operational needs like several De Gaulle type vessels. So the Nimitz idea is not shitty but rather represents the current Defense budget procurement process of militaries what to invest in and what to sacrifice for price capability and longevity. Remember the US have the budget to support spending 13 billion a piece for 10-12 Super Carriers, can any other nation do that?

      @@kms_scharnhorst I can agree to that,but that still doesn’t change the point, the point is if France do not make more than one PANG for the French Navy then they will back at square 1 again. True Ukraine the South China Sea Iran and other areas of interests will be detriment to many defense budgets and that renewed budget will reflect their “needs” which ties back into my response of budgets balancing capabilities and price

      That's true. They need to invest in at least two of that class and keep the De Gaulle as a reserve unit that supports their Amphibious forces
