Great video Jimmy. Your shoes are great. I started off using skate shoes, but went back to my hiking shoes like you are wearing and I found I prefer them. I think it's the heal of the shoe that elevates the back foot and helps with foot fatigue. Also the bulkiness of the hiking shoe might prevent injury when having to jump off. The only issue I have with them is that when stopping and pivoting your front foot to deactivate the OneWheel the larger shoe can be awkward to perform that maneuver, at least for me.
Jimmy, is your Stealth Handle the "deep blue" color? The website has a diagram that shows "blue" but when ordering might call it "deep blue." Thanks, great videos. Love riding my OneWheel out here in Berkeley, CA.
I took a pretty gnarly nosedive last night. I was racing up behind a car and planted on the street. I was probably going 17-20 (29% battery and 11 on agressiveness) mph. I just can't ride the OneWheel, if I'm not gonna push it to the limit. I tweaked my shoulder a bit, but I wear pads, so not a scratch on me otherwise. The squeaking sounds like your hub bolts need tightening. For shoes, I would definitely recommend the Vans Sk8 Hi Pro and some Xpand Elastic laces.

Knowing how the motor works and feels I've only had one nose dive in over 400 miles and I rode it out and I go pretty fast too. Though I have fallen carving too hard on dirt, and have fallen hitting a pot hole in grass 😂
Nice video..thanks for testing out those FANGS for us. I haven't broken down and bought a set yet. Seems like their are a few options out there to avoid nose-dives. I will be buying something..just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Yeah, it's not a natural movement to try and push that nose down into the ground. Especially, if you've been thrown off the front before ..not something you want to happen again that's for sure. Thanks again... Oh, and as far as 'Your Shoes'...wear whatever your comfortable in....I wear some old school shoes..
Regarding the squeak, I'm not sure if this is the case for you, but when I ran that float life fender, it would deform and rub against the tire occasionally. It was fun to crush it against the tire while riding to try to bend it back into shape. As for the nosedive situation, my nosedive fear is more from loss of full motor power/control at high speed. I've nosedived a couple times at low speed (uphill, or accelerating too sharply) and that's easy enough to run out - but if I'm riding with Boosted riders or something pushing 20-22mph that's when I get scared! Don't want to run fangs 'cause I roll offroad a lot and dig the corners of my board into roots and earth occasionally and would rather have that extra clearance. Anyway. Awesome video as always!
I’ve been skating for 30 years now. I’ve have so many pair of shoes that I’ve skated in from flip flops to redwing boots. If you’re just cruising like we do one the OW almost anything will do. You’re a little older so I’d stay away from anything too teenagery. Any pair of Vans will do. They’re classic and in the last few years have gained some popularity with the younger generation so you’ll look hip too.
I had a sudden malfunction when riding the other day. Top speed showed 14.3 mph, flat surface, no push back the whole ride, which was about a mile. Suddenly locked up it seemed, and threw me. Hit hard on my left hip but no breaks luckily. The wrist guards saved my hands. A few scrapes and bruises, but trying to find out what happened. I have experienced nose dive before when battery was low and I was riding up a hill luckily at not a high speed. The wrist guards saved me on that one. Another time I had nose dive and pitched forward at low speed which was due to sand in the crack in the road on an uphill grade. The wheel momentarily spun at a higher speed and pitched me forward as soon as it made contact with the pavement. No understanding of what happened with this recent incident. I tried to find something about a Simple Stop glitch that I heard people mention, but can't find anything on that. Waiting for FM to get back to me, but not expecting much help there. Two days later I sent an email inquiring and they said they are waiting for my serial number, purchase info, etc., ALL of which I sent them with the Diagnostic Data back the day of the accident. Battery was at 60%. I am seriously considering getting the Fangs, but I don’t think that they would have helped with this incident, as I don’t think it was due to nose dive. If anyone has information on something like this happening I would appreciate it.
Thx Jimmy, I think you haven't taken into account the other scenario where you're going too fast and the Onewheel stops. At 35kph, I noise dived and if my math isn't wrong the reaction time I had was 0.0015 seconds. Also. I wear ankle brace steel cap shoes. To protect my ankles when I come off.
Question? I read a comment on another channel that when onewheel surges or quits working for whatever reason, it locks up. It looks to me that it just dies and those wheels keep you going or without wheels, you fly. Does it just stop or does it lock up? Curious
I like DC shoes, really any type of traditional skate shoe should with a perfectly flat soul is ideal for a skateboard style foot platform with griptape.
And, what about the nosedive. By the title I thought you would talk more about it. If you don’t mind, what it is, why it happens and it is possible to disable via app? I’m a skateboarder with interesting in one of these. Thks.
Hey Jimmy, great video. I just ordered my Onewheel XR from Future Motion and can't wait to start riding. You and Slydog have been very inspirational. My question is: will the Stealth Handle fit over HD Crystal Sidekicks?
your equasion lacks the Forward momentum, this is a big factor ( huge factor ) since the faster you are going the more potential energy you have transferring to kinetic energy over the Fulcrum. ( Leverage ratio ) ... respectfully intended :) im also thinking a full roller bar across the front instead of 2 wheels would be better cause it would provide some roll ability on grass and trail type terrain ( I wager these will fail in grass, maybe even dig in .
Please comment on how new shoes feel. I actual was inspired by you to wear hiking shoes when I hit the dirt. I like it cuz the hiking shoes feel more durable and useable when I had to walk up an unwheelable slope.
My thoughts exactly. I do a lot of trail rides and I like my hiking shoes for when I'm not on my Onewheel. I'll let you know what all the hype is about!
What riding mode were u on? Nose seems really low. Also, my Fangs arrive tommorow. I'm hoping they don't entice me to go faster and start nose diving more :)
Hi Jimmy, I like how you framed the picture with that statue on the Onewheel. I just traded in my Pint for an XR partially bc I like going off-road/off-sidewalk. By doing so I feel like I'm now more at risk for nosedives. Do you think the Fangs or similar products would impede my ability to go off-roading? I'm especially thinking that they might hurt my ability to go uphill as they they might hit the ground prematurely. Thanks, Mike from Tampa.
When you said physics I hoped you'd go a bit deeper. I'm pretty sure I've got it right, but I'd like someone to confirm; the way the nose is raised during pushback is simply through acceleration of the main wheel. Just wanted to check there not some hidden flywheel in there that provides the force.
I use my Reebok boxing boots to ride. They are flat, grippy and offer awesome ankle support because of the high laces.p Pretty much impossible to roll your ankle. I feel like I am glue to the board with my boots. I also used flat addidas wrestling shoes. They worked great but they offer no bottom support if I have to bail.
@@RCodyWanner es shoes. Never heard of them. I'll check them out! I'm in Denver and I would love to ride with you one day. So honored to have the great Cody Wanner commenting on my channel!
Really Nice Vid! Yay OW. I am going to go make some OW vids after I come up with a catchy name for the series... Any Ideas? As for shoes... Don't worry about getting "skater shoes" they are designed for skateboards not e boards. All you need is really flat footwear. Converse All Stars are what I use when I ride. Avoid runners or boots or sandals! I like the fangs and will have to get some maybe... for now I haven't had that sort of an issue w my board yet, just fighting "pushback". Stay Safe.
🌕🌎 just off hand ( foot) looking at your calculations and the under deck distance when level would half of the distance of the drop as the Board be would less than 5” or less, summing up to half of your total or less. My 2 nosedives were from a Dandan Chinese made OW that are not as commonly found on eBay anymore through past year or so. The reason for it nosediving is I found that they stop on acceleration at exactly the same speed of 8 mph when in the Bluetooth beginner mode. In both instances I was able to get 2 steps in landing on my poly puck gloves of which I always wear to break friction though while they do save friction that could cause broken wrist ,but does allow chest and a elbow taking the brunt of slide impact.. I haven’t done any calculations but I will say you have no time, 0 , none. Amazing enough though you might have those two steps to possibly direct your head around a tree or post. Nose dive is something you have to think about occurring and what objects you can avoid if it happens. I am now a my third OW the V1 and now a pint even though I have never been tossed on them I just installed fangs last night. Should be factory standard equipment, it wouldn’t affect the name and ever be referred to as 3 wheel. It’s a one wheel with rollers.i like my knees, chest , elbows and my life.
Supra high tops. Vans suck, super cheaply made and tear apart in a few months. Converse skidgrip are better but I don’t wear those anymore either. Supras are hot but they protect, support and last..

some WD40 may stop the squeaking without any need to take it apart, it should penetrate into the barings and give it some relief. but i haven't had to yet i'm still under 200 miles so it's just a thought
No don't do that lmao. WD40 isn't a lubricant either. It's a WATER DISPLACER. It will thin out the grease in the bearings and dry up and only end up hurting the bearings. I doubt it's the bearings making that sound either. Bad bearings will more make a clicking knocking sound rather than squeak.
@@AG.Floats so, i wonder whats squeaking! i use WD on all my switchblades but your right it doesn't last, you have to reapply it about once a week. the small components inside the handles need the thinnest viscosity, most oil's and any grease will gum them up the works. just used to using WD but what you said makes perfect sense with the bearings and what not.

I like the honesty. What shoes were you wearing before?
Jimmy Chang Nike Free trainer versatility
Where can I buy that Stealth Handle?
Vans UltraRange Hi MTEs are awesome, stylish, and weather proof. Take them to snowboard trips and wear them in Florida year round.
What riding mode were u on? Nose seems really low.
Also, my Fangs arrive tommorow. I'm hoping they don't entice me to go faster and start nose diving more :)
Great video , but why are you wearing grandpa trail shoes?
How steep of a hill can these take? Factory says 15 degree. Accurate?
Hi Jimmy,
I like how you framed the picture with that statue on the Onewheel.
I go off-roading a lot with my onewheels that have fangs and I've never had any problems.
@@freshlycharged Thanks!
Your bearings sound like they are shot...
When you said physics I hoped you'd go a bit deeper. I'm pretty sure I've got it right, but I'd like someone to confirm; the way the nose is raised during pushback is simply through acceleration of the main wheel. Just wanted to check there not some hidden flywheel in there that provides the force.
You have it right, the Pushback is the board raising the nose through the motor. No flywheel or other devices.
"Mitigate the poop" - my new favorite phrase 😂
And this, my friend, is my new favorite comment! I'm using this comment in one of my next videos. Stay tuned!
At 3:16 you're briefly teleported to the Active Self Protection channel.
You mean the music? It's royalty free music from Bensound called "Epic"... www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/cinematic
Nice shoes, you going for a hike later?
I'm always ready for a hike in Colorado!
Turning into a science channel!
I love science!
Does anyone know the best product eg Fangs that can be fitted to a PINT
But fangs will just be on one end? I ride both ways (on Onewheel) so I don’t see it as 100% solution
Everyone rides both ways but nobody hits max speed or actually cruises both ways....
🤢
Would buying bumpers be worth it
Do you mean a system that includes wheels in the bumper?
Go for black "Spingle Move" brand shoes instead for a cool look with subtle class. If you prefer the typical but edgy American look, Converse or Vans.
DC's shoes or and wide skate shoe is the best for your one wheel. The wider the better control you have. 👍🏾🤙🏾
Brah. vans MTN high top or just vans with the comfort insoles.
Would flight fins also help keep you on the board/safer in the case of a nosedive?
No.
I like hiking shoes over skate shoes. More cushion skate shoes usually have less sole support than hiking shoes. And my Uggs for Mello cruising.
I use my Reebok boxing boots to ride. They are flat, grippy and offer awesome ankle support because of the high laces.p Pretty much impossible to roll your ankle. I feel like I am glue to the board with my boots. I also used flat addidas wrestling shoes. They worked great but they offer no bottom support if I have to bail.
great video, 0:41-0:50 priceless!!!!
Any Vans with UltraCush insole feel great and provide excellent grip
Will the fangs void the warranty?
“es” shoes with the gum sole are rad. Where do you live? I’d love to ride with you sometime!
Fangs will NOT void your warranty. Check out my install video.
@@RCodyWanner es shoes. Never heard of them. I'll check them out! I'm in Denver and I would love to ride with you one day. So honored to have the great Cody Wanner commenting on my channel!
but you know what will void your warranty? Water damage from riding in those deep puddles! ;)
@@freshlycharged Haha I have a feeling mine is already voided lol - and voided in a very well documented way.
Stay Safe.
Get any pair of Vans or DC shoes you like, you'll be golden.
Sweet! Looking for a Black Friday deal now.
They build a clutch inside and the board would engage in neutral and continue to roll safely.
🌕🌎 just off hand ( foot) looking at your calculations and the under deck distance when level would half of the distance of the drop as the
Board be would less than 5” or less, summing up to half of your total or less.
Retro Jordan 5’s &/or 4’s are the best for me. Vans Comfy Cush didn’t do it for me.
Fangs for pint?
I hate nosedives. I’ve had my fun share.
Converse Chuck 70 bosey gore-tex their waterproof and super comfy!.
Supra high tops. Vans suck, super cheaply made and tear apart in a few months. Converse skidgrip are better but I don’t wear those anymore either. Supras are hot but they protect, support and last..
get a nice pair of nike airs i like the skyline edition... or comfort try some new balance I love my 420s and my newest set r red white n blue saucier sneakers has great arch support and are designed with the toungue of the sneaker to easily be put on w one hand... check them out you will love any of those sneakers i personally love the sauciers the best right now
-Pete
Get vans bro i also have some Cole Haan that are skateboard style that I like to wear basically any shoe that has a flat bottom will give you the best grip
hahaha that statue!
I hope my first nosedive is as graceful as that statue’s
why not just ride an e-skateboard, no nosedives whatsoever (unless you crash into cars and stuff like I sometimes like to do)
I thought about getting and e-skateboard, but I love going off road, doing trails, and tight turns. If there is a board that can do that, I'm in!
@@freshlycharged yeah, I kind of want to be able to do those sweet tight turns, jumps and what not, so I'll have to go for one of those one wheel thingies at some point, been looking at that gotway monster thing.
As for off road, my gtx does that just fine, and I hear there are some even better boards nowdays.
@@freshlycharged I think a 2 wheeled board would be great for this, it will hurt turning, but it'll get rid of the nosedive
Nose dives are easily avoided.
some WD40 may stop the squeaking without any need to take it apart, it should penetrate into the barings and give it some relief. but i haven't had to yet i'm still under 200 miles so it's just a thought
WD40 and duct tape. The solutions for about 90% of life's problems!
@@freshlycharged hahaha when in doubt, duct tape!
Vans hi-top zip
For the shoes Travis sb dunks 😃
ah! you're in DTC!!
You got it!
I use crocks . They are comfy
Fangs work but not past 20 mph lol. very wobbly
Drive on gooseshit and then put it up on a table, excellent manners lol
What’s with the apes at the begging
Nice video thanks #onewheel
