    My 76 year old dad got a EUC recently in an attempt to keep up with me on the Onewheel, he's already killing it doing long rides. He fell a lot in the beginning, but he's built like a tank and just stuck to it.

      76! Your dad is a MACHINE! Tell him I hope to be as cool as him when I'm his age!

      @@freshlycharged His response, "Well, I've got 'em fooled. Being crazy and OCD and learning new things seems to have a benefits besides delaying Alzheimer's! Ha ha! Thank God I'm crazy, it keeps me from going insane."
      Yeah, he's a little different than your average 76 year old.
      Edit: Follow up comments: "I checked out part of the TH-cam for your TH-camr and his learning curve with his EUC. The only difference is it took me 40 to 50 hours over two months to do what he can do in an hour; but who cares I can do it. In spite of slow reaction time is due to the aging carcass. I'm glad to see he's wearing helmet and wrist guards pretty good idea to avoid serious pain."

      Yes I’m 62 and worry I look too old for riding my pint around my neighborhood but it’s so much fun I do it anyway. But your Dad is the man and my new hero. It s had so many benefits (270 miles) weight loss, increased balance, strength and flexibility and the occasional admiring glances from the females. Float on old geezers!

    I would add a quick stop to the list. It makes you look like you've been riding for ages, it is amazing safety maneuver and it looks cool because you can sometimes ride the tail for a bit. It's IMO the best move on onewheel as it combines safety, style and usefulness.

      Biker Bob I know it’s easy to think that you’ve lost your mind and second guess your decision to own and ride a OW. Having thoughts like- “I’m too old” or “what will people think”..... Put those thoughts out of your mind. I encourage you to keep on FLOAT’N, it gets a whole lot funnier once you get the hang of it. It takes a lot of guts to try something new like this at our age. Im feel so late at all this stuff like I’ve been under a rock, saw a dude couple of months ago on a xr, I looked into it but I figured it was to mutch money, then I saw and order a meepo v3 a month ago because of the price and realized I’m not getting that thing for a while, so I got my lady to watch sum of your videos and I convinced her to get a one wheel pint with me sense you can do payments on it, we ended up getting our son one too, can’t wait till Monday. I appreciate your passion making these videos giving ppl better ideas of electronics out there, and thanks for confirming that you don’t get paid by them as well I think this is very important for ppl to know so you can be viewed in a respectable way... you are very appreciated, keep the videos coming...

    As with most board sports, spins are as much science as they are art. The mechanics of 180s and 360s are 3 factors used in conjuction with each other in 5 or more possible combinations. The mechanics of your particular 180 is (rotation + counter rotation) Rotation: The process of deweighting the board while you are rotating your upper body, pulling the board in the same direction. Counter rotation: The process of rotating your upper body after deweighting the board, pushing the board in the opposite direction. Something to consider: (turn + counter rotation) may require more cerebellar training but requires less than half the physical effort of a rotational 180. A rough surface results in a larger radius with an inertial but no additional effort would be spent.

    Another great video Jimmy. Thanks for the shoutout. I like and use the "slydog" jump mount technique you teach at the beginning. It is much easier to float in traffic where you are forced to stop often. I have to try the 180s. Also, nice smooth riding on the KS16s. Look forward to your full review/comparison once you break it in. Just ordered another EUC, the Nikola which is Gotway's latest addition. Looks like it is going to be a blast. I will give you the deets once I put a hundred miles on it but it will not be here until the end of April. You will buy a Gotway someday. I gotta buy those flatlands full fingered gloves. I learned that my riding style wasn't appropriate for the speeds I was riding at. I leaned over the board with my hips when i'm going fast because my legs start to give out and shake. The board drops my weight forward and that's when I start to nosedive. Keeping that s shape stance with t rex arms fluid and ready to go is going to be my next stance when I recover from my injuries and feel safe enough to get back on.

    I'm a new subscriber and I'm really enjoying your videos, Jimmy. I have ordered a OneWheel Pint (sorry) and am extremely excited to ride it when it finally gets to me by 2021. Haha. As a longtime Surfer and Skateboarder, the OneWheel really appeals to me as another fun Board-sport. The EUC looks like fun, but I can't imagine it taking off like the OW. Similar to how In-Line Skating became significantly less popular and almost "nerdy" to do, It seems to me like the EUC falls into that category. I'm all for people having fun and I wouldn't be against trying it, but it doesn't speak to the hip, socal boardriding lifestyle. I could obviously be wrong, but the OneWheel just seems cooler. Keep up the videos. All the best, Greg.

    Re: 180 turns: Also tilt the board (evenly between the front and back of the board) in the direction you're going to spin. I still can't do a full 180, but this tip got me from 90 to, like, 150.
    Re: jump mount: Today I got pretty good at giving the tail of my board a flick, letting it spin 360, stopping it with the same foot, and then jump mounting. It's a super easy progression to the jump mount and looks that much more impressive.

  • @kevk1743
    @kevk1743 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Changs, You're Great!
    I continue to learn so much!
    About EUC versus (anything profile, like) Onewheel, this is not a debate, this is physics, and hopefully Ethan can empirically prove it out without serious injury, and it would be hilarious to watch him demonstrate if he can do it harm-free.
    Without getting all numbery, just think about it: Your stability is reduced by (in this case) face forward. Now reverse that, meaning YOU are stationary and the FORCE is coming at you. You're 900 meters tall and 300 meters wide and 60 meters thick. In ANY orientation to this force, what would you choose?
    Or here's a duh-like thought: Why do people face sideways to the wind? Perhaps to not get blown over so easily. Put easily, it cuts down on wind resistance and provides a stable forward stance. Why do people stand sideways in battle? Perhaps to reduce exposed area. Put easily, it minimizes, you know, all those places the knife can strike, like wind.
    And so, if i were riding into the wind, or battle, i'd want to reduce my profile, and have max maneuverability from any hazard, which would recommend eyes forward and body sideways, which is NOT a good endorsement-by-survival for an EUC. And all that aside, if you think that was jokey, you and anyone can do a dead-convincing test of this concept:
    Stand shoulder-to-shoulder, then take turns shoving each other as hard as you can to knock the other over. Now...
    Stand face-to-face, then play the same game, then ask yourself why the HELL you would ever buy an EUC?
    From a physics/safety standpoint, these are simply dangerous.
    TRY IT, ETHAN, I DARE YOU ! ! !
    ( but seriously Ethan, please be careful, and Jimmy, well, as if you need Dad advice...keep your kid safe, of course, but...

    Jimmy! Major props on all the progress with your channel. I’m eager to start creating content and get immersed in the local OW community myself. I will admit I’m finding it challenging deciding on a consistent theme for content that’s in line with my personal brand. I have had my XR for about a month and clocked just below 200 miles. Slowly but surely I’m getting even more comfortable and progressing my jump mounts, curb drops/nudges, 180’s, switch-ups and shove-it’s. Any suggestions for someone just starting out on the “tube” would be greatly appreciated. Happy Floating!

    Jimmy, some great tips. I've been wanting to learn the 'jump mount' technique but I'll be honest. I'm a bigger buy and I haven't' seen any guys around 210-215lbs use that technique regularly. I'm guessing your around 160-170lbs (camera may add a few pounds...LOL). I'm actually afraid I might break the board so steer clear of a lot of this stuff....I'm more of a cruiser anyway...but good stuff. If anyone here is around my weight and does the jump mount 'regularly' would love to hear your experience as well.

    Nice! I've done a million 180s and I still screw it up occasionally. I think I've always just winged it - I think some careful evaluation of my technique would be a good idea - this video is a good place to start.
    My flatland gloves have huge holes at that seam now. I need to sew em up.
    But it's getting warmer out. Maybe I'll wait a year.

    • @AdamHillikerLikesRobots
      @AdamHillikerLikesRobots 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jimmy Chang I've watched Richardson's videos they are so good! But not at a moment where I'm actively going out to ride, I should do that.
      I've already gotten a replacement of my flatland gloves but I guess it was early enough that the replacement lacks the upgrade. I feel badly asking for a third frigg'n pair. I'd rather just buy another set and support them if it really starts bothering me.

    i ordered a pint and am still waiting for it. But i wanted to ask, if im riding and notice my feet are not in a comfortable spot or are slipping or getting close to the tire. can i re-position my foot while riding. ive done segway tours in the past and one thing that really bothered me is that you cannot pick up a foot or even really pick up part of your foot to move it, shift it, release pressure. On a onewheel is there a way to re position your foot after your already on it. If im riding and notice my foot hurts or has slipped. can i shift my weight or hop my foot forward or backwards while still riding?

    • @freshlycharged
      @freshlycharged  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I can't speak for the Pint but if it's like the other Onewheels if you are going faster than 1 mph you can lift your foot from the pad briefly and it won't stop on you. I like to either wiggle/slide my feet or do little mini hops to reposition my feet while riding.

    Jimmy you have lost all credibility highlighting a comment talking about losing credibility. Regarding the tips, the jump mount does look cool indeed however the old frugal man in me doesn't like the idea of the wheel electronics having to surge like that to "catch" me. I have wanted to practice the 180 and seeing this encourages me more to do so. I'm not sure if I agree with Jorge's prediction, unless you have a unsustainable desire for speed that an EUC can offer.

    • @freshlycharged
      @freshlycharged  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Compared to what I've seen others do on group rides and what McCosker does on his channel, I feel the jump mount is pretty tame, but I see where you're coming from. We'll see what happens with the EUC. I just ordered a full face helmet so I can feel better about going faster. I'll keep you posted.

    • @jorgebatista425
      @jorgebatista425 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Duf. An unsustainable desire for speed is not necessary. All it takes is the need to go just bit faster since you get used to the max speed very quickly. Also, most people like a bit of variety or they get bored. Combine those ingredients with a little disposable income and you end up with lots of wheels and other toys. Case in point, Marty Backe, you, chooch, Chris (house of job), Eddie Moy, Tishawn Fahie, me just to name a few. I think Jimmy already has three Onewheels. He can surely justify three EUCs of differing speeds and models. I stand by my prediction :)
