    • @butterbeanqueen8148

      @@ninavandenabbeele9667 it really is. My current spoo is kept clipped short. My brother has a Doberman. Their body frame is almost identical. Big chest, long legs and similar head shape.
      My first spoo was huge. She weighed almost 80 lbs. Her father was the biggest poodle I had ever seen. He would have been a Giant Poodle if there was such a classification. He certainly exceeded the breed standard. When I went to pick up my puppy I played with him. He could put his paws on my shoulders and look over my head. He looked like a horse.
      I kept her in fancy cuts and she looked fabulous. She was a great guard dog. I had plumbers come to my house when I wasn’t home (family friends) and I had put her in the kitchen with baby gates. They went in and saw her (and heard her) then walked right out and called me to say they weren’t doing the work until I got home.
      Then a guy came to fix my cable and when he started to enter the gate she ran barking like a Rottweiler and jumped up on the fence. He came to my door and said he wasn’t entering the yard with a poodle that could look him in the eyes. 😂
      So I can understand exactly why she calls them Dobermans in drag. They are always called French poodles but they originated in Germany. I’ve often thought that they might have been bred from a Doberman for their body style.

    My standard poodle was such a smart puppy that we bought bells and a hundred pack of puppy pads. We sold the puppy pads on FB as a pack of 99. Our trainer was teaching him commands in Japanese and he was following them so accurately that he asked me twice if we had been speaking to him in Japanese at home… absolutely not! 😅 He’s intuitive. He can sense somehow what you need him to do. And he watches EVERYTHING. He stood quietly and watched a mother dear nursing her baby mere yards away. But let a threat come near my car and you’d think he was a wolf. Standard poodle are incredible to behold. I love him so much! 🥰

      @Jacqueline Joy🌸 Aww I'm so happy for you. For me it was the opposite, when I adopted him he was underweight and probably had been starved so he eats everything and can't regulate himself, now he's getting better and is becoming more picky (which is good because he used to eat literally everything) but still will always finish his bowl no matter how full it is. A friend of mine this week adopted her second poodle and it's so hard to resist from getting another one aghhhh, I can handle another poodle but, again, I'm sure my baby wouldn't like sharing me ahah, he probably wouldn't say anything but I'm sure he would become sad, maybe someday in the future, I've only had him for a year ❤️

      You can fix your allergy problems. They are due to your adrenal glands being under stress and fatigued. Start taking the following:
      1. Vit B Complex at 8 am, and 4 pm with food. Also Vit B shots - ask your doctor. Ramp up on B's. Adrenal glands feed on them. When in short supply, adrenals become weak and you have allergy symptoms.
      2. Sleep enough, don't eat sugar and carbs and cow milk to lower your body inflammation.
      3. Take Bio Activated Quercetin to lessen allergies. All natural extract of onion and garlic.
      4. Take Adrenergize, an adrenal gland booster, all natural. Go through 1-2 bottles every year and your adrenals will become stronger.
      5. Drink Kefir and eat Greek Yoghurt (no sugar!) to boost your probiotics. If you have bloating after meals, take NOW Super Enzymes 1-2 capsules after meal and some apple cider vinegar to improve digestion. Poor digestion causes allergis.
      This will make your allergies disappear. Also cures sinus issues. Do all of the above. Tried and tested gold nuggets of information.

    This wonderful dog making great thing for his master but hugo did not like to be disturbed during his work.
    During a visit to Moscow, a friend of his liked his dog, so it was offered to him. A few months later, Victor receives a letter from his friend telling him that Baron has disappeared. It's in the middle of the night, a few weeks later, scratching sounds were heard at the door of his Parisian home. It was Baron! Did you know a dog sled team of poodles won a snow sled race back in 1991. Poodles are my favourite dog breed. It is interesting I used to never like the poodle breed until my Nan bought one, her Name is Muffin. My Nan passed away this year at the age of 93, she loved her poodle more than she loved anything else. and I have taken on Muffin as my own. We have a unbreakable bond, and I now and forever will always have a poodle in my home. She is the smartest dog I have ever had. And boy she has a strong personality lol. I’ve had lots of large breed dogs but spent about 35 years with strictly German wire hair pointer‘s a.k.a. Drahthaars. My hunting days are over and I needed a indoor dog that wouldn’t trigger my wife’s allergies. Got a standard poodle and we are thrilled with this dog. Not only is he smart, he’s got real good watch dog instinct. We have not trained for this but it’s just instinctual. Met a man recently whose grandfather has a ranch in northern Idaho and he keeps nothing but standard poodles to work all ranch duties. Guarding, herding, hunting and vermin control. He said those poodles will chase a coyote down and kill it. I have no reason to not believe him as I have been amazed how fast this dog is. Fastest dog I’ve ever owned except for a greyhound that I had once.

    I have a standard poodle who I swear used to be a human in his past life because he is remarkably intelligent and seems to have a touch more depth than some of the previous dogs I've owned or experienced. When he was just a puppy, he knew how to open doors (by standing on his hind legs and leaning on the handles), swim, drop the ball when we played fetch(which I didnt even teach him) and was especially cuddly and tame/calm. He has alway been very alert and wary of strangers, and at such a young age, was already barking and defending the house.
    He is even rather emotionally intelligent - he seems to alway know when I am upset.
    Standard poodles have so many desirable traits: not shedding fur, high intelligence, and emotional depth. Despite considering myself a cat person, I have come to appreciate these qualities and now consider myself both a cat and a poodle person.

    • @Godiscoming888
      @Godiscoming888 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@olololo9224standard poodles coming from reputable/ethical preservation breeders are one of the healthiest dogs.
      Doodles are not healthier than well bred poodles and tend to have more health problems because the stock of dogs doodle breeders use aren’t the greatest. Back yard bred poodles have lots of health issues as do goldens.
      If a breeder doesn’t have a pedigree and their dogs aren’t listed on OFA with all the paid for by breeder health tests.. the dog is back yard bred.
      Again.. standard poodles are actually one of the healthiest medium-large breed dogs.. from preservation breeder. A pure bred is not the same as a well bred.

      @Godiscoming888 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@olololo9224if you get a Poodle from a reputable breeder that titles(obedience.. agility etc) and does the health tests.. they should be healthy dogs with an amazing temperament.. it’s worth the cost. Back yard bred Poodles are a mess health wise and temperament wise.
      We have a standard Poodle and he’s aprioct(golden) and we keep him in a teddy bear clip. He’s always mistaken for a golden doodle.
      I think more doodle owners would go with Poodles if they realized they aren’t born with the shaved face. Breeders shave the face at 6 weeks old but you don’t have to keep it shaved. The red and apricot ones look just like doodles.. teddy bears. Our boy gets so much attention in public and loves it. He also knows so many tricks. He’s super cute and loving.
      A lot of doodle breeders just breed for unique colors and most of the doodle temperaments around here are pretty high strung.

      The ONLY problem with poodles is that they only live 15 - 18 years and they require grooming every couple of months. Their sweet, playful temperament and intelligence combined with their affectionate and loving nature will quickly win you over. These dogs are very smart, obedient, sweet, loyal, cuddly and easy to train. Anyway, true story. My mom (now passed) was a poodle groomer and she had four miniature poodles, 3 females and one male. One night, a very nicely dressed (go figure) young man broke into mom's house via a sliding glass door (mom was 78 at the time) and her otherwise very affectionate, friendly and sweet little foo-foo balls of fluff turned into man killers and cornered him in the kitchen barking, growling and snapping viciously. The biggest poodle was a male and weighed about 22 pounds - the others (female) weighed 12 to 18 pounds each and they flipped from sweet, playful and affectionate little lap dogs into vicious growling and snarling man killers and corned the man in the kitchen and held him there for roughly 20 minutes until the police arrived. I previously made fun of mom's sissy little dogs but I gained great respect for them. I have owned nothing but poodles ever since.

      I forgot to add - my poodles very quickly learned friends from foes and I have seen them turn protectively vicious. Mom was getting old (79) and a nicely dressed man (go figure) broke into her house. Her three miniature lapdog poodles turned into vicious snapping, growling demons and cornered the thief in the kitchen for about 20 minutes until the police arrived. From that point on I have had nothing but poodles. By the way, our miniature poodles had long lives - lived to be 18 to 20 years old.

    My mother brought a miniature poodle puppy home one day many years ago. My father and I were aghast about having a "sissy" dog in our home. However, this intelligent little lady turned out to be a wonderful, charming, obedient house guardian and a loving pet. She learned quickly and was a fantastic companion . Very smart, quick to comprehend, sweet and was an attractive and playful little lady. I was hooked and have had poodles ever since except for one wonderful female black and tan dachshund who was also a sweetheart.
    The only problem is their short life span of roughly 15-17 years for the toys and miniatures - the standard poodles live roughly 8 - 10 years.

      I rescue dogs and have a lot of experience fixing their problems. Check to see if the ear drums are intact (Otoscope on Amazon or your vet), then use a ketoconazole shampoo and wash out the ear. There is a good one called Veterinarian Formula on Amazon. Get the Antifungal version of this brand. When you bathe your dog in the tub, scrub outside and inside the ear with a toothbrush and this antifungal shampoo. Don't shove shampoo into his ear! Just clean the inside folds of the ear with shampoo. Let it drip inside the ear canal, no problem. Then using a gentle shower head with lukewarm water, flush out the entire ear, outside and inside. Let him shake his head in the tub. Repeat the rinse. All the gunk should come out. After drying out the ear with towels, fill up with Virbac Epi-Otic, smush ear till you hear tlok, tlok, tlok then let dog shake head and wipe inside of ear with paper towels. When drying out the dog, try to dry out the ear gently. Use the dog blower from Amazon $100, not a hair dryer. Repeat the cleaning as often as needed, using Virbac every two days. Most itching is from fungus not infection. The fungus comes first, then infection on top of that. Soap and water are your best friend here.

      We have a big boy as well, and he is amazing. Yes, they do tend to get the occasional ear infection, but they're so worth it. We have a girl with idiopathic epilepsy, which can crop up in poodles, but she takes medication and is such a sweet girl!

      As to the ear infections with your Poodle, remind your groomer NOT to get even 1 drop of water in your Poodle's ears and you won't have any ear infection happen again. It's the groomer not paying attention and allowing water in the dog's ears and then the water doesn't drain out properly and BINDO! Ear infection. Tell the groomer that you will send him/her/it the vet bill next time. Ask the groomer to use cotton balls in the dog's ears to eliminate this issue.

However, her sweet, affectionate, cuddly, loyal and playful nature along with her intelligence soon won us over. She was the smartest little dog we had ever seen and was quite obedient and easy to train - show her something once or twice and she had it locked in. Have owned nothing but poodles ever since. Our miniature poodles also had long lives - roughly 18 to 20 years. They are very definitely worth the cost and trouble. They are very smart, intuitive, quick to learn, sweet natured, loving and protective to boot. Poodles require grooming about every 8 weeks, but these are the best dogs I have ever owned.

    Four sizes are common in Europe. Ie in germany the "Standard" is the Groß or Königspudel (Large or King poodle) while the Mojen is known as the Kleinpudel (Small poodle). Those two are the original breeds, the Mini and Toy only get recognised in the 1930s and 1990s.
    Oh and since the dog comes from Germany and France - the FCI rating is the right one.

    I have two standard poodles currently, but have had 9, counting family dogs, in my lifetime. I've always viewed them as a land bridge species. They have the build of an African dog, but the coat of a mountain farm dog. The brown and apricot tend to have a slight resemblance to the hounds (muzzle and gait), while the black ones tend to foreshadow whippets and other runners. It's an interesting and old species, and those variations might be caused by different origin stories. They didn't just come out of france or germany, that's for sure, but they likely did make their own versions.
    Btw, the swimming thing is utter bs. I've had plenty of these dogs, and all of them swam, jumped off docks etc... but not a single one of them was by inclination a swimmer. They'll do anything you train them to do of course, and like to cool off by wading in, but the water itself doesn't seem to hold a draw. Contrast that with the 6 Giant Schnauzers I've had, who would spend so much time submerged they'd grow mold and self taught diving to the bottom, or any of the lab type dogs I've been around who can't get enough of it. Those are water dogs, not the poodle.

    • @mv8130
      @mv8130 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. My standard poodle really doesn't like water. I tried it several times because she had an injury an swimming could have helped but she refused to go into the water all the time and I didn't want to force her.

    • @OnkyoGrady
      @OnkyoGrady 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Godiscoming888 I don't think they originally were water dogs at all. They have a high altitude, super stinky ungroomed, defensively matted farm dog coat if anything, same as the Komodors. I get that it can have some properties that are decent in the water when subject to an insane grooming regimen, but that's not a realistic old timey origin for it considering how poor of a time investment that grooming is pre-electricity. They also look exactly like muscular and curly salukis or afghan hounds when really shaved, and nothing like the euro shepherd or central asian mastiff breeds.
      I basically think they are a pretty when shaved, easily trained, all arounder that came up from Africa with farmers. The Europeans were heavily into standardization and categorization at the time and the poodle was locked in at that point to what it looks like now (and then used in the creation of many modern breeds bc they had distinctly different traits from the mastiffs and shepherds on hand). I think retrieving was the just nobility sport attached to that.

    • @Godiscoming888
      @Godiscoming888 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@OnkyoGrady very interesting take…love independent thinkers. So would you say they were a utility farm dog? What specific purpose would they be used for? I have a hard time believing they were from Africa as a lot of standard poodles don’t do well in heat. I’m in Canada and my boy loves the extremely cold weather and doennt like being outside when it’s summer. I hear that a lot from other standard poodles owners as well.
      The coat is also water resistant.

    • @OnkyoGrady
      @OnkyoGrady 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Godiscoming888 yeah northern Africa or more likely the Middle east. Plenty of cold higher altitude farming and herding communities, and that type of coat is flexible in that context. Short if needed, long smelly and armored when not. Its also where the mtn herding dogs would blend with Africa dogs historically speaking to provoke that coat.
      My experience is poodles are phenoms in the heat when shaved, no idea what those people are talking about unless they are leaving the body long mid summer. I totally shave my dogs tho, unless there's a puppy in house, which is abnormal poodling ill admit. Their cold tolerance, puppy tolerance, affection desire and energy levels are entirely dependant on the coat length matching the weather, which is why i detest traditional poodle cuts.

    I love German Shepherds as they are majestic and fiercely protective. I had several of them, all rescued as adults and seniors. Unswerving loyalty to the point of being your best friend. There was only one god in a GSD's life and that was you. But GSDs are a full time job as they need physical workouts and mental workouts, lots of brushing and vacuuming, and a huge amount of food to cook. You cannot take them everywhere which saddened me, and they are a liability if they nip as they tend to do being herders. You really have to be careful with GSDs around people. If someone raises their arm or points a toy gun...!!! Even with no training, their instincts take over and you are well protected. So I downsized to my first small dog... I rescued a mini poodle.
    I did a lot of reading on breeds and finally settled on a poodle. Went looking at all the shelters till I found a senior dog who was blind and a mini poodle. I took him out into the sunlight and he looked dazed. He had about 25% vision.
    Remy and I traveled all over and he saw all 21 historic California Missions with me in my RV. He is so sweet. Follows me like a lamb, gets along with all dogs, cats, people, birds, everything. However, when a pit bull charged at him, he attacked him back, right on the nose and the pit bull ran for the hills, too funny! I learned to groom him myself and its a pleasure to cut his hair and trim his nails and I now do all the neighborhood dogs too. If I am in another room too long, Remy comes and checks up on me. I can take him in the shopping cart inside the store, in my car everywhere and I am sure he would do well in an office too if he were not blind. He is so smart that even blind he understands everything. We walk every evening along with a Malti Poo I rescued too, also blind. They know their way and have great trust I will clear their path and trot along with confidence. Being blind, they cannot run and fetch, or chase other dogs, but enjoy sniffing new smells and small hikes. Remy can do 4-5 mile hikes, even at 16 yrs of age! I feed them very good home cooked meat, veggies, fish, eggs, yoghurt, and supplements. Its all in the food.
    I've noticed that both my dogs have eye and teeth issues. Its a small dog problem. I have to be extra vigilant about teeth brushing and eye care. Apart from that, there is zero shedding, what a joy! I can take them with me which is so nice. They don't scare people, my insurance rates don't go up, and they eat small meals, take up little space in car and house, and are very pleasant companions. Best of all, their intelligence matches the German Shepherd smarts, so I don't miss my GSDs. I will never go back to big dogs or other breeds. This is the breed for me. Remy is highly intelligent, almost like a person. I wonder if the Toy Poodle is a better choice than Mini Poodle? Anyone have knowledge?

When I had a foot surgery and had to stay in bed for weeks, she sensed my vulnerability, and stayed at my feet guarding me. She lived a wonderful 18 years. I will see her in heaven.

      The only difference between Toys and Miniatures is size. Some claim that Toys are more nervous or more barky but I don't think that is true. It is more the people who allow the dog to get nervous or be nervous or anxious. I love Toys, Miniatures, Moyens and Standard Poodles. ALL are wonderful. Thank you for sharing about your experiences with GSDs! My dad raised AKC registered GSDs as police dogs, trained them and sold them all over the South. The only fact I know of you missed was Poodles are hypoallergenic and don't shed.

    Love the video, but it failed to show the accepted bicolor poodles that were found in paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries

      @@TheSmartCanine The Parti Poodles cannot be registered with the AKC though, only solid colors are allowed to be registered. the Parties and the Phantoms have their fan clubs though and are just as sweet as the rest. Thank you!

    I've read about a pack of feral dogs at Rio de Janeiro in a forest, they were led by a poodle.

    Poodles are from Germany not France.

      Everything I've read recently on the topic seems to disagree that they came from either. The most persuasive origin theory I've seen is a mid to high altitude farm dog from northern Africa or the ME. The med region seems to have lots of potential sightings in primitive art, and the poodle build (africa) and coat (west asian sheep guard dog) match up to the region as well. I bet there was breeding work done in both France and Germany to solidify and formalize the breed at some point though, and that's likely where that version of the origin came from.

    Like how humans just add a name to a small standard. Like they all have to be exactly the same.

    People need to use “trainability” instead of “intelligence”. The level of independence or stubbornness will affect a dogs WILLINGNESS to learn and/or obey , just as a humans will.

      But they learn eerily fast. Sometimes I just show him something and he gets it in like 2 reps. Labs and Goldens do not learn nearly as fast. He also learns just by watching.

    As a German: Pudelin?!?
    The only word I would recognise sounds similar is Puder (powder) or probably Puter (turkey - the bird).
    Poodel is Pudel in German though.
    The word Puddel seems more similar to the German word for poodel.
    I'm confused.
