You have to wonder how Roman or medieval people got through that kind of weather without the high tech clothing that is available to us now.Neat fibula 😉🇨🇦
Grim conditions to detect in, but in the words of The Detectorists, "moist conditions make for deeper penetration". Great finds, lovely Fibula. Stephen Auker 'The Man with the Hat' has a wall poster with all the Roman coins on it. He used to sell them on his Etsy store. He has a second one of all the Kings and Queens of England. The grand British weather eh, when it’s bad it makes you thankful to get home. When it’s good it makes you thankful to be out. That’s our weather indeed Miss D 🤣
Always nice to be on the Roman finds 🎉 such a great buzz to pull something 2000 years old from the ground. Roman always excites me, even the grotty coins. I might need to invest in some woolly leggings myself 😂 nice video 👌
Mannnn. Feel for you. You can have some of our heat in Melbourne Australia. Over 37 for 3 days now. Hope you get to see some sun. Atleast it's green. Don't take up needle point your doing great.
Very nice find, and very rainy, and muddy there! Take care of yourself, hot tea would be perfect on a cold ,wet day.Was 29 this morning here and rain is coming again, dogwoods, redbuds,of course everything's budding or blooming early, 70s tomorrow! Whoo hoo! Springtime!Stay warm and dry!
@@miss_detectorist lol I've been detecting for over 20 years and still haven't found one even though one of my permissions is literally less than half a mile from Verulamium so well done you.
This cold and very wet Devon weather makes me wonder how people survived back then, maybe the Romans stayed mostly in the south east because it was drier!
The coins are consistant with first century because of their size. As soon as I saw the fibula I knew it was a early roman clasp pin, but i've never seen one so bulging at its top.
@@miss_detectorist it is a dolphin brooch..Dolphin is generic for a number of types including polden hill ,Colchester and a few more .. Have a few quid on that being polden hill type. Search 'Hattatt free brooch book" you will get a result for martinGleaden .. Will help you ID
You are quite brave to go detecting in such inclement weather. I’m so impressed I’ve subscribed to your channel. Anyone willing to go detecting in weather that miserable deserves to be followed. Great video with some very nice finds! Cheer’s from Boston.
These hedges one of my friends says people used to climb through them & if there was blackberry bushes people always picked them over the years. I dismissed his thoughts until he found 2 hammered coins right in front of me !! nice finds 👍
Well done another fibula but I'm not sure it's a dolphin type . It's bulbous head is reminiscent of a knee type ,they were more complex than dolphin . See you soon.😊
Stunning Roman finds Ellie, and really lovely and relaxed films too. That patina on the latest fibula is amazing so green and shiny. Thanks for sharing such a great channel 👍🏻
would it be ok to pass on a wee bit of advice about filming in windy conditions .. if your camera has a mic input you can stick a pair of ear phones into the mic socket .. the phone will work like a mic but it dampen down the wind noise .. you can test it by using a hair dryer .. love the Romans finds 👍
Only mad dogs and English men and women would go out in that weather, I do the same whilst fossiling in charmouth, nothing holds us back from finding iron pyrite ammonites and belemnites. 🎉🎉🎉😂
Its been a long damp winter thats for sure. Roll on that first blissful sunny spring day.

Polden Hill type Roman fibula ..early 1st century..
Nice find..
Thank you! Need to get to know a few more types after finding this! It has the same shape curve as the dolphin type but is fatter!

Unfortunately there is wire fencing there so my detector goes crazy when I go near the hedgerows!
The fibula could be the top part of a trumpet style one.
Yes I think you’re right! Someone else said the same, thank you!
Ah the weather has been doing my head in also. It’s a nightmare! Brilliant video! 🤘🏻
Thank you so much for always being so supportive of my vids 😊🤍
@@miss_detectorist No worries at all! 🙂 I really enjoy your videos. Looking forward to see what else you can find!

Oh fantastic thank you - does look similar with the curvaceous top section!
@@miss_detectorist indeed a bit like a bent knee .This larger head ( the top bit ) makes it easier to get that lovely shiny Finnish to it .

I’m using my phone, and unfortunately my mic broke this week - hence the wind noise - so sorry about it it’s a real pain but will fix asap
am not complaining about your sound or anything ..i found it helped me . wind is a killer

Definitely a fibula
