    Was great having you again at goKit Challenge 2024!! That big geek box and bluetooth box were great but the radio tuning that tiny antenna was great fun!!

    To be fair, out of everything out there that you showed, your boxes seemed to be the more functional/usable. I see a lot of go boxes which aren't meant to be used. It's just "here I'll put all my stuff in a box" yeah but it's heavy, clunky, uses tons of power, what is it for? :D Anyway, congrats! Thanks for the video!

    I put together a small HF kit with a (tr)uSDX very similar to the one here. I'm going camping soon and planning to take my 817 go bag for a little foot borne adventure in addition to my 7300 for the campsit. Going to bring the (tr)uSDX instead!

    The G90 tuning a signal stick for FT8 is downright hilarious. Is there anything that tuner cant do?

    I much prefer the way you (and I) do it. Smaller separate kits for UHF/VHF radio and HF Radio. My HF kit sports a G-90, but I also have a well fited pack with my Yaesu FT-891 should I want the extra DB's. The combo kits with everything in them get so big and heavy that they really are not easily portable. The big kits have a "Kool" factor, but in real life, can be too much in many situations. Separate kits are so much easier to move and trouble shoot. Add a battery box and you are all set. Boys and their toys....lol. The neat thing about ham radio is that you make it yours, whatever that looks like.

    • @glensaamanen720
      @glensaamanen720 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What pack do you use for the 891?

    • @johnkaelberer237
      @johnkaelberer237 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@glensaamanen720 It's just a quality back pack that the radio fits in well and is padded. Not a operating type pack. Easy to remove and set up anywhere I might need to. It takes so little time to hook up a radio. I don't see the need for the weight and bulk of a a all in one go kit. Other people love them. It's radio, do what works for you and makes you happy.

    My wife and I are new to Ham Radio. We recently bought two HF radios (a Yaesu FTDX10 and a Xiegu G90) and required gear. We will use the radios at home as base stations, as well as at field days and at monthly POTA activations and car camping trips. For the portable applications, we want to be able to safely transport our radio gear from home to the locations. We are considering two alternative case strategies and want your opinion/recommendation:
    Alternative 1: Store the radios and gear in Harbor Freight 4800 and 5800 Apache cases during transportation, and we will pull them out of the cases and put them on a picnic table or truck tailgate when at POTA or camping location, and on a desk when at home.
    Alternative 2: Mount them in 4U or 6U Gator Cases and put the whole case on the picnic table, tailgate, or desk and leave them in the gator case during use.
    Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    My go box: One motorcycle lead acid + battery tender charger. One IC-703 QRP HF Radio. One IC-2370 Analog 2/440 50 watt, one mag mount 2/440 antenna, and one Chameleon 80-10 loop antenna. Plus, a ID-50 radio with the stock battery and the big battery. I can squeeze that all into one bag and one small box.
