Depends the conditions your riding, how often etc. Me personally, ill probably do this type of service every 1-2 years on my own derailleurs. Ive seen derailleurs that are 30 years plus with grease inside. And seen fairly modern ones that are dry biscuits. How to tell? You can’t sometimes, but metal on metal contact will eventually grind the metal away. So depends how long you plan on keeping a derailleur.
