This has been slow motion, this opportunity has been around since the Canon 5D Mark II, we should've seen it back then but the collective takes time, and it takes a tribe. On YT everyone wants to be in the driver's seat. Now the eyes are wide open, and being a part of something is just as good as being the one behind the camera. Create the energy, create the team, create the narrative. 24 fps is the most accessible tool these days. Godspeed everyone, keep creating!

I’m excited that brands are looking to TH-camrs because like you said, still filmmakers (athletes) in a different setting. I watch Bad Boys 4 and I think some of the shots and ideas they pulled off wouldn’t have happened if Will didn’t get into TH-cam. More opportunities will show up for people who put their projects out on TH-cam for sure!

You put me on a lot of game. You should do a video about how with $5000 a person can get some real good equipment to start their film career or something along those lines lol

This is nothing new, really. This business model harkens back to the 1930s -1950s with product placement within episodic or narrative shows. Somewhere in the middle of the show, there would be an ad for the product that's showcased or mentioned in the show. Just like in TH-cam films and BTS placement ads. Nothing new under the sun, just a return to business model that works in a new medium. The trick now is to garner product placements that are not video gear related to generate greater revenue.

03:31 The problem is you're going to say the gear is great regardless of whether it is or not and regardless of whether you would have bought it with your own money. Most of the TH-camrs taking part in these films have channels based around reviews. They claim that those reviews are impartial and they will point out the bad as well as the good. It's debatable to what extent they actually do that. But in the films you are now making there is no pretence of impartiality at all. The whole thing is just back-to-back advertising of one sponsor's product after another. It's like watching QVC.
Unfortunately, that’s the give and take, I’d point out, despite having reviews, the lot of us have production experience , those who don’t, were upfront about it that right off the get go, if the back to back nature is what bugs you, sure, its a note for next time on roll out, we were asked to make one video as part of that partnership, and we did to make that project happen. movies have had corporate sponsors, marketing and product placement for at least 40 years (we’re lying to ourselves if baby groot was for plot, it’s to sell toys, as is every cartoon and comic remake since 2008) we’re lying to ourselves. If there’s a point of contention my best advice is to ask in the comments, I don’t think anyone said that what we used was the greatest in the world, simultaneously, what we did use WORKED , and most of all kept us in budget. Also not one part of the BTS videos were reviews, I think were conflating issues here
@ Gerald ,Yeah this is a bit of a concern , its different from product placement in films . These guys will not be biting the hand that feeds . eg the wireless monitor system used , it's not bad at all as a budget system , but the lag is pretty bad for focus pullers , as mentioned in all other reviews , I don't think you will see that set up on ordinary rental productions . there is a reason Teradek has 100% on that market , lag or lack there of. As a way to get films made and shown great , absolutely has its up sides , but it's still very much a double edged sword as far as having to then push the product , no free lunch I guess :)
@@robinprobyn1971 one that can be remedy’d by asking in the comment section ! The Hollyland pyro s has never been framed as a teradeck replacement, that said, our first AC had no problems (least none he mentioned)

@@KofiYeboah Im not stressed at all :) but yeah you high light the point really , "not that he mentioned " . because you don't really want to call on the cons of the gear supplied for free . But yeah I understand it ,as you say it's the give and take , but it's a fair comment from Gerald on that topic though . Can it ever be an unbiased appraisal , by the very nature of the transaction going on. Its a great way to get films made , and rental companies have also been doing this for decades , but as assumption of these young film makers using them in the future, when you have a budget . Your model is based on the receipients giving good reviews of the gear thats supplied directly from the manufacturer , and so its a tough sell they wont be biased .
@@robinprobyn1971 I think if the BTS videos were full blown reviews this might make more sense, but a mention of a tool on set for 30s is no different than say a mid roll artlist/storyblocks/squarespace ad that highlights just as little of the cons or lack of mentioning alternatives, a part that’s often totally left out
