Exactly, being able to step in for Randy on such short notice. They tried one guy before him and he blew it...some blues player but I know Brad Gillis by name because this shit makes him a legend.
There was NOBODY as qualified as Brad Gillis for helping Ozzy continue this tour. Brad was top shelf brilliance on guitar in all Ozzy recordings he was involved in. Ozzy knows how to pick'em for sure!
+Shitposting Black Sabbath Fanboy (Ninten) oh ok... you should get a tattoo that says Randy Rhoads is better haha. For real tho I and the rest of humanity agrees with you. Nobody arguing that... just saying...
Dont forget Berni Torme!!! Irish Guitarist that took over a few weeks after the accident & had some creepy stories about Randys pedal boards fucking up almost trying to change for him at certain points in songs!!!!
You say that the voice heard in the recording is not the original? Is it a studio recording that was later added to the video? I've heard other bands have done the same thing in their live albums. Really a shame
Man. What Brad Gillis did this tour goes down in history. Legend. The Speak of the Devil album (hard to find - Sharon tossed it from the catalog, I had to buy it online from a kid in Japan) is one of the best sounding, most tight live albums I have heard in a long time. Don't miss it!
Ozzy, Brad Gillis, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge is probably the best lineup Ozzy had after Randy Rhoads died. I love Zakk Wylde, but this lineup was just smokin' and Speak of the Devil is one of THE most underrated live albums EVER. Ozzy sounded great, Rudy Sarzo showed what a great bass player he truly is (when he's not licking his bass in Whitesnake), Tommy Aldridge...nuff said, and Brad Gillis just slayed. People forget what a gifted player and shredder Gillis is because of the more commercially oriented Night Ranger music. When he was with Ozzy, this band was just killer.
Glory Ride totally agree brad wouldn’t have made anything good for Izzy if he stayed, just copying others is all he had that’s why he chose night ranger enough said, jake e lee definitely all day
Randy Rhoads will never ever, ever be replaced. Randy was a temporary gift to the world but a great gift nonetheless. Those of us who got to see the Oz man and Rhoads together can die happy.
@ericandrews1661 agreed...wasn't the smartest decision by Rhoads to get on that plane...but to compare Rhoads to this dork Gillis is laughable. Played as goofy as he looked.
This concert blew me away at 12 years old in October 1982 when first aired . Took up the old acoustic guitar and since have played guitar and loved heavy metal. This show still brings a tear to my eye how awesome it is to hear and see.
Right off the bat, Randy is my favorite guitar player, and that's one of the reasons why Ozzy has always been pretty much my favorite band other than Black Sabbath. I mean, I grew up watching this. I think this stage show is probably Ozzy's best, and I think Brad Gillis did a great job playing Randy's music. But he did an even better job on Black Sabbath's music. Also, Tommy Aldridge did a great job. This whole tour speak of the devil is a great album for any person. That is a black sabbath fan and or Ozzy fan.
@@tonereaper_1 then why wouldnt they release it??..you people keep waiting for something that doesn't exist. Back then, to film this show cost a small fortune. They did manage to film this, but it was tragically after Rhoads passed.
One of the best emotional but still very heavy classics from the early solo days. I love this song so much it brings tears to my eyes. I love you Ozzy! You are the best!!
I love this song so much too. When I first heard it, it was part of the mystery of Ozzy and his Blizzard and then Diary albums. It was a magical time :)
Brad Gillis for me is one of the most underrated guitarrist I've ever seen, this guy is like George Lynch, fast, creative and with a lot amazing skills.
Brad sounds great here, never understood the hate. This guy learned hours of songs in such a short amount of time and I challenge anyone to do the same under the same amount of pressure this guy was under replacing Randy on the tour.
WTF! I feel ashamed that i back in the day didn't pay more attention to how GOOD a replacement Brad Gillis was after Randy's demise. I was only 14 yrs old when he died but I Still Remember..
gillis was a natural. a ear like no other for . he made some melody lines on songs here that sound like they could a been on the actual first two albums.
That is a great way to put it Charles. His ear must have been so phenomenal, how else could he nail the melodic chords, tempo of that incredible rhythm section, and athletic soloing. He is so incredible on Speak of the Devil. He had it all: he made Ozzy's voice ring out with harmony because his backing rhythm tone was so good. He was also in the pocket so hard, on everything. Wow. A natural. I like that!
I can’t believe the lyrical genius packed in these lyrics, all of Ozzy’s lyrics. Such a message, that I haven’t gotten yet. But it’s inspiring my writing so profoundly.
ozzy was considered a "new band" back then. The first tour was very small and money was tight. Many early shows got cancelled for poor ticket sales. 1981, I saw them in Detroit at the old Masonic Temple theater. place holds about 4500 and it was half full..and Randy stole the show. They got more popular in the next year and THEN did the Diary Tour. To film a show like this costs a fortune back then. This show was sheduled to be filmed..but sadly, after Rhoads passed. Hope that helps
Ozzy , I offer 20,000 for the original soundboard recording of this. I love the rawness of a untouched recording of this. My favorite televised concert ever!
My god to be young again, we didnt give a crap what our parents thought about ozzy man listening to this was and is still just so god damn liberating! Ozz man forever!

The audio over dub on this video is almost flawless. (you can catch the vid sync during some drum fills that don't match the audio and also when Rudy makes his "moves" instead of actually playing)
Ozzy phenomenal entertainer of our generation no doubt about it sometimes I see Ozzy as how far you could take your self. Great song let be rebellious rules tonight how great is that 👍 Ozzy Ozzy sobriety fuckin sucks.

We never went out, but I would dream of running away with her to this song. Sometimes, though I was aware that it was fake (I was not mad), it was all that kept me alive inside. They filmed this at Irvine? Never knew that. It's called Verizon Wireless Amphitheater now but u think they're tearing it down this year.

I believe the drums and keyboards are live. The rest is probably overdubbed for MTV and promos.
