    I have 3 MS261's, one needed a jug and piston so I bought a Hyway cyl kit GX 261 online. I haven't attempted to rebuild it yet. I really want to do it myself, right now Im a sponge for knowledge John . I appreciate anything you share. I want it ROWDY so Im looking fwd to the next videos bro, Thank you!

    Great video man. Anything on the 261. I live in Virginia and have 3 261s. All factory with muffler gut mod and regular carb models Cutting 90% hardwood clearing residential lots and smashed one with my excavator so need a crankcase and I'm building it back but figured I'd try some tricks and found you soon as I searched the trusty TH-cam and brother I gotta tell you, you know your shit. Eff the negative scallywags and keep these bad ass saw videos coming and your gonna be a legend when your done.

    That is really impressive dude, my 260 has a mild port job and squish band was machined I still run a 20" .325 . So your saws with a 25" and 3/8 is a monster. Awesome work.

    • @julianlaustsen1991

      it would still cut better with a 325 chain, running 3/8 on theese small saws is just stupid. the 261c is a beast stock even.

    Nice work. I started with an 031 and upgraded to a Stihl 045 Super with 87cc if I remember correctly. I carried that saw in the morning and a Jonsered in the afternoon. Always had two saws since there was never time to sharpen. To get hired you needed to show what you could do with the Husky 36” bar in the yard. If you survived about three days with that saw you got hired. We never made any modifications because you had to be sure the thing would run and keep running. Best Regards. I’m enjoying your videos.

    Dang it, that's the saw I really need bro. I sucks you showed it to me and its unattainable with any amount of money, not that I could even afford what its worth. My process is falling with 044, limbing with 250, bucking with 044. I'm working in beetle kill spruce, 12 to 18". My old back needs a light in between Stihl saw, 1 saw does all with 20 inch light bar. Need that air filter for 250, stock sucks. Trapper scotty, Alaska

      Well this is where one shithead ruined it for everyone... I used to send out stickers and never thought anything of it... until I got word that saws were being sold as "JCS ported" and the guy was getting MORE than retail... which I would think my sticker would devalue a saw... but apparently not lol... but now I dont send em out its pretty ridiculous...I have heard of other popular saw builders having the same issues... people will find a way to scam... obviously its up to the guy buying the saw to do his research but it still makes me look bad... need to get a different design so I have stickers specifically for ported saws...

  • @imanolberecibar

    I don't see what would be the issue with removing those "skirts" at the sides of the cylinder base besides having a larger crankcase volume, as far as i can remember most 2 stroke cylinders i have seen (with a few exceptions) only have one skirt at the intake side and one at the exhaust side and as i undertand they are meant to support the skirt of the piston when it is at BDC and avoid slapping, which i guess is the type of issue that would happen if they are completely removed, but the side skirts don't seem to have any major function

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The piston slapping/support is what I hear is the "problem" with doing this... case volume definitely becomes a factor and the mtronic system has a hard time adjusting for it but I just give a few clicks to the "black screw" that we aren't supposed to touch and a different or modified butterfly valve and they will run... otherwise they hesitate bad under acceleration off idle

    @alessandromonizza8283 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've ever heard not much about durability of the saw after getting such an improvement in performance, do they effectively last shorter than a "stock" one with maybe only a muffler mod to let the heat and exhaust come out? I mean if a "stock" could hypotetically run for 1600 hours in the hand of a worker, would a ported-like-this saw be able to reach that age? I'm just asking because u know sceptic friends about porting saws will always be saying that u could get em to run 8 inches more of bar but the piston, rings, bearings would last less than an eyeblink...

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is definitely a "give and take" to everything... the goal is to get the best performance possible without too much stress on the stock components... I machine the factory piston so that helps shave weight and less stress... porting/muffler mod will help flow and heat issues... upgrading the air filter is key... also what lot of people don't think of is that they are faster in the cut so they don't spend as much time doing the same amount of work as they would have when they were stock... learned right away they HAVE to cut like crazy after im done otherwise you will get a bad name and these guys would rather have an animal of a saw getting the job done way faster but only last a year (not saying they dont last wat longer)... rather than a saw that lasts 20 years but has minimal gains...

    Hey John any chance you could help me. How do you get your transfer numbers? I zeroed my saw found the exhaust and Intake numbers but am having trouble finding info on transfer numbers. Any help would be appreciated.. I'm not grinding yet just trying to learn to time saws for now

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its measured after TDC... so if your exhaust port opening is reading 100 degrees after TDC on your wheel... and you keep rolling the way the crank turns... your transfers will start to OPEN after the exhaust.... usually around 125 degrees after TDC... they usually open around 20 to 30 degrees after the exhaust opens... that number you get minus the number you get for the exhaust port opening is your blow down.. so using the numbers I just gave you 125 for the uppers and 100 for the exhaust.... your blow down would be 25... on the 261 the uppers stock are going to be around 124 to 128 ( i think) and the exhaust around 102 to 104... dont quote me on that... but that is how you get the numbers on your uppers... the you can start getting into measuring the staggering and angles on the uopers... measuring the primaries and secondaries etc... all interesting stuff if you have no life like me...
