Haha I didn't expect to see "my" Ben mentioned! There's never a good time to pick up a niggle but just before a marathon is definitely not ideal. He loves to stay behind the scenes, hence why he's not overly featured in my videos but his running is definitely more impressive than mine! Thanks for the kind words!
Ben seems a popular name for fast runners on TH-cam! I guess it shows his level when you are disappointed with a 2:26. Certainly think you two are relatively closely matched. You have had some impressive runs of late.
@@TimGrose Honestly in the city centre the only sign that things were not back to normal was most metro lines still out of action. It did feel like the locals were behind the marathon and wanted it to happen. After all the event directly benefits over 3000 businesses. But again the city centre was very much spared compared to the wider province.
Loved the recap, Tim! Having been in Valencia myself, the locals were welcoming and extremely supportive of the race. Some of the surrounding areas showed after effects of the flooding but the city itself was fine and actually my favourite location for a marathon yet. So good that I've already signed again up for next year!
Your predictions were pretty good for Valencia. Ryan had a great run and managed to outperform your guess. Almost spot on with Ben F, who had a great comeback and can now build from there. I had no idea Jake had a near elite level running sister with clearly a lot of under-developed talent beginning to show. On Anya, she was definitely aiming for a sub 2:40 judging by her pace through much of the race but a 2:42 is still an excellent effort. Very close to 7k subs - these recap videos seem to have picked up the pace on subs! Got to be worth a 7k or even 7 mile race to celebrate 😉
Yeah there were some fine runs all round with a common theme of runners getting back near their best after a few problems in the build up and generally this year. Yeah am hoping to inch past 7K by the end of the year. These "news" videos have certainly been good for me and does rather play to my analytical side.
Great recap, Tim! I enjoyed seeing how the race turned out for those runners. Well done to all of them, even if the outcome wasn't quite what they had hoped for. Another name I noticed in the results was Molly Grabill (listed as "Molly Gravill") who ran 2:26:46, a 3 minute PB, for 2nd US woman behind Sara Hall. She isn't a 'Tuber herself but was featured in Matt Fox's Sweat Elite videos when he was based in Boulder. She trains with Ric Rojas alongside his daughter Nell and shows up in his videos too, and Luis Orta's wife Hiruni was another training partner when they were in Boulder so she's a familiar face. She's been knocking on the door for several years and her breakthrough was well earned. Big congratulations to you on those 5k races. I'm afraid that my sub-20 days are well behind me but I know what that means and it's a sign of all-around fitness to be getting back there. And I had fun looking up Peter Giles's story. As a founding member of King Crimson he came close to being on some of my favorite albums from back in my prog days. It's funny what twists and turns a person's life can take, and that there might be another chapter yet to be written at 80.
@@largeeddie ah very interesting all round. Peter lives very near as often see him around Claygate where I am. Can’t say really know him well but somebody would always say hello too. TBH I did not realise he was that good runner relatively. Think he could go faster yet as looks like he did earlier this year.
@@TimGrose He reminds me a bit of Gene Dykes, who ran the first sub-three hour marathon at 70 and set a bunch of 75-79 ultramarathon records last year. (We've never met but we worked at the same place at different times.) You can wonder what they might have done if they'd run more seriously earlier in life but you can't restart the game and try playing it differently. There could be a natural gift for suffering the effects of ageing less than most, just as we're all given different amounts of talent and opportunities to pursue sports in our prime years.
@@largeeddie you see quite a lot in Masters running. The two M55s 1st and 3rd I interviewed did not take it up until later. Maybe do not have the years on the clock.

Thanks for dropping by and very well done. Totally understand about holidays and long edits. I did a 5K recently and must have spent best part of 10 hours editing 2 videos from it!
Great recap from the Valencia marathon Tim, really good you've captured them all in one place. Still going off to watch them all individually 😂 was a great race for me even though I missed the goal
Thanks for dropping by. Just watching some of your stuff and created a profile for you on Power of 10/runbritainrankings.com. Very consistent at least - 2 seconds quicker than Manchester I see! That sub 90 HM you did in Manchester suggests to me got a lot more to come yet. What's next for you?
There's also this Dutch TH-camr who recently ran a 2:20:15 in Valencia (he ran a 2:20 earlier this year as well). Emiel Berghout, maybe it's worth including him in your videos, although his videos are all in Dutch. Think he only ran for 4 years yet!
Great video I was following a few of them on the app and great too see my fellow scot and Cambuslang harrier Ryan run 2-15...😊(can't wait for his video)....i had no idea Ben parkes was running it.. 🙈Ben felton did great.. 👍🏻...loving all yr stats about the runners.. 👍🏻Great news Anna is back on running channel il start watching it again now cheers Tim....😊x
Yes Ryan did very well didn't he. Ben Felton certainly seemed very pleased and so he should and Ben Parkes seemingly did what he was intending. I had wondered if Anna was going to return so good that this seems likely.
I can confirm Gareth and Naomi are very much back in the UK as we passed them on the Trans Pennine Trail this morning. Really enjoying this format. Looking forward to our rematcu at Bourton
Great round up as always...I'm based in Walton, big come back training program for me atm after 20 years away from running. Loving being fit again, doubt I'll be running 6 mins per mile again though 👍
@@paulsyarduk2045 ah Walton in Surrey as in my club ? Good thing with such a long gap that should see a nice progression. Easier said than done but best to forget what you used to be able to do at least initially.
Yeah he is "weathering" very well which considering he was a professional musician isn't always compatible. The other one was at least a pro footballer.
Thanks for the mention @timgrose hopefully we’ll both be flying again in London 2025, gunning for the fastest couple on TH-cam? Naomi’s got some bits of the noticeable flooding that we saw driving in and out of the city, we flew into Alicante, hired a car and drove up to Valencia. It didn’t look pretty and some of the vehicle wreckage looked like a scrapyard, literally rows and rows of new car dealerships. Went through an industrial estate too on the journey and you could see the thick mud all over the place, many cars being driven that were banged up or covered in debris. Didn’t go near many residential places where there had been flooding, so can’t even begin to imagine the destruction there. The city itself sort of felt as though it remained untouched but can imagine the clean up has happened quicker in the city centre. Easy to see why it flooded so bad though, it rained once whilst we were there and the streets were flowing very quickly.
Thanks for dropping by and hope your return to running is continuing well. Ah thanks for the insight there. Clearly some areas were effected a lot worse than what we see from the race footage but good overall I think that the race went ahead.
I was in Valencia and there wasn't any visible flooding damage anywhere. More traffic than normal because the Metro wasn't running but the locals certainly seemed happy we were there and the race day atmosphere was better than 2022 and 2023. There was more armed police than usual.
Thanks for the review Tim. Some solid performances and as predicted Andy would come storming in and I know he will get quicker. Surprised how many seem to be very tired, exhausted or injured.
@@PoetWithPace yes sure a lot more to come from Andy.
