Thanks. It was handy this week that so many channels had not featured before were at such a "newsworthy" race. I'll check out Run SDJ. I see have just past 1K subscribers although always think subscriber counts can be a bit misleading for relative "success".
I'm a bit late getting to this one but fine job as always with it. I did enjoy the original Sweat Elite training session videos. It's fun to know a little more about the runners who sometimes fill out the field in Diamond League races. And US runners often vanish into something like a witness protection program after their collegiate years, maybe reappearing a couple of years later if they're still on their feet after their first seasons as professionals. Those videos gave us a peek at who had gone where and who was training with whom. But I'm also looking forward to Matt's 2025 marathon adventure. It's a big roll of the dice trying to follow the model of an extreme outlier like Kawauchi, but if he really enjoys travel and running marathons then good for him. He won't die wondering what might have been. I hope you're feeling better a week and a half down the road and here's wishing you the best for 2025.
That depth of field is bonkers! How particular runners fare at the main four distances fascinates me. I'm currently around sub 21min 5k, 42:30min 10k, 1:33hr half and ran sub 3:20hr twice this year (one was actually 3:14:30 if I take away the 2 min porta potty stop! LOL). I struggle with pacing at 5k. 10k I think I have finally managed to get it right. Half and full are almost robotic now. Planning to take a solid crack at sub 20min 5k a few months after my spring marathon. Like you, I still remember my youth and the days I could flirt with sub 17min 5k....memories...
Ah always think it is a bit easier if have done it in the past - albeit a long time ago. I think now I find I am more even across distances than I used to be but then I was training for 800/1500 exclusively and certainly get anything longer I was relatively worse at but in hindsight often went off too quick as for a while those longer race paces felt easy - well until they were not! From those recent times then yeah would say you doing relatively better at the longer distances. So saw Andy Maguire from It's On Andy followed his 3:21 Valencia marathon, 5:51 mile with a 19:38 parkrun 5K on Saturday so a bit of a difference to your spread of times.
Great round up. Sweat Elite have made some great training session films- no nonsense. The one with Molly Seidel at the track is excellent, although I agree the marathon personal journey is more compelling.
Will have to go and find that one. I enjoyed one with Craig Engels back in the summer. A friend pointed out some of the content is now only for paid channel members so I might have missed some stuff I may have been interested in whether paying or otherwise.
Two weeks of you blowing your nose would be quite niche🙂 Yes enjoyed all those Telford vlogs - all relatable as done by people with normal lives just trying their best at running at filming it for others to enjoy. You should consider a trip up next year. Join the Wave 2 fun. I think for the likes for us it's not the fastest course out there - yes two u-turns and a bit of congestion. Also a short off road section. What makes it fast it is the quality at the front. Also agree with the Matt Fox comments. It's much more interesting as a personal journey and he has excellent insights into training and other issues. Enjoyed the discussion about the 10 x 100m hills. Dawn didn't take the Bicarrb. She agrees with you that it's placebo. I have one more shot left. Might save it for the BMAF 3000m in January.
@@tworunningbrooms yeah was good to feature some different channels this week but you two and Matt always good value. About to try a run. Not sure if good idea or not but bored of blowing my nose !!!
Cracking round up again - thanks for pulling this all together. It's like the match of the day of running TH-camrs! Have you ever done the Romsey 5 Miler? Entered it and curious as to what it's like - wasnt sure if it was on your CV?
Ha ha, yeah it is a bit like MOTD going round everybody "playing" on the same day. I have done the Romsey 5M yes but way back in 2008 www.strava.com/activities/39560805 so imagine the course is now very different. Interesting to see that as not only could I run somewhat faster then, I could also get my HR up to 170 but I can't usually even get it to 160 these days. When is it on?
Good roundup as always. On the Boston 8 or Adios OG: I always like to think that running in low stack shoes can be quite beneficial. But low to the ground nowadays for me means Pegasus Plus for instance. The Boston 8 almost seemed too minimal when I tried it again!
I wonder if we just get to used to a certain type of shoe at a certain time. If I want to keep my track races going, I feel that some training in something "low stack" by modern day standards like the Adios 9 ought to help that adjustment to spikes which I have sort of got away with as only really use them in track races apart from the odd time.
Ah sort of thanks for the mutual support. Guess I am on week 3 now. Think will try a little run today to see if will help to try and clear it out. Were you still able to train in the 4 weeks or just had to reduce everything?
@ nothing at all for 9 days. Then low intensity stuff but felt a bit crappy. Coming round now but lost condition - to be expected I guess. Need an illness and injury free few months!
@@sagsdothedu sounds very similar then. I did find for my recent 5Ks that I benefitted short term at least with a bit less overall volume but yeah now feel like am having to start from scratch again. My Strava "fitness" measure is about as low as it has ever been but that is largely a function of volume. Here is to a better start to 2025 for us both than this year is ending.
@@TimGrose yes all the best for 2025. Meet up at some point 👊. I’ve entered both the mid-Cheshire 5ks. Initial goal is the British Duathlon Champs late March. So 3 months to get in shape🧐
1st NB5 run done. Quite liked them. Not as soft as some were implying and fit no particular problem. If anything felt narrower than previous versions but maybe just a more conforming upper.
@@colinm9168 yeah kind of think every TH-camr really wants all the exposure they can get. Obviously some channels will resonate more to some than others but we are all runners.
I’ve sometimes wondered if the TH-cam algorithm suggests running channels from a particular geographical locus, or there really just is a glut of TH-camrs from the West Midlands. I’ve remarked on it before on one of their videos because it’s uncanny how much cross-pollination there is between their channels.
Good question. I guess for this Telford 10K it is a very popular race and anybody fairly local would probably want to run. Out of about 1300 runners, still single figure TH-camrs I spotted but that ratio is probably higher than normal. Think also if your content on a video is probably similar (well a race vlog of the same race) then inevitable are you going to know everybody doing it or if you don't, soon will.
From what I’ve read there’s around a 1% performance to be had from the placebo effect (e.g. lucky socks 😂) but you can’t add them together, 1% is the max.
Thank you so much for the mention, a great run down of everyone 👊🔥
Thanks for dropping by and well run both of you. Hope to catch up at some point in the not too distant future.
Great coverage Tim, love all these channels 👊 yes the Q boys are all brothers, I really do enjoy their stuff
Thanks Andy. Good to "discover" a whole bunch of channels in this one and all similar to us I think in just getting out there and doing their best.
Great series. Loving that you are highlighting lesser known people. Can I suggest Run SDJ as a channel worth taking a peek at
