  • This is the brand new Rode Videomic GO II and i cant believe its only $99 USD. How does it compare to the RODE NTG at 2.5 times the cost? This might be one of the best mics released this year

    Yes, this mic is great and it's a bargain. I had the Go ii and the NTG and when my NTG quit, I did not hesitate to replace it with a Go ii.

    Thanks for this great comparison video of the two pics. About three quarters of the way through the video when you compare the processed audio vs unprocessed, what are you doing in post to the audio clip to "process" I'm new to audio and not sure how post processing of audio works. Cheers!

      I usually add compression, eq, and then sometimes a limiter. The settings of those will depend on the mic, the environment, etc.

    Hi Kyle, thanks for the great review! If I'm not mistaken I still need to buy an extra cable for it to connect to my Macbook Pro 2021? Which one would you recommend?

      Rode sells one but most usb-c to usb-c cables should work fine

      I really haven’t tried putting it in front of really loud things yet.

    I have the VideoMicro and the Fuji XT3 and I am not very happy with the results as the mic is very quiet, so I get too much noise after raising the levels in camera or in post. I'm wondering if the Videomic GO II is a significant improvement or if I should get the NTG or the Deity V-Mic D3 Pro since both have a gain control.

      I would go for the NTG. I own it myself and I am very satisfied with it. As you could hear the NTG sounds a lot more professional than the VideoMic Go II. For me having to charge the battery is not a problem at all because I take care that ALL my batteries are charged the day before a shoot. You only have to take care that the NTG is turned on, after restarting your camera. Normaly the NTG starts up automatically when it is plugged into your camera and you start up your camera.
      For a project last summer I rented the NTG 3 for a week. But when I started to realize that that project was going to take much longer I brought back the NTG 3 to the rental service and took my own Videomic NTG to complete the audio for the rest of that project. I was really satisfied with the sound quality of my own NTG and after a few days didn't regret anymore having brought back the NTG 3.
      But for the best audio quality I record my VideoMic NTG audio into the Zoom H5 and not directly into the camera because of the poor quality of in camera audio amplifiers and their noise levels. But I do split the audio signal from the VideoMic NTG both into the H5 and the camera to make audio syncing in post production a lot easier because of the uniformity of the audio quality and signal.
      Directly into the camera, a Sony A7III, the audio levels are the following for very results concerning audio levels: the VideoMIc NTG on audio level 8 out of 12 and the Sony A7III audio level on 1 out of 20... That is enough for sufficient audio levels. On the zoom H5 the audio level is set to 4 or 5 out of 10.

      Same feeling with my X-S10 - actually Go II seems to be quite a disappoinment for this system.

    Is the quality not poor from the 3.5mm jack rather than the USB C?

  • @nictheartist

    Interesting comparison, does the NTG come with 3.5mm connector to go directly into the camera?

    • @KyleWattsTV

      Yes they both come with the 3.5mm cables

    Totally disappointed as having the new mic not working . I plugged then recorded but no sound just the ZV-E10 built in mic working . Normally when you use an external mic the ZV-E10 mic turns off automatically,but it seems not . When I recorded I only heard the Sony ‘s mic recording not the rode mic go 2 , it’s so confusing and stressful and by the way I plugged the rode mic in the right mic area in the camera also the rode connect or rode central on the MacBook can’t open after downloading. Don’t know what’s going on .completely stressed out . Please advise . Thanks for your help .

      Sounds like a defective mic. I would reach out to rode on that.

    • @KyleWattsTV

      Through a 3.5mm aux you should be able to. You might have to adjust the external mic levels in the camera though

    Low key tho, my video mic go 2 did not come with the rubber sleeve or the nicer cord. Amazon letting me down. Any thoughts on this versus the new D4 from Deity for $99?

    • @KyleWattsTV
      @KyleWattsTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had a chance to see the new deity mic but my friend @jakesloan has it and is finishing his review on it

    • @CatAvGuy
      @CatAvGuy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rubber sleeve to my understanding is actually supposed to be an additional accessory that comes with the WS12 dead cat, not the mic itself. Its purpose is to cover whatever port you aren't using to keep wind noise from sorta passing inside the mic.

    • @Carl-Camera
      @Carl-Camera 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It comes with the matching WS12 deadcat; not with the mic itself.

    You said 1 and a half more expensive. 2.5 is wrong then, its not 2.5 more. It is 2.5, but not on top
