    Which do you think sounds the best?

    • @GoTellJesusSaves
      @GoTellJesusSaves ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree that the micro ii and go ii do sound very similar.
      Actually, they all seem to have very similar sound quality and signatures.
      However, I did notice quite a difference with the music playing on the ntg. Much more full sounding.

      NTG should be leveled to 1 on camera and at least 10 on mic knob gain.

      Obviously NTG sounded more “full”, but does that cost additional 200$, plus problems with battery

    I purchased the RODE Video Micro 2 recently. It's a great mic for vlogging but not so good for recording a live band event. They claim to have a 110 dB SPL but the mic distorts and sounds pretty nasty when recording a bar band. This mic is not a good choice for anything that's loud. It is great for soft sounds and voices. So, just be aware that the RODE Video Micro 2 is NOT meant for loud sources but excellent for vlogging. The RODE NTG is probably the best choice for loud sources because it also has a volume pad. rock on.

      Yup I’d say that this is a scenario when a different mic might be best but just like cameras, no perfect tool for every job. 🤘

    I've never been compelled to listen to a sponsor before until today. Way to go pushing the pitch simultaneously as you demo the mic's performance.

    As far as the loudness from what I understand. It is inevitable, the longer the barrel the more some of your voice will also be phased out. That's why Hollywood uses the Sennheiser $1000 medium 416 instead of a $1,600 full length. The full-length microphones (24") are usually meant for unavoidable, very long distance recording. They usually you have to use two of them so the volume is loud enough if the subject is over 3 feet away.

    I got the micro 2 and the mic go 2. The mic go 2 is amazing as demonstrated by your video. I love the compact size and new Helix mount is so much better than the old big and annoying mount. Its a great mic to buy.

    Great video, I loved it. I have plenty of mics now, and the Videomic NTG is one of my absolute favourites. But a bit too bulky for a small camera, like a smartphone :) The Go II is just a but smaller. The videomicro II is great, but capability of recording USB into the phone bypassing phone analog preamp is something sorely missing. Okay, you can add an AI Micro, and problem is solved, but another thingy to add. What I wanted to comment actually is that the NTG5 sounded very good at the beginning. What were you recording it into?

    I wish there was a consistent wind test for all of these. Would have been relatively easy to set up, where youd literally just need a fan in your house, stand in front of the fan and turn it slowly to show wind noise for head wind and tail wind. Ive been looking for this information for a while but I havent managed to find any comparisons.
    Some videos it seems like the micro 2 has worse wind noise, in this video I dont think theres a difference, and so Im not sure what to think.
    Im looking for a vlogging audio set up for the outdoors and while cycling potentially, so wind noise is really important to me.

    Your Videomic NTG looks heavily used. How old is it? How's your battery? A lot of people worry that it can't be replaced, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.
    Thanks for review! I think I will go Videomic NTG for video calls haha. I want a sound like the SM7B near my mouth, but without the mic in the frame and not at the price of the MKH 50, and without the extra xlr devices. I'm demanding. NTG sound better than Go II and at the top of my budget.

    at my job we have 3 videomic ntg mics and a bunch of canon eos r cameras. the ntg mic randomly turns off in the middle of filming here and there, sometimes it just wont connect to the camera, and sometimes it wants to film stereo, sometimes it wants to film mono. I dont know if this is the NTG or canon eos cameras, but any combo of mic/cable/camera and we still have issues.

    • @TylerEdwards
      @TylerEdwards  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s crazy and such a bummer. I haven’t had those issues. Is it all the mics or just one?

    • @BarefootMediaTV
      @BarefootMediaTV ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TylerEdwards We sent one back and are having an issue with at least one of the two new ones. I'm going to test all my cameras/mics/cables next week to figure out which is causing it.
      ive also had issues twice with my rodelink lav cutting out in the middle of 30+ minute presentations on my sony a7iv. Battery is still working, mic is still on, the camera just stops connecting to it even though its static on a tripod and i'm not touching it.

      I think the best way is to have a zoom recorder and connect xlr cable to bands mixing board. Otherwise guess sound would be crappy with every mic.

    Scared me. thought I might have to buy a new mic! I didn't know rode released new mics! the only thing I don't like about the NTG is charging it. if they make a NTG that runs off the camera battery wit the same audio quality I am first in line.

    Hi Tyler! Have you had any issues with the Videomic NTG in regards to audio clipping? I have heard and read some reviews of the mic, where people have gotten rid of the mic due to it clipping audio at regular to low gain levels. I listened to one example where a guy was talking at a regular volume of speech with the sound levels sounding good, but every so often on some words the audio would just clip. In other reviews I've read that some people have gotten mics that have just stopped turning on within less than 6 months of owning it. Most positive reviews I've watched on this mic have been from people who have only had the mic for less than a few months. You being someone who has had the mic for a long term while now, have you had any major issues with the Videomic NTG like what I've mentioned?
