EDM : The place where you literally sit down 8 hours to create a bassline but keep the same arrangement as 7 trillion songs before yours and end up sounding similar anyway.

If a sample or preset sounds good and you will use it for your song, it’s fine to do so. Why spend extra time sound designing to get the same result? People should focus on arrangement, structure, mixing and finishing tracks. Sound design will come along when you progress. Great video, Zen.

  • @thestoicscientist

This is such a cool tip. I have a tune that I knew needed a last harmonic element so I dropped in a sample and it sounded great. I then re-created the sample on Serum so I could move the filter around, drop it a register and get a sound I was more happy with and boom! Really happy with the result.

I got hammered on a feedback stream because I was using a virtual riot snare(thats it) 😂 like bruh and then after that they thought the entire song was virtual riot samples and i just died lol, they were posting shit in the comments like virtual_riot_bass_shot_25_190. I think ita funny 😂

Ab vs G# - actually there is logic behind what is best practice - if you are in a scale that uses, let's say, G but does not use A, then you don't say G# (to prevent confusion, where possible) because there is G used already - you call it Ab because A is not used. Et cetera.
So, your notes go F, G, Ab, Bb instead of F, G, G#, A# which has two G's in it.

6:30 love this tip, I got something to add:
A lot of house music, especially that badass bass and G house sounding stuff, is written in the phrygian mode - that's like a regular minor scale, but the 2nd degree of the scale is flat. (so for example E minor scale has an F sharp in it, but E phrygian has an F natural.)
If you've got a track like that in Phrygian, you can use regular minor samples tuned to the 4th degree of your scale, or major samples on the 6th. So for example in an E phrygian song, you could use a sample with an A minor or C major riff and expect it to sound good.

Yo zen, 4:08, not to criticize you or anyone, just saying (Don't mind). If you call it Ab Major, then the signature is 4 flats (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db). Now technically, G# Major doesn't exist, because, hypothetically, the key signature would be 8 sharps (Now 8 Sharps is not possible straightaway. So that means, there will be one double sharp. So the signature would be F𝄪, C#, G#, D#, A#, E#, B#). But, when we are talking about minors, both Ab Minor ( 7 Flats) and G# Minor (5 Sharps) exist. Just thought of sharing (Nothing else intended).

@@ZenWorld I actually didn't want to sound like a shitty-bully who spreads hate on people's TH-cam Channel. :) But anyways, I know, you have read Hooktheory books. I read Hooktheory and Michel Hewitt's book but I would suggest, you can check this guy called
@musictheoryguy on TH-cam as this Musictheoryguy teaches actual music theory in a easy way and these naming conventions and stuff will become very very clear. [He teaches for ABRHM and you can find ABRHM's grade-wise ordered videos at 'www.musictheoryvideos.com'. For example, I learnt these from him. 'Father Christmas Gave Dad An Electric Blanket' and 'Blanket Exploded And Dad Got Charred Feet'. Now these two lines are funny and easy to remember and they are basically the order of Sharps and Flats. Once one knows the order of Sharps and Flats, circle of 5th will become one's muscle memory.] Just thought of sharing. Peep Peep, your tutorials are really helping and good.
