  • The CR-V is all new for 2023 and Honda is bringing the fight to the competition. On the outside you will discover all new sheetmetal. wheels, and lighting. On the inside there is more room, a 9in infotainment system, and leather seats. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that is paired to and electric motor. Is the 2023 Honda CR-V a BETTER compact SUV to BUY than Hyundai Tucson?

    I test drove one of these. My findings were as follows;
    Pros
    1. The Wireless Android Auto worked FLAWLESSLY!
    2. The drive & handling were good, even sporty for a hybrid.
    3. The interior was well done. My test model had the gray interior which is lighter and looks nicer, in my opinion & should be cooler in the summer.
    4. QUIET. Almost TOO quiet, but I liked it.
    5. Remote start.
    6. Hands-free lift gate.
    Cons
    1. No fog lights. It seemed dark to me. I test drove it at night & my 2017 Lexus with fog lights appears MUCH brighter & visibility is SO much better.
    2. No ventilated seats. Come on Honda! At this price!?
    3. Having the battery take up room where the spare tire normally goes is a poor design choice. Plus, the back area leading into the folded down seats had a "hump" as the result of this design.
    4. Although the interior LOOKS cool with the open design in the dash board where the vents are, all those little holes are going to collect dust and be difficult to clean.
    5. The infotainment center still looks outdated. It's from the 2019-2022 CR-V, Passport & Pilot and is VERY drab and dark. I found it to be dreary.
    6. This thing is OVERPRICED!!! Honda has the MSRP at $39,100. However, Honda dealers around the country are claiming to no longer charge a "Market Adjustment" but instead are NOW charging $2,995 for (a) all weather mats (b) window etching & (c) a 3 year maintenance package. After this "package", doc fees, tax, title & license, PLUS destination charges, this puts this vehicle out the door at $47,229.47!!!!!!

    I own a 2023 CRV Hybrid Sport AWD which is the model below the Sport Touring. I really like it so far- had it for about a month. Was more affordable by several thousand $$ vs Sport Touring. I’m getting 38.5-40.5mpg in Atlanta rush hour traffic with mix of city and highway driving. It is quick enough to easily merge into traffic and it is very smooth and very comfortable. One point I wanted to make that I felt was a bit misrepresented in this review (I really enjoy Raiti’s rides reviews) is that this hybrid uses an eCVT which is a different animal from a traditional CVT. I think it’s worth distinguishing between the two given their differences which are worth looking into.

    • @donwright3338
      @donwright3338 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@greggf6831 Hi, so far I'm really happy with it. I'm now getting over 41mpg (I've calculated this in addition to what the computer tells me I'm getting). It is smooth, quiet and comfortable. It took a few weeks to get used to the engine being off at the stop lights and even sometimes at cruising speed, but now that I'm used to it, I appreciate that I'm not wasting all that gas like I used to. I had a small truck previously that was getting me 16-17mpg (due to my having to stop and go constantly on my commute). The stereo is 240 watts/6 speakers. I would say it is pretty decent - it is louder and clearer than I was expecting it to be - just doesn't hit you with a lot of base. Of course it's not as good as the Bose, but it does sound fine. The only thing I do wish it had that it doesn't is wireless apple car play - not a huge deal as I just plug it in and it works fine. Also, I will add that the display is pretty clear and pretty responsive to inputs. Overall, I'm very happy and now have 1300 miles on it with no issues. The biggest initial concern for me was not having a spare tire which was almost a deal breaker, but it seems that a lot of manufacturers are heading in that direction. I found a spare kit online (pretty expensive) that I'm probably going to get should I take the car on a long trip. Hope that helps.

      Chip shortage. I'd look at every feature and see what could be held off. The 23 CRV does a good job in deciding what's needed the most. A smaller screen and analog speedometer are not deal-breakers. The return of the drive selector handle is okay. I miss the pushbuttons a little. Many hate those. The HUD is unnecessary, IMHO, as speedometer and digital numeric readouts both exist.
      If anything, why the navigation panel lacks an adjustable incline - it's perpendicular to the dash - is questionable, but is not major.
      That said why the CRV has halogen turn signals and not LED - that's the only headscratcher.

But my dealer could tell me what stock they were expecting, gave me MSRP plus a few add ons (floor mats, splash guards, paint protection film). This CRV is amazingly quiet, comfortable and a pleasure to drive. I'm only at 400 miles, so true MPG will come out in a few months. I do wish for a panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats. No real needs for fog lights as the LEDs are amazing. I thought about a RAV4, but inventory was next to none and they couldn't tell me when they would have inventory and wanted to go over the MSRP!

I am a big Honda fan and when I was car shopping, the Honda's were being marked up over MSRP and Hyundai worked with me on $1K below MSRP. The big things I love about the Tucson is the handling, acceleration and panoramic sunroof. It does have a ton of cheap looking plasitic on the exterior, which im not crazy about. Sport mode is where it's at. I need to swing by Honda and take this for a spin though, to do a better comparison. Both vehicles seem like great values. I do love the Tucson Hybrid, though.... Nice review, thanks! I ordered meteorite gray but that dark blue is also a winner.
    The lack of fog lights is annoying, but there are debates on their efficacy anyhow. If they come back, I'd probably splurge.
    Are there screw-in Amber turn signal LED bulbs? That won't improve battery usage, but it would be consistent. Why the mishmash between incandescent (or halogen?) and LED anyhow?

      Mine came in. The color looks great and even looks dark blue from on sunny days.
      It drives like a dream. Smooth, tighter steering than on the Accord, very few complaints that matter beyond aesthetics (e.g. smaller LCD panel, which also doesn't show the distance to the vehicle in front of you being my only real gripe.)

    The design is “okay”. Gonna zonk those exhaust looking vents in the front. I also wish they would have integrated the infotainment screen a bit more into the dash. I do like the more “aggressive” overall look, but looks more like a Toyota Rav4 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️. Other than that, i like interior . Nice to see a shifter return. I liked the center console storage of the previous generation more. Also gonna zonk no convenient back seat handles (like in previous gen CRV). Thanks again Joe for your superb reviews. BTW not a fan of Tucson but i dig the new Santa Fe (calligraphy trim).

  • @ryanratra04

    I bought a Honda CRV hybrid sports touring. If you're considering the Honda CRV hybrid, think twice before you spend $44,000 on this car. Despite the sleek looks, the hybrid version falls short on mileage, providing only 26 mpg. In addition, the sensors in my car stopped working just after a week, despite resetting them multiple times. This has caused significant safety concerns, as the lane change and wiper sensors often fail to work, leaving me stranded in the middle of a drive. Even the lights are practically inefficient in the dark or rain, making it difficult to drive safely. It seems that Honda prioritized the exterior design of the car and jacked up the price without focusing on the car's functional features. What's worse, if you add even a bit of extra weight, the car starts to make a loud rumbling noise and the engine struggles to move the car forward. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a reliable and safe car.

    I can’t for the life of me figure out why their smaller HRV doesn’t come in a hybrid option. I’ve had every Honda ever made since 2008 including the truck, van, cars, and the SUV’s except the Pilot. But the pilot is basically the Ridgeline anyways so…My only gripe is I wish they would have dropped the center screen down about 3 inches. I don’t like them sticking up above the dash. But maybe it works better that way. I’ll have to drive one to see. Hybrid all the way. But my next one may be the Tucson mainly because of the warranty. I usually replace all my vehicles every 3 years anyways so. Which is more comfortable?

The 2L natural aspirated engine with hybrid tech makes a lot of sens. Honda Canada has made a poor decision to not get the sport hybrid. Is it the same in other countries than Canada ? My Sport Touring just started being built today (Meteorite Gray Metallic). I have ventilated seats in my current vehicle, but the CR-V not having them was not a deal breaker. Neither was no panoramic sunroof...I've never had one of those and rarely ever have the sunroof shade open on sunny days because the sun is almost always shining directly in my eyes. When I test drove a Sport Touring the dealer had on the lot (the blue you reviewed), I knew it was the vehicle for me. Never had a hybrid, but coming from a vehicle that gets 19 mpg average and takes mid-grade gasoline, this CR-V hybrid is going to be a nice break for my bank account. With what I'm getting for my paid-off trade, I won't have to finance much and plan to pay it off in a year or so with a max 3-year loan.

    The sunroof should of been panoramic - the headlights are extremely bright there is no need for fog lights (the lights look similar to the ones the put in the Honda Accord 2019 model(I own and love the brightness on the lights- would like to see the screen resolution be better and also ventilated seats all included- as well as keyless go - open the door without clicking the button to unlock it plus remote start - with an option to remote start it from an app.Also, a must have is the weather mats for the floors and the trunk especially - they make cleaning up the car a breeze.
