The film industry made huge behind the scenes changes in 2008, but I didn't realize the music industry did too, maybe just a year later, though I see the pattern starting 2008. Competition in film and music has dwindled and we the consumer are left with slim pickings. And with how shockingly well the internet is controlled you should continue to see songs charting at #1 for months instead of a single week. Maybe we really have plateaued in video games and music (though I still hold hope for movies/short films) and this is the inevitable decline in quality given actual competition is an illusion.
@@andrewjones4774Rather, they were worth listening to when they first came out. For me, that’s the exact kind of song that gets ruined by the radio stations playing them over and over. Radio was great back in the 2010s when most music was actually new and fresh. Seems like the content on top 40 stations is dramatically slowing down if they’re still repeating songs from 2018 on them. In my opinion, the only good new music seems to come from alternative artists that don’t get radio play, or even songs from popular artists that didn’t make the charts. (Most of Ed Sheeran’s discography, for example, is better in my opinion than many of his biggest hits.)
How the hell did Smooth not make the top 5 for 1999? It was literally the #2 (now #3) Billboard song of all time until Blinding Lights came around. I get that's not the only criteria, but that should have been #1 for 1999 and wasn't even in the top 5.
The person who made this had strict criteria. Read under the title, this is an evolution of music in their eyes. I was surprised Smooth wasn't somewhere in 1999 too.

1997-My Heart Will Go On
1998-…Baby One More Time
1999-Livin’ La Vida Loca
2000-It’s My Life
2001-In The End
2002-Complicated (although all these songs are amazing)
2003-Mr. Brightside
2004-Toxic (Green Day and Britney Spears are my two favorite artists so it pains me to pick between them, but Boulevard isn’t Green Day’s best song, and Toxic probably is Britney’s best song)
2005-Hollaback Girl
2006-Hips Don’t Lie
2007-Umbrella
2008-Viva La Vida
2009-Bad Romance
2010-Telephone
2011-Somebody That I Used To Know
2012-Diamonds
2013-Get Lucky
2014-Uptown Funk
2015-Sorry (yeah I hate Justin Bieber too, but this is a pretty weak year and a pretty good song)
2016-Starboy
2017-Rockstar (I don’t even like this song, but I actively dislike the other 4)
2018-Thank U, Next
2019-Blinding Lights
2020-Levitating
2021-Industry Baby (Montero is a lot better though)
2022-As It Was
montero over industry baby is an atrocious take
No song was bigger and more iconic than lose yourself in 2002
You forgot 2023
idk shape of you ws pretty good
The hills?
love to see how the music chabges through the years, thank for makeing this kinds of video:)
Nothing Else Matters was released in 1991. It was on their self titled album "Metallica" released in 1991.

I love listening to / watching your videos they always put me on a good mood

The Rickroll Of ‘87
WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87???
I don't have to look. I know that's a RickRoll.
24:08 The transition is incredible
80s were the best era of the music, they don't make it like this anymore...
Frrr
the 2010's was pop musics peak 😭 i miss all the iconic artist coming in the scene
@@cyneptu6785 that's your opinion 😭
2000s
2010s was the worst decade for music.

@@jjbc9769 oldhead
These two songs should be on the list:
1982 Hallowed be thy Name
1986 Master of Puppets
It’s surprising to see Michael Jackson went so downhill after dangerous, I’m surprised his song you rock my world wasn’t there for 2001
If you were at a wedding and ANY 1 of these tunes came on, you'd get up.
A specific memory for every single one of these, but I'll be honest, the prevailing memory is of sitting in the bath til the water went cold, 12 years old, nailing the vocals of Purple Rain.
Special mention for the capture of the best bit of the tunes.
Was gonna say a link to a play list would be good, but dude(unisex=dude means 'cool person') u da whole package.
Beautifully frenetic. Thank you so much xx 2:35
I would've put Look What You Made Me Do somewhere in the top for 2017...Taylor's return was everywhere
No
heck no
fair honestly, that song was fr everywhere it was so annoying lmao
great compilation had a great time relistening to all these
always so fun to watch
The transition from "Say so" to "Dynamite" was awesome
Also, I thought Mr. Brightside was 2004? Or am I stupid?
I just looked it up because I thought the same thing. It was ORIGINALLY released in 2003 but The Killers rereleased the song in 2004.
@@Blackfedoraowner Oh, huh! That's a very interesting an circumstantial one haha
It was originally released in 2003, but hit the radios between 2004 and 2005!
Just because it was released one year doesn't mean it topped the charts that same year. Also why did Mr. Brightside suddenly resurge?
@@TRMofYT The British
Expected to see Chandelier and Titanium both in there
Thankful my parents raised me to love such a wide range in music 🙏
The 80's was a big decade for Michael Jackson
*decade
No shit.
@@Sektorax yeah yeah
@@Sektorax I'll fix that
The film industry made huge behind the scenes changes in 2008, but I didn't realize the music industry did too, maybe just a year later, though I see the pattern starting 2008.
2019 produced Don't start now, Bad guy, Seńorita, Blinding Lights, and Old town road, what a year
Not one is worth listening to
@@jeffrobertson527blinding lights and old town road is good. What r u smoking?
Blinding lights is the only good song from that year
Fascinating to see the evolution of music. taken aback that it's nearly 2025 and many of those 80s tracks are still massive.
The 80s and early 2010s are my favourites.
*In 2000, a big meteor crashed on the Earth and then the good music started to extinct fading out slowly 'til 2010.*

*Totally didn’t get rickrolled*
This is a good video progression of how music started good, then it went downhill year after year.
The only problem I have is no inclusion of any Alice In Chains. People tend to forget how big of a hit both Man In The Box and Would? were.
Agreed i feel like a lot of metallica songs should have been on here too
Love your vids keep it going!
2012 was one hell of a year for music
I’m surprised on how many songs I know now that are either 80’s or 90’s (some are thanks to my father)…… a lot of them predate me
Bro rickrolled us real smooth
Every karaoke: “WHATS IN YOUR HEEEAAAAADDDDD”
When I saw we didn't start the fire I was like ah memories from high school bc I had to listen to this in history class lol
@@BlackWidow00741 If this is the evolution of music in their eyes they must be blind and deaf
@@zalkkareita9017 I completely agree but didn't want to say it. 😉

When I hear some these new 2020's songs, I realise I heard them in some fuckass tiktok video and 'm like "hol up this is an actual song???"
You couldn't turn on a radio in 2001-2002 without hearing Lady Marmalade. I mean, it was on in the morning before school. It was on in the afternoon after school. And you'd hear it at least twice more in a single day.
Faith Hill’s “Breathe” has gotta be on here that’s one of the best songs of the 90’s
This video just shows how timeless Michael Jackson’s music is and how his music really doesn’t age

Oh my gosh, "LA Bamba" was my my FAVORITE song when I was like 8! I watched that movie and played that song over and over and over again! I wanted to marry Lou Diamond Phillips! 😍

For real so many of them are like "im a 2000s kid and i recognize all the 80s songs" like okay, you aren't quirky for knowing popular songs from decades ago
Why do you care so much lmao
And they don't have to know less known songs if they don't want to. If they like them, they are listening to them. Anything else hard to understand, you sad person?
