What fun enjoying the Martin & Lewis comedy show. As a Copa Gal in the early sixties to go on the web today and relive the memories of my past is a delight. Have searched for the Gals I was with during my stint has been unsuccessful to date, only found our dear choreographer Doug.
It's strange to watch what the young people thought was so funny and entertaining 60yrs ago. I don't understand how anyone could enjoy it but "to each his own."
Unbeatable. Fresh and crazy. But it' s over, what a pity! I'm too young to be there at the time. i have already discovered their charm on colgate tv show and i'm delighted.they fit like a glove and look like greek gods. Thanks for let me enjoy their art;)
I see two pro's hamming it up - and decided to take it seriously. It's like the culmination of Vaudeville & the Catskills meets Hollywood. Lots of experience up there making it look easy. Especially in Jerry, you can see generations of experience being given the perfect chance to shine against the smoothness of Dean - the former boxer.
So weird to see this routine with Dean and Jerry. I have a live recording of Dino doing this same routine almost verbatim with Sinatra, but with Frank doing Dean's part and Dean doing Jerry's.
I always figured their club routine consisted of about 200 separate rehearsed bits they strung together in different ways, & that left wiggle room for improv. How else would their shows earlier in their careers go on for three hours?
Yeah, that's probably true. The boys (and the Rat Pack later on) certainly had jokes and routines in their back pocket to draw from whenever they needed, but the deliveries would change each time, keeping the improvised feel. I'd love to do an act like these guys someday...
The greatest act in show business.
back then ppl would laugh at anything,,,,,,,,,,,,😆

Thanks for tuning in and commenting, glad you enjoyed it. We made Jerry's A&E Biography in 1996, and the Biography of The Rat Pack in 1999. :)

1954. This was considered kinda racy. It’s amazing how many comics copied Jerry since.

Dean: "Just made a film with Janet Leigh...you got to stay abreast of that girl."
+Paul Driscoll Ba-da-BING! :)

Excellent point.
Enjoying the show, with a fine cigar in my ashtray from The Copa and matchbook as well.
+Paul Driscoll Now that's what I call LIVIN' Easy, baby... :)
