Wow! Thank you for sharing this video! The Copa was my favorite spot during my 20s from 1990-1996 I believe. Tuesdays was Comedy Night and so afterwork my coworkers and I would hope in over there. The upstairs level played contemporary Rap, R&B, Disco while the downstairs level played Salsa. Salsa greats such as Tito Nieves, Nino Segarra, Tito Rojas performed there and I danced to their music till 2 am. I patronized The Copa with my family and friends to celebrate birthdays, promotions, etc. It really was a beautiful place to drink, dance, and love.
The original Copacabana was on EAST 60th between Fifth and Madison. My husband and I saw Sammy Davis Jr. there one New Year's Eve and got Gina Lollobrigida's autograph who was sitting next to us ringside. Those were exciting times...back in the '60's.
Great History Video.Never seen pictures of the original site.Have You ever been to the site of "Jack Dempseys Restaurant"?A former co-worker of mine told me years ago that he visited that place and the "Copa" after World War II.
When you went inside 14 east 60th street at the restaurant, did you need to obtain permission to walk downstairs where the original club was located? Can a tourist walk in without dining just to get a view? Enjoyed the video

yes I'm reporting for the original location on E. 60th St. Glad you were able to see Sammy. Not familiar with Gina Lollobrigida
