This video has been censored to delete the effect of the electric current when the switch was thrown. In the full version of the execution scene curtis' body jerks when the electricity hits and his head turns slowly to the right for the duration of the 30 second "hit". Not pleasant, admittedly, but closer to reality than the half second duration then suddenly he's dead effect shown here. What is the point of this kind of tampering?

Lepke's biography is much more interesting than this film. He was one of the heads of Murder, Inc. with 250 assassins, built his $50 million fortune by selling out labor unions, owned a posh nightclub in Manhattan where the rich and powerful hobnobbed, so many criminal charges for years that it is hard to believe his wife was naive to his undertakings, sold out by mafia heads, surrendered directly to J. Edgar Hoover in a cab with Walter Winchell present, Doey became Governor of NY and allowed Lepke's execution to be delayed 2 years because Lepke had dirt on an associate of President FDR (Doey was planning to run against him), Doey offered to commute his sentence to life if he spilled the beans, but Lepke chose death. And his last meal was chicken and shoestring potatoes, followed with cheesecake, not steak. Did they do any research on this fellow before making the movie?

Once upon a time in Tony's neighborhood.. In other words Crime without De Niro and Pacino but with a coco. Curtis vs Ben Gazarra Capone and Lemke an underexposed story.

Milton Berle gave a surprisingly good dramatic performance. Anjanette Comer was in one of her finest roles. Should have gone on to a more major acting career since she was in some great films with major stars -- but it never happened for her. From this wonderful role in Lepke, she went to the TV show Baretta.
Tony Curtis was great as usual though this kind of film was a step down from what he was famous for. He always made spectacles with major co-stars but not this one. His acting was better than the film itself. This was an actor who made Some Like It Hot, Spartacus, Tara Bulba, Defiant Ones, The Vikings, The Great Race, Don't Make Waves, The Last Tycoon. Then it slowly dropped off to direct to video films, voiceovers & films no one ever heard of. He should've been used more widely by major film directors -- he still had what it took & had a movie star presence. Instead, he settled for paydays.

This is quite a unique film. The shoot out scenes make it more so. This is the only movie I’ve seen a gangster get into a dodgem car that you get in pleasure parks with a Tommy gun and drive it towards the FBI while shooting. That and the cinema scene.
I have never seen anything like that before.
New movies could take some direction from this

I love the Jewish sarcastic humour. Joking and acting miserable at the same time is the funniest. The second half was much more serious.
