This video has been censored to delete the effect of the electric current when the switch was thrown. In the full version of the execution scene curtis' body jerks when the electricity hits and his head turns slowly to the right for the duration of the 30 second "hit". Not pleasant, admittedly, but closer to reality than the half second duration then suddenly he's dead effect shown here. What is the point of this kind of tampering?
@AK …and both were born in Manhattan only about 25 years apart. I've loved Tony Curtis since I was a kid seeing Spartacus in the 60s, but this could have been one of his easiest roles.

Good movie and a authentic portrayal of a flamboyant gangster of those times.Well acted by Tony Curtis and a very realistic supporting cast of gangsters,FBI and police.❤

I must give props to Tony Curtis, who can play ANY part no matter how diverse, n he made a great gangster, as good as George Raft n Edward G. Robinson n William Devane!!! Also a huge nod to Vic Tayback, who has a natural old time gangster persona n voice n I really think he would have been a great Al Capone!!! Loved the clothes n music n cars n hats n high heels n patent leather shoes n architecture n decor of the time period as well!!!
entertaining flick if somewhat inaccurate. Luciano was in prison himself when Lepke went on the lam. It also de-emphasizes the importance of Murder Inc. to the syndicate.
I have got the whole collection of the late Roger Moore and the late Tony Curtis in The Persuaders as I am dedicating this movie DVD to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
I can't believe this movie is on TH-cam,I had this on vhs as a little boy,I found this movie in some video store in a bin of movies, and wasn't able to find this film since I was little.
I have figured out why the Italian mobs ruled. The food was better. When have you never seen a great Italian restaurant or family gathering around food?
Once upon a time in Tony's neighborhood.. In other words Crime without De Niro and Pacino but with a coco. Curtis vs Ben Gazarra Capone and Lemke an underexposed story.
Good old fashioned movie, made by an Israeli in California, on a "crime doesn't pay" theme. Tony Curtis, and all others, make an impressive work of it. Amazing collection of vintage vehicles. Thanks S.M.
J.S. Johnson the actor did a great job as the hitman Mendy Weiss. The violin scene in the Palace Chop House and the beach scene were great. Googled him but there is very little info on him and no pics I could find. Anyone can shed some light?
Mendy Weiss was taller. Look up Mendy Weiss, Martin Goldstein, and Louis Capone on their way to Sing Sing Death House. Mendy is the dapper guy smiling at the camera holding a newspaper. Louis Copone is chubbier with darker skin and laughing. Unless you mean the actor "J.S. Johnson"
Lepke's biography is much more interesting than this film. He was one of the heads of Murder, Inc. with 250 assassins, built his $50 million fortune by selling out labor unions, owned a posh nightclub in Manhattan where the rich and powerful hobnobbed, so many criminal charges for years that it is hard to believe his wife was naive to his undertakings, sold out by mafia heads, surrendered directly to J. Edgar Hoover in a cab with Walter Winchell present, Doey became Governor of NY and allowed Lepke's execution to be delayed 2 years because Lepke had dirt on an associate of President FDR (Doey was planning to run against him), Doey offered to commute his sentence to life if he spilled the beans, but Lepke chose death. And his last meal was chicken and shoestring potatoes, followed with cheesecake, not steak. Did they do any research on this fellow before making the movie?
@@Lightningslick And Gurrah died in prison. SUpposedly they intercepted a kite from Shapiro to Lepke saying "I told you so" when Lepke ruled against Dutch Schultz killing Dewey.
They might not have done enough research to satisfy you but 99% of us just watched it for its entertainment value. You , however, obviously have too much time on your hands if you feel a need to spend it criticizing a feature film 😂
You seem to have a lot of time on your hands to comment on my comment that pointed out: facts are more interesting than fiction. What did your comment add to that conversation?

Finally a decent film with good dialogue, direction. & acting. Which beats the hell out of the garbage of most the films on TH-cam.

If you think Curtis is a great actor, you are a moron. He is a third rate actor, and a perfect example of just another pretty face.
Tony Curtis Had Range Could Play Anything😁💙
watch him in Captain Newman, MD with Gregory Peck - he was hysterical!!
Tony is the only reason I am watching this.
Loved him in Houdini and Some Like it Hot
Yes....both of those films.
True.
I saw Tony Curtis is Hyde Park with his 2 kids in the early 70s. how cool is that
This was playing at the drive-ins with Mean Streets when I grew up.
