Chris Thile and his mandolin are so missed, since Live From Here went off the air! And regards to his family! :)
OMG: we lost PHC.....cuz retirement 😢 and other unsavory "stuff" Then the new iteration "Live From Here" happened and we listeners fell in love with Chris Thile and the new format......then Covid😣😩😫🤬
Life From Here is SO MISSED!
These guys deserve more attention. What they do is pure magic
These people are so unbelievably good at their instruments. The mix was perfect (good call on sinking the vocals 😬), and the groove never quit for a minute. Tony would say "yeah"
I wasn't expecting this. That was great!
They do great Radiohead covers as well.
Look up Madison Cunningham who they work with. You'd love Molly Tuttle with Golden Highway.
And Larkin Poe is something else.
@@mythreindeer4590
Their take on Cars “Just What I Needed” worth a listen…AV Club video.
I'll take a dose of Chris Thile any way I can-Punch Brothers, solo, or (my personal favorite) Nickel Creek. Great band to feature for true music lovers!
I've got tickets to see these guys this summer. I'm more excited to see Sarah Jarosz 😁 opening!!
@@anneheart4679 That's a fantastic double bill.
@@anneheart4679 They are awesome in concert!
@@TheBigburcie I’ve got tix for the same tour and Watch House (formerly Mandolin Orange) is after Jarosz it’s a TRIPLE BILL! It should be illegal to have that much great music at one show.
I am a simple woman-I see Punch Brothers, I click. This was great!
I'll follow Chris into whatever iteration he conceives. This current group is perfection. Very happy to see them on Colbert!
Long live the Punch Brothers
The Punch Brothers are the shit and I’m so glad I got to see them live because they’re even more amazing live. It is about time the world knew about the Punch Brothers
This is the first time I’ve heard them and I have to agree…pretty damn enjoyable to listen to and I was left wanting more.
@@danielhostetler9493 check out their song “Familiarity”
@@danielhostetler9493 my buddy got me into them because they used to cover a lot of Beatles songs and they are amazing covers.
@@AntonShields their vocals are fantastic! They work really well as a group. I can totally see them doing a Beetles cover but I can tell their. Own music is pretty great.
@@ozziepowell5067 do you know who Jacob Collier is or heard his music? I just watched the the live performance of Familiarity that they did at the House of Blues Boston and those tones, dissonant chords and crazy changes in the timing has a very Collieresque character to it. I’m going to have to go listen to a full album. I think I’m a fan.
I miss Live From Here!
I miss LIVE FROM HERE so much!! But as always, yayyyyy punch brothers/nickel creek/Watkins family hour etc ❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness! I closed my eyes and I was listening to A Prairie Home Companion (LIVE From Here!) again. I miss Chris Thiele and his band and the show SO MUCH! But I DID get to see Garrison Keillor LIVE a couple weeks ago. ❤️
Such consummate musicians - thank you!
MORE CHRIS THILE. What we need is Vulfpeck and Thile playing "Dean Town" with Jon in the back just absolutely ripping the keys.
Oh god. Vulfpeck is amazing too. Amen. Why the world doesn't know about, or love these greats is a perpetual mystery to me. Btw. Bayonne -Spectralite ...meow me later
Love Colbert love from NZ
Never heard of these guys before, but this is awesome!
Their Tiny Desk performances on NPR are my favorite.
Check out anything Punch Brothers / Chris Thile / Nickel Creek
@@music_YT2023 thanks for letting me know those exist, I'll be checking them out!
Eldridge and Thile giving a masterclass in twin lead vocals. With the rest of the band trying to look stony faced through the most ripping solos. Ladies and Gentlemen, the best acoustic band on the planet.
Love the punch brothers their performance in 'another day another time' when they performed with Oscar Isaac is amazing also
Love their cover of TheCars ‘All that I Needed’
Oh gosh! I forgot about that one! One of my favorites too. Now I’m off to find it! Thanks!
Not many bands feature the mandolin especially when you've got a violin and banjo player. The tune was upbeat and lively and the stand-up base glued it all together.
Yeah not many bands contain all three of those instruments except for every bluegrass band lol
@@TheSlayingMantis I had said not many bands feature the mandolin, like he took the lead.
@@margaretpeabody243 He's the front man of the band and his literally a certified genius with a MacArthur Award to go with. He's been playing lead mandolin/being the front man in pretty much every project he's been associated with since he was a young little kid. He is the real fucking deal. Talent like none other.
@@therenaissanceblann thanks for the info.
Love this band so much.
So happy to see this performance!
I’ve seen them live. They are fantastic
Man that is unbelievable. You guys are amazing!
Saw them live in 2012 and it was the single best musical performance i have seen live.
To this day.
Genre notwithstanding
Loved them.
Had never heard of them.
Hope to hear more.
Awesome talent!
Love these guys. Chris!!!
Love these lads lots.
Great choice of musicians to showcase
This album is super magical. They covered song for a song a seminal Bluegrass album by guitarist Tony Rice. To cover an album track for track, I've never seen such an inventive and simple idea, to fully cover another album.
Punch Brothers, Where Art Thou?
No. Brother Where Art Thou went by Soggy Bottom Boys but actually the amazing Allison Krauss, Union Station thats worked alot with her and a couple other people.
@@skippetyskedaddle It's "O Brother..." and not "Brother..." and I was making a joke about their name and style of music, in fact. I was not saying they were in the film. ( O Brother has the same number of syllables as Punch Brothers, you see?)
There may be a lot wrong in America today, but if talent like these fine young gentlemen can grow there, You must be doing something right.
Check out the song "Flippen the Flip," from their album "Who's Feeling Young Now," if you get a chance. It's a jazzy bluegrass instrumental jam, and will blow your mind! Thanks to The Late Show for having the 'Brothers on again! 👏💯🤙
Good call!. Just watched a "Live from the vault", (Atlanta in 2015). They are just the most generous musicians I have ever seen, making a better composition together than anything they do seperately. And as you know, their live shows are somehow better than their studio work, which is pretty much unheard of!
Punch Brother rock! Gotta get Chris Thile back to jam with Stay Human.
love it!
That was a good show. I was there right about the 25th row or so.(they smoke so much pot there😂) An amazing number of shows they did those two years, and they all were put onto individual CDs so you could pick up the ones you attended.
While I appreciate the craftsmanship and love poured into this album, I would so much rather listen to their original music. I've seen them live three times and they are all incredible solo musicians individually, and when they play together they somehow achieve some kind of synergy that I wouldn't have thought possible.
Phillip, like they have said before, they can all "shred", but they would rather create something that is somehow better together than anything they individually play. The best live performance I have ever seen, 6 times now, and they somehow exceed my expectations which have only grown higher. I would recommend to "any music fan" and I don't even really care for bluegrass so much.
@@andrewmayes3115 I am decidedly not a "bluegrass fan" but I absolutely love this band.
NPR needs to bring back Live From Here hosted by Chris Thile
How can you not love Chris Thile
Sa-weeeet!!
please feature Sierra Ferral, truly one of the best performers today.
Chris Thile is golden.
Can't help but tap your foot at that.. :)
Well I’m pleased as punch😃
Chris Thile is a god among men
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, discovered a new cool band:))
Damn!!Swingen
Love Bluegrass.
Hardcore Punch Brothers fan, however, considering the fact that Punch Brothers have not garnered a foothold in mainstream media, they might have rather used one of their older, infectious tunes like "i blew it off", or "who's feeling young now?"
Similarly, appearances of nickel Creek on popular media shows are mishandled, and the least accessible of their music is performed. It goes way over a general crowd's head.
As a perfect example, why would you not perform the song called "Destination", when you want to turn people on to the band nickel Creek? The tiny desk performance, where sarah is almost in tears during that wonderful song, is a lodestone of music history.
Punch Brothers are pretty much the best thing out there. I just hate misappropriation of showcase. They have better, more accessible music for a general audience.
To elevate the general understanding of fine arts is paramount. People need bite sized pieces, though. Most people are not cabaret, studio musicians. They don't understand melodic theory, time, key, or measure. They just want a groove.
Punch Brothers really plays for other aspiring musicians. Or why would they work so hard?
As beautiful as this song is, the incredible virtuosity it displays is not for the squeamish, virgins of PB's sound.
I also recommend the version by Maria Muldaur.
I also like Sara Watkins version
🎶👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That's literally an all-ginger band? Impressive! Lol!
...Wait til he finds out about colored stage lights hahaha
@@NathanDowdyMedia Ouch! I deserve that. Lol!
🙂 🎶😊 🎶 🤗
TR would be proud
Which bowl these brothers been getting their punch from?
This music will surely sell a few derby hats and penny farthings. Sounds surprisingly stereo for a single mic, wax cylinder recording.
Noam's banjo solo was great, but why no vocals from him? It's time they put him front and center on vocals.
Bravo ..is that pokey laforge on 6 string guitar?
That’s his doppleganger, Chris Eldridge!
Fifteen!!! WOOO!
Anyone else hear the resemblance of The Beatles in that song ?
Nice old Jimmie Rodgers tune
why pre-taped?
Jimmie Rodgers would be proud
what’s up with the sound?
that sounds all over the place
I daresay there aren't half a million computers equalising every sound into "perfection". Music this raw is far more enjoyable because its clearly from the heart and for their enjoyment which makes us enjoy it. 😁
No, really. I have listened to and sang a lot of live bluegrass in my lifetime. These boys need to work on their vocal timing! But maybe they were just nervous of being on a network TV show. 🤷🏼♀️
I assure you they weren't nervous. They're just doing their thing
@@kathyt55 you’re kidding me, right? They’ve been a band for a decade plus. They’ve been on network shows multiple times. This is their style of music- and the level of talent and musicianship is off the charts.
Because it's not auto-tuned and quantized and sterilized into "perfection?"
Looks like one of those brothers is not like the others.
Sadly the music industry is based on greed. Shows like Colbert need to be more active in introducing bands like this, Larkin Poe, Molly Tuttle, Madison Cunningham, Dori Freeman, and many others. Please be more pro active Stephen.
The music industry is based on what sells. That’s why it’s an industry. Not sad, just realistic.
Sorry guys you need more full bango cause I don't even hear the spoken word
They need a better way to amplify there voices. Great band though!
🤢
Terrible, no harmony at all. None of them play in time with each other. I guess by the instruments, I expected A tight bluegrass band. What do they call this.?
Tuning up their instruments would he!P also.
They are more prog bluegrass/newgrass. Not traditional bluegrass. Thile is one of if not the greatest mandolin player to ever live and the punch brothers are incredible. Should check out more of their catalog.
Yeah this performance was “terrible”.
Ha! What a laugh.
