I took a double axel box trailer to Georgia. I live in Jacksonville, Fl. Right after the scales in Georgia i got pulled over. The DOT man ask me for my papers and I had everything in a clear pouch. He then asked me what I was carrying in the trailer. I told him, Sailboat Fuel. He then walked back to his truck and grabbed his ticket book. He told me that i was going to get a large ticket, because I did not have those warning signs on the trailer, I told him that I did not need them. He just kept running his mouth and finally asked me to open my back door slowly. I guess he was kinda scared that Sailboat Fuel would jump out and bite him. Once the door was down he looked into the trailer and saw my fuel. Yes, I got him. Hook, Line and Sinker. The trailer was filled with Air. Sailboat Fuel. He was kinda upset that he could not finish writting his ticket. But I got that DOT Inspector. I closed my door and locked it up and drove away. A empty trailer with a lock on it. Air = Sailboat fuel. Now I say that to all Inspectors. State Police, City Police, Small Town Police and DOT Inspectors. Some get mad and some laugh about it. Life sucks sometimes

Watching you using two trucks to get up the hill reminded me of coming back from my Reserve weekend driving from China Lake CA to Hawthorne NV one winter night about 2200. I was surprised when I turned off Highway 395 onto Highway 6, a few miles North of Bishop the road was not to well plowed. I was driving my 1985 GMC K3500 diesel. For safety I pulled the transfer case into 4 wheel high and eased off to about 40-45 mph. Shortly after crossing into Nevada on Highway 6 I crested the small hill before the start of the climb up Montgomery Pass. I could see four way flashers down in the valley really close to the start of the climb, which was the only other vehicle I had seen since Bishop. By now the snow had been packed down into a sheet of ice. As I approached the flashers I discovered an empty two trailer single drive hay hauler. I pulled around and stopped and talked to him. He said he broke traction and could not get it moving again. I told him I had a strap and I would be willing to see if I could get him going, but if we did we could not stop till the hotel/casino at the top. He agreed and thanked me for stopping to help. I hooked my strap to his front tow hook and my hitch. We got moving and went all the way to the top in first gear, I was too scared if I tried to shift I would loose traction. Just after the big left hand curve close to the top, two semi trucks were creeping down the hill slower than we were coming up. As the passed one of the truckers came on the CB and said something to the effect of, "that is the first time I ever seen a little truck pulling a big truck up a hill". The driver I was pulling came on and told them he was empty, a single screw and broke traction on the bottom of the hill. We got to the top and I pulled him deep into the lot with the other trucks who did not want to try going down the hill. He was really thankful I stopped to help him.

I agree on the full tank of fuel. It is rare for me to get below half. A full tank of fuel is cool and easier to pump. A low tank is hot fuel and hard on the in tank fuel pump.

One of those DOT cops in those Ford trucks got me a few months ago heading back home to Nevada with the gooseneck empty from Susanville. He then proceeded to waste his time to perform a level 1 exception on me for nothing. All he came back and said was I need a license plate light on the trailer. He seems bummed out when he realized I had my class A. Jokes on you buddy! Not quit wasting my time let me go lol

Me and my dad drove all the way from the driveway of the place we are staying in Reston, VA, to the driveway of the place we were going in Orlando, without ever coming to a complete stop. A little different than never touching the brakes, but it was a personal challenge. We made it all the way to the highway without fully stopping, because a had a bunch of perfectly timed lights. So we jokingly said, "at this rate, we'll get home without having to come to a stop," so then we began to take it serious and try it. It was pretty cool. We stopped intentionally 2 times to get fuel and go to the bathroom, but besides that, we never stopped. When we hit highway traffic and when we were off the highway in town, we never stopped.

I haul machines long distance for farmers and ranchers. I use a RAM 3500 with a Diamond C 44' goose-neck, Hutch suspension and electric over hydraulic disc brakes. When hauling over passes I sometimes have to stop on a grade to install chains or to check the load. I want to have a dash mounted switch that I can switch on and apply the brakes on the trailer. This would have a red light when activated. I've been stuck on a icy back road before when I lost traction and the whole mess truck and trailer were sliding backwards toward the edge with a nice 100 foot drop to the river. I'm here but I had only the truck parking brake to hold the combo.
What are your thoughts on a parking brake for trailers?

one thing i don't understand: why equipment manufacturers don't provide more easily accessible tie down points..... that new machine is awesome but why in the hell doesn't it have a couple of tie down points on the back so your chains don't have to touch the tracks or you end up having to crawl up under the machine to attach your chains.... some tractors i move around don't have a single tie down worth a crap, end up dragging chains up over the axles and such. it's not like its a car, it's a piece of work machinery that is expected to be transported often.

When someone gets so close to me that I can't see their bumper any more, I just ease up off the throttle a little (slowly enough that if they're paying attention, they can back off before hitting me) so that instead of 5 Mph over the limit, I'm now comfortably cruising at 7-10 Mph below the limit on the highway...
If they back off to a reasonably safe distance, I ease back up to Limit+5...if they get too close again, I ease back down to Limit-10...
It doesn't usually take more than 2 or 3 slow downs before they figure out I on;y slow down when they get too close...
I'm thinking of getting a "You are NOT a Hemorrhoid so get off my ASS" Bumper Sticker but I haven't found one I like yet...

I didn't see any strap or chain on the mulching head. Isn't that considered an attachment, like a loader bucket or a backhoe bucket?
Seems like that might draw attention to a nit-picking DOT guy.
