  • There are probably millions of photographs of Model A Fords that have been taken in the past 90 years. But, when was the first time someone saw a Model A on the street and snapped a photo of that car. What Model A was photographed for the very first time? By who? Why?
    We tracked those photographs down.
    It all started in late October 1927 outside of a popular fine dining establishment in Brighton, Michigan. The photos were taken by the editor of the small town newspaper; The Brighton Argus. Find out how a small town editor got the scoop of 1927 all by pure luck.
    Sure, there were Ford factory photos that were taken before these but they are the first publicly taken and published photos of the New Ford.
    The transcript of that original article is below;
    One of the most exciting and possibly the most interesting news of the past week occurred last Thursday shortly after the noon hour when it was found that one of the first new model Ford cars to come off the line at the River Rouge plant of the Ford Motor Co. was parked on the north side of the First National Bank. News of the appearance spread like wildfire, although many who were called by telephone by some of their friends, took the news as a joke and did not seize the opportunity to go and give the new car the "once over".
    When information came to the Argus office, the local reporter produced his camera and got some very good snapshots considering the fact that the car was parked in the shade of the bank building.
    It was found upon investigating that two officials of the Ford Motor Co. were eating lunch at the Hotel Lincoln and when they returned to the car were approached as to the time the car would be placed on the market, and would only say "in the near future." This no doubt means soon, as the public realizes that the Ford Motor Co. does not lose any time once they get a car off the line.
    The new Ford car that appeared in this city was of the tudor style, but vastly different from the former model T Tudor. This car was carrying a pea green body, completely equipped with 5 wire wheels, speedometer, oil pump, water pump, bumpers, four wheel brakes, standard gear shift, and bullet shaped headlights.
    The car has a wheel base which we believe to be at least six inches longer than the model T. It is generally understood that this is only one of many different models that the Ford Motor Co. will produce and one can truly say that the waiting public will receive the surprise of their lives when the car is finally released for sale through the local dealers. It is understood that a varied assortment of colors in all models will be available.
    Real tests of the new Ford have revealed an almost unlimited speed, superior cooling system, and a surprising lack of vibration.

    Are there any documented cars within the first 200 that have survived ? It would be great to hear from the owner regarding how they found/acquired their Very low production car. I really enjoy your TH-cam channel too! Thanks

      The answer to your question is...kinda. More amazing is that there are at least 2 known prototype Model A's that exist. These were built during the design process in the summer very early fall of 1927. Thanks for watching we appreciate the support!

      Model A #1 does exist! Henry Ford gave the 1928 Tudor to his good friend Thomas Edison, who then asked if he could have an open car. Ford took it back and rebodied it to be a phaeton. Model A #1 is currently on display at the Model A Ford Foundation Museum at the Gilmore in Hickory Corners Michigan.

    Interesting to see this Model A out and about one month before my first car (a Model A Tudor) was made in November, 1927, in Hamilton, Ontario. I just ordered a Bentley, but even that can never replace that first car of mine and what it still means to me.

      @@AModelA I had two friends with Model A's. They were quite common well into the 1960s. Wards still had a separate catalogue with everything from engines to fenders.

    The Lincoln Hotel makes perfect sense as the Model "A" was a "baby Lincoln".

      We hope to one day do a video on those first few vehicles. There's a lot of myth and folklore out there about them.

      @@AModelA Undoubtedly! I know of very basic things like Model T light lenses used in early A's, but the actual list would have to be long.
